I only kick players with one bar, and that’s if the bar was red when they entered the room. I always send Australian/East Asian players a snide message though, because regardless of their PC specs that match will never be lag free, especially since I live on the east coast. They have plenty of competition (just search a Ranked/Player match if you’re in the USA and you’ll find plenty of red/orange connections) so it should never happen in the first place. I don’t seek out players in Thailand to play, show me the same respect!
I do eventually “dodge” players who counterpick me consistently during Player Matches (I mean go through the list of Dictator’s bad match ups each match). I’ll deal with about three or four counterpicks, but that’s pretty much my threshold. Like others have said, if it’s a Championship Match I can deal with it, but I play Player Matches for fun. Unless they are actually maining the character, I don’t want to sweat bullets dealing with Guile’s antics & or Balrog’s jab-jab-jab games. : p
I ran into more than a few of those, and it was always funny as hell. They play like complete wastes of time and then they’re like “OMG IM GUNNA REPURT U TO SRK!!@!#!!”. It was always hilarious since they genuinely considered it to be a threat.
I use to play 2-bar matches againist ppl who join my game repeatedly. I always lose those matches cause the button lag is ridiculous. After receiving gloatmail from a lousy 2-bar Ryu player, I decided never to play a two bar match again.
Most of the time the lag in my matches are pretty consistent with what the connection status shows. If the guy has 2 bars or less, they always lag like hell and there will be the odd guy who’ll have 5 bars but still lag.
I always refuse matches where my opponents have less than a 3-bar connection. I’ve had people send me messages asking why, and I usually tell them that it’s nothing personal. I want a good connection as much as they do I’m sure, and I doubt they’d want to play a laggy match either, unless that’s a strategy of some sort that they use to win.
Peeps who ‘SKILL FILTER’ are those that make the community for this game so scrubby on-line and the grind and Ryu-centric displeasure it indeed is.
I accept any and all challengers, just like the arcade ('cept El Joke-o*) and always complete the bout… irrespective of lag. :nunchuck:
I do DC all games, win or lose however (once completed). But we all have our little idiosyncrasies, don’t we.
I look forward to getting my ass wooped online against great players because that usually means I can actually play the character I choose and make an effort to improve on mix-ups and match-up strategies, rather than playing someone who is mediocre, able to random out big damage or transcend all intelligent strategy I may have due to the online shoto-factor*/absolute unpredictability (in a stupid way)/me expecting them to have learnt not to do something and then never bother going for that mix-up or reset again (which I am typically wrong about; I give XBL players too much credit. Truly, you’re almost all mouth-breathers). I try to play shit players like they don’t suck and like they require mix-ups and fancy resets and such when in reality that’s not going to work on them… they play at too low a level to play against effectively using anything but the lamest of tactics and boring bait->BnB over and over again. Not fun. So, if I encounter a player such as this, I may kick them, yes. Usually I try to get a couple ass whoopings of my own in there prior to that just to demonstrate that the wins they got should not hold any significance in their half-developed minds.
Also: if I encounter the umpteenth Ryu, whom no doubt is playing like a carbon-copy of his thousand fellow brethren (albeit not poorly, a lot of online Ryus are decent/getting there/really good) then they also may get kicked. I don’t get why no one likes to choose an unusual main just for variety’s sake. I steer away from Ryu/Sagat/Ken like the they’re the plague usually, particulary Ryu, just because I already see their boring asses way too much. So you play a decent Ryu: whoop dee doo, mate. It’s probably the least individuating thing you could do in SFIV; it’s like having to fight an army of fucking Borg. I half expect every Ryu I play online to start chanting “ASSIMILATE. ASSIMILATE” when I fight them with Seth, Abel, Dan, Fuerte, Gouken, etc.
*I consider all shotos to immediately jump up 1 point in a match-up online just because the slightest bit of lag can be the difference between a completed combo and being SRK mashed out of it (potentially into Ultra), not being able to punish a sloppy blockstring or the fact that landing a Sagat/Ryu Ultra is done with such forgiving timing. I think a lot of Ryu/Sagat hate stems from that; online they suddenly seem invincible because lag is like a Power Up for characters like them.
i dont disconnect on people because they are better than me anymore, i used to though.
Last time i disconnected was against a dictator, he would sit in corner and teleport to other side when i got near, so i dc. it was three matches and i cbf waiting so fucking long
Out of interest, how do people rage-quit? i guess you pull the connetion lead out? what if you’re wireless?
What s the point, just see the match through, surely thats quicker.
They re are a lot idiots online though - i went into a lobby and the guy was picking Dan. I beat him twice, then he beat me once, back in the lobby he put the laugh face on and just sat there, as if I m gonna get really annoyed or something? I felt like sending him a message telling him exactly what he was - but what s the point? I just went on to the next game. Normally I ll find someone to have a few matches with, tell them ‘ggs’ at the end and it s all good!
BTW i see the term scrubs used a lot now …
I remember a couple years ago (Maybe like 7)
Someone called me a scrubs because i was complaining about Ken in third strike. That all i was fighting was Ken .
Than he called me a scrubs.
Than i asked what’s a scrubs?
Than he simply asnwered me …
THe day you see a player picking Ken in the character selection screen and a big fucking grin appears in your face. You will know.
But sadly i think scrubs today mean more noob or newbies.
A scrubs it’s someone that make their own rule .it’s not someone that spam shoryuken.it’s someone that can’t beat shoryuken because i nthe rule … It’s CHEAP…
I find when I play online and finally run into a good Ken I go “HOLY CRAP A GOOD KEN!” I almost always play like crap the first round because I am so conditioned to seeing a scrub.
the only time I disconnected was when my girlfriend turned my game off on me cause she was telling me to get ready to go. I was getting my ass beat. I lived in fear of being on rage-quitters.com for days till I saw that it had not been posted. I got so mad a my girlfriend I made her write an apology to the guy I was fighting.
My connection is pretty horrible, so sometimes I’ll get randomly disconnected. I also find a lot of the time I can’t even join a game for no good reason.
Quite a few times I got randomly disconnected when I was in a losing match. At first I sent messages apologising, but it happens so often I can’t be bothered anymore unless the other guy complains.
Other times, my baby son jumps on the controller, unplugs it or hits the turbo button so my direction inputs get totally screwed. Basically the other guy gets a free win, but it probably looks like a rage quit from their point of view.
I’ve never disconnected on purpose for any reason. On the one occasion I was so furious I didn’t want to play anymore(interferance from rampaging babies), I waited for my opponent to win before shutting the console off.
i find people very rarely play as the character that is one their icon, thats why i dont tend to use the character icons much at all.
one thing i love though is when the opp moves their icon around in champ mode to try and trick me into thinking they wont just choose ryu.
but on topic. iv never DCd any of my matches, although i have been tempted to just throw the match due to extremely laggy games. esp if you dont play as a ‘lag freindly’ character (abel and sim for me). but when i play people who seem to use the lag to their advantage spamming DPS all the time i ‘basic’ mode. meaning ill pretty much throw you to death if i can and not try anything fancy or that doesnt come out instantly. more often than not im actually successful winning them as well if i just focus and not let frustration get the better of me
Oddly enough, I avoid 4 and 5 bars like the plague (as an example, 4-bar connection, someone initiated Ken’s ultra, I practically saw it frame for frame with all the kicks at the beginning in slow mo, it was THAT bad) . I seem to get crap tonnes of lag on them, yet I touch a 3 bar and it’s perfectly fine, no lag whatsoever.
I think the most amusing one I had was a Zangief player who did nothing but lariets, they ate a bloody high claw to the face for game, then rage quit against me and sent me a PM going “All you f**king Vega players are the same!” My reaction staring blankly at the screen going “Uh…what?”
I admit, I have rage quit on people (Who hasn’t?) generally on said above problem with there being a 4 bar connection suddenly getting VERY laggy after I hit them around a few times and not being able to initiate anything yet all of their hits suspiciously land fine. Other rage quit I had, which I don’t think I’ll ever forget is a Sakura player, who played to the lag, got me in a corner by throwing and upon wakeup, threw me constantly because I couldn’t do anything back, even trying to throw escape just didn’t work.
