"Becoming the strongest woman in the world!" Chun-li Match-up Thread

anti-airing him with normals is definitely better of course, but there’s that particular distance, too close for st.hp, where I have problems AAing him, so for now I have to use my meter. And I’ve never been very good at using st.mk when I’m under pressure :\

Just really quick…

Be weary of neutral jumping Roundhouse against a knocked down Yun. I recently played a match where instead of upkicks, he would do standing MP and Chun will eat it with no trade. Also, standing MP seems to beat out Chun’s cr. Rh. Got hit by that a lot…

I have more trouble dealing with Yun’s dive kicks instead of Yang’s. It’s worse than Rufus for me.

Have you thought about using n. fp instead?

Haven’t tried that yet. Will do next time I play.

If you can sense when a Yun player is about to use his DK (Dragon Kick, lol) on his wakeup, if you can sense it on his wakeup and you are standing nearly in front of him, just block. once he crosses over to the other side, you can punish him with a few options:

  • walk over and sweep
  • dash over and cr. lk xx EX Legs
  • dash over and throw
  • dash over and Kikosho
-dash over and cr. lk xx EX Legs --> kikosho

so I usually tend to let these Yun players believe that their upkick move is invincible so that I can punish them hard every time

Yeah, almost any character can punish a blocked DP from Yun. The only time Chun has trouble punishing him is when it whiffs (and doesn’t auto-correct) while she tries to cross him up on knockdown with j.lk.

As far as anti-airs goes for me, I use st.fp and sweep if the Yun tries to get in with divekicks at midrange. At close range, when they try to pressure me with divekick spam, I either use d/f lk or nj.RH in reaction to his jumps. Anti-airing Yun is very situational to the distances, but I find those to work best for me.

Whilst this is somewhat helpful, albeit, obvious to most players, I don’t think that this is the most worrying part of the matchup. This can be said pretty much about any character that has a reversal, not just Yun. I think Samma’s meaty setups are much better to use to be honest.

Anybody got any info on the bison AE matchup? Thought it be a little easier, but I am finding difficulties.

I’m having some issues with ryu matchup. Mostly having issues with safe wakeup pressure and air-to-air and anti-air. Additionally my friend can totally read when I’m about to play footsies and I get SRKed at range for my efforts.

Questions:

  1. Some safe meaty/safe jump setups? (psuedo-safejumps will work)
  2. Anti-air/Air-to-air to beat out j.mp, j.mk, j.hk?

@ssj

Some Bison talk in this page. http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/the-fellowship-of-the-thigh-general-chun-li-discussion.59980/page-185

Personally I recommend this one since I have a lot of experience in the AE Bison matchup (I play casuals with Victheslik all the time, one of the best Bisons on the West Coast):

Have any of you guys been able to punish ERyu’s or Oni’s fireballs with u1? Every time I’ve tried it, they block

Yes.

It must be really tight because I did it just when the fireball left his hand and it still got blocked.

On a side note, if anyone wants to play on XBL my GT is Kirbed

You’re probably responding to the projectile being released too late. All versions can be punished. Oni’s jab fb has recovery – research the wiki to get the actual number (sorry, I am too lazy to look right now).

messing with safe jumps against yun

f.throw, dash, df.HK

this setup stuff all reversal srk but loses to delayed/autocorrected srk (kind of tight tho), if they use focus chun lands behind so its safe, if they block u are in adv. use to frame traps and what not. Dash its the only way to escape, but its very confusing to do it, its easy to input a backdash and get punished by chun /m2c

ps. also this work against guile btw
going back with more later

I am usually too afraid to mix up from DF HK the first time against a DP char. Been burned too many times by shotos who think they can get away with blocking it and then using a reversal. =[ Usually, I’ll just use it to escape the corner and backdash after they block it. If they don’t uppercut, they probably will be even less likely to uppercut the second time after noticing how paranoid I am haha

In mirrors, I’ll sometimes focus absorb it and dash out. I think that’s a smart way out for charge chars one time, tho absorbing so much white damage against Chun worries me.

Focus dashing was my way of getting out of Ibuki’s vortex, too, until I saw ClakeyD vs Sako mirror match. >_< I need to double check if Chun can truly get away with that…

Hi. I have problems against the new makoto. She is so fast it’s like i cant do anything her ex hayate punish every whiff, i even ate J.hp out of my whiffed st.mp. Her dash is too good. I cant react to anything. Any tips?

Hello, guys! Chun can panish Cammy’s dive kick with LK-hazanshu. It’s weird maybe, but it works sometime. It needs strict timing and specific range. Does it works against Yun’s/Yang’s divekick?

You can just jab those two out of their divekicks. The hitbox on their divekicks is smaller than your jab.
