Um, no. I never said there were tons of hard characters. I never said there was tons of originality in the game, either. There are almost no games brought out these days that are completely original or even mostly original. I just think GG is way more fun than most of the junk on the market today, is all. You’re kinda goin’ off in your own direction with this.

The games not really even deep, all it is a trap game you trap me then I trap you. Not damn he tricked me which is the case in other games. Unless your skills jus on a whole other level. I mean I’ve never seen footage of you play so I don’t really know so, I am kinda goin on my own direction becuase everybody that plays GG on SRK calls other games on the market to today junk so I’m left stuck wondering well whats so hot about GG, I can’t see apparently, so maybe you can tell me. Thats all I’m sayin.
I didn’t imply anything about character difficulty or originality. At all.
The funny thing is that Slayer isn’t even a trap character, yet you’re calling it a trap game. Most of the characters in the game aren’t even that good at trapping. Who can actually get a good corner trap going? Sol, Millia, Eddie, Jam, Venom, Dizzy, I-no? That’s a little over a quarter of the cast. A lot of characters rely on wakes, but wakes are important to a lot of characters in a lot of games. It’s just that mixups are really flashy and rewarding in GG, so you’re sometimes too busy staring at a mixup or pattern in order to actually figure out a way around it. There are lots of nuances in the game’s system that let you get around these “traps”. It just takes practice and experience. Backdashes are mostly invincible, so you can get out of a lot of offensive patterns with it, and some characters can really abuse it (like Potemkin: short backdash to dodge, then grab your ass when you’re stuck there). You can use Instant Block to reduce blockstun to help you get out of the more common blockstun traps, or Faultless Defense to cause pushout, which will ruin some offensive patterns. You should also use throws a lot. Throws are basically instantaneous (except for most command grabs), and most of the “reversal” moves in the game don’t have throw invincibility, so characters who try to outprioritize you on stuff with supers and the like can get thrown a lot. So against a sloppy offense or against a lot of grab mixups, you can just counter throw and that usually gets you the positional advantage.
Spacing and mindgames are just as important in GG as they are in other games. Let’s use the backdash w/Potemkin as an example. Let’s say I’m playing Sol and I knock Potemkin down, then do a dash jump to a meaty j.Slash in order to set up a mixup game when I land. But instead of blocking the Slash, Potemkin reverses with a backdash on wakeup (since backdashes are invulnerable, you can use them as reversals assuming you do them with the right timing). Now my Slash whiffs and he gets to P.Buster me for free when I land, which is a lot of damage. So let’s say next time, I dash jump at him, but instead of going for the meaty, I hesitate and then airdash at him as he gets up. If he went for the backdash, I can tag him as his evade ends (backdash vulnerable at the very end) with an airdash attack, then combo him for free. In the same vein, if he just sits there when I airdash, he has plenty of time to anti-air me, so it’s a calculated risk based on guessing what your opponent is going to do. And that’s just a minor example.
But anyway, I’m not gonna sit here and blabber about the game. Not like it’ll make much of a difference if I say anything.

Hmm … I’d like to play Beast of Fire next time I’m in the area. I’ve heard about him from Graywer, though, sadly, Graywer doesn’t seem to be keeping up with the times in GGXX. I’d like to have a fun match when that time comes.
Hey, s’been awhile since I’ve posted yet again. Browsed through a few of the previous pages.
From what it seems like, Mad Tea Party’s greatly exceeded my current abilities in fighting games thanks to his wonderful Evolution competition in UCLA. I’ve been playing up Third Strike quite a bit so that’ll probably be the only game I can hold my ground in.
Isuka turned me off slightly because Johnny couldn’t Gatling Combo from his crouching Slash into any other regular move. Tried to get into it more by using other characters, but that quickly took a backseat once MGS3, Growlanser Generations, and SF Anniversary Collection came along.
XX may still have a chance…just maybe.
A friend of mine, Bison812, gave me the opportunity to view some old Evolution matches…amazing stuff. I’ll probably borrow B2 and up DVD’s from him too. He’s got some nice plans as far as tournaments go. I’d like to attend one or even participate sometime once I can practice up on human opponents. I’ll be in Fayetteville hopefully during the Christmas weekend. Work has got me down for mad hours but that’s simply interpreted as more quarters for me to spend.
