"Becoming the strongest woman in the world!" Chun-li Match-up Thread

I know ex Barcelona eats focus attack. But the point remains, Vega is taking a risk with using his specials to get in on you from full screen. If the risk doesnt pay off, then chun li is in, and thats the worst spot for vega, because he can lose the round really quickly. A lot of times, I get in by turtling and testing the patience of the other person.

Against Vega, you should only play footsies if you are godlike in it. He has some nasty frame traps which will eat up all of your pokes. And he can easily whiff punish you with crouching strong into combo. I noticed that a couple of fireballs can drasticly change this match. Vega will consider his meter spending and you can move much more freely. You should minimize your button pressings and only focus on whiff punishing and pressure Vega on wakeup. Standing close roundhouse is a good move against him, especialy when he doesn’t have meter. And try to predict his backflips.

But what i really dislike in this match is the fact that Vega is moving as fast as Chun  He can walk out from setups and tick throws and it makes harder to walk up on him

I found cr.mk works very well against Rufus’s and twins’ dive kicks but I’ve never seen any note about it.

What kind of spacing are you using? All the times I’ve used cr.mk against dive kick I’ve lost where the dive kick angles towards the body. C.mk really only works if dive kicks are angled towards her feet in which case the dive kicks are poorly spaced.

I always found standing light punch to be a great way to knock them out of divekicks.

Standing Jabs are decent to keep them from spamming.

Also, Lk Lightnings Legs will kick them all they way across the screen in the air if you want to take that gamble/need space. It works from up close, however it’s somewhat of a gamble because they won’t always be in your hit region coming down due to the nature of LL and the nature of divekicks. The space is well worth it though.

I haven’t tried cl. HK vs. the twins divekicks yet but I know it can neutralize Viper’s BKs and an over-zealous Rufus’s dive kick.

Against the Twins the only reliable AA I can seem to use is St. HP and Nj. HK (though this one makes me start to jump a lot especially against Yun)
with Rufus I can also use St. MK, which is my prefered AA for any situation, its sooooo nice - quick and auto corrects depending on their distance. Which you can say the same for HP, I’m just more successful with MK

Sorry, I meant cr.mp

S.lp~lp + hp is relatively good against Yun’s dive kicks from about mid to 3/4 screen. At about the peak of the their fwd jump, s.lp counters instant dive kicks, but if they delay their dive kicks, s.hp can tag it. This can have varying degrees of success based on timing, but it’s worked for me about 80% of the time. I have missed the odd counter and allowed Yun to get in, but Yun’s just that kind of character in AE - try it enough and you’ll eventually get in.

Fallingdown doing a matchup vid series. Up so far are Sakura/Blanka.

vs Sakura

vs Blanka

I’ve watched his vids before on character match ups. although I dont’ really like his approaches sometimes I ‘DO’ like how he breaks down the different play styles an individual may use with a certain character. I think it helps to see that sort of input so if you face a rush down Guile instead of the typical walk backwards all day BS you’ll have an idea of what to do.

Thanks all for the Vega(Claw) advice…Bahn I have some vids i’ll have to upload and post so you can see them.

How do you guys go about chun vs chun match. I’m kinda having a hard time fighting my own kind

I feel like this is a really fast paced matchup, and often devolves into randomness, I feel like Chun has difficulty controlling space against another Chun, I haven’t really checked this in training mode, but I think f.hk isn’t great vs chuns other pokes(I’ve certainly never had much luck with it in the mirror), and chun’s fireballs are too weak to hold an aggressive Chun in check unless they’ve got almost no health, which means you’re left with your more aggressive footsie tools, fr.hp,cr.hk and fr.mp (and cr.mp, I guess). This means Chun can dash arnound like a crazy fuck, messing up the other Chun’s spacing, which is incredibly important for such a footsie orientated character.

Things to practice in training mode
1)anti-airing jump in hk with far mk.
2)punishing hasan shu on reaction with focus dash forward B&B (No I can’t do this).
3)7 frame safe jumps off of as many knockdowns as possible.

That’s my limited understanding. I’m not great at it, although that’s partly because my experience playing Chun’s who aren’t much better than me (Meeks/Bluehouse Jeff) is pretty small.

**Spam st.fp, st.mp, and focus. Any order really, and as often as you like. **

Haha, no but for real though, decent tips would be to never jump unless its a safe jump, and try to bait out something you can focus and punish. Honestly, it just comes down to a footsie battle. Even when you score a knockdown, often Chun’s great backdash gets her out of trouble or at least allows her to get tagged in an airborne state preventing major damage… You really have to kick your brain in gear and actively think about every button press.

Use U1 as well. Shuts down the opponents fireball game and forces them to come at you in another way apart from walking when you throw your own… unless they have U1 as well.

I haven’t been around for a while, but will be competing in Wednesday Night Fights tonight at Super Arcade. We’ll see how that goes. I’m hella rusty lol.

What time will that be again?

I think it’s at 8:00 PM Pacific, so it might be a little late to watch on stream depending on where you are. Honestly the chances of me making stream are pretty slim I think, I really haven’t played much lately.

Good luck SnakeAes.

Good luck man :woot:

As mentioned above, most of it has to do with footsies and staying close. All about poking and baiting it seems. Not the best play from me, but I posted a few Chun mirrors in the video thread. They could give you an idea on how the matchup is played.
