Storage medium size (which allows for larger games, better graphics, etc) and display capabilities (1080p, etc)… how there are games on the ps3 that cannot be done on xbox (Uncharted 2, KZ2) without sacrificing something (graphics, length, etc), but not vice versa.
Also…how is the programming done when both system versions are being made at the same time? Do they start coding on xbox, then port that code to ps3, go back to xbox, then port THAT code (which would explain how/why in dual system releases, the ps3 seems to get the short end of the stick about 30% of the time: they’re just porting on the fly, based on what the xbox can do and limiting the ps3 version to that, instead of taking advantage of each system’s strengths, and if the ps3 version can’t quite do something the same way, sorry. I bet they’re all “even if it’s a better or more efficient way, we’d have to modify/tweak the code too much, so we’d rather just go ahead and port the code as-is, resulting in less lost time. We’d prefer there to be no glitches when we port the code, but if there are…oh well. We’ll make sure it’s still playable, at least, but we e\really can’t take too much time on it”) and keep leap-frogging like that, or do they do the same thing for both systems at the same time, but separately?
Dude, I’m a MAN. Besides, “Devils never cry”!! uh…I just got something in my eye. Dusty up in this place. Nobody’s been cleaning since Akumachan stopped posting. walks off
That’s my fault. Ever since I got her turned onto HALO, her priorities are all out of whack now.
At least she’s still making some fucking bomb-ass meals.
Bayonetta isn’t going to be so epic that I need to buy a PS3 so for me so I’m sticking to the 360 version and I’m sure I’ll have just as much fun with it.
i will give you the storage space, but disc access is pretty slow. i would also argue that several games don’t use more than a dual layer dvd worth of info. back in the ps2 days rockstar said they couldn’t fit anything else without a new type of disc. they figured it out.
i think it’s pretty difficult to say if the xbox could or couldn’t do the games mentioned. again storage capacity could be an issue, but this is a lot harder than past generations to decide.
from a dev standpoint both consoles have their up’s and down’s. one is not universally better than the other
Yes, and the reason for that is “parity.” The two versions have to be “the same,” so the BD one gets gimped to DVD6.8 (360’s dual-layer DVD is only 6.8GB due to overhead) space limitations. Arkham Asylum PS3 suffers heavily for this; its cutscenes look terrible because of all the compression.
Not from what I’ve seen (I’ve seen both versions). There’s color banding and compression artifacts all over the damn place. I mean, yeah, I’ll accept that for a DVDthat’s all that technology is capable of anyway. But on Blu-ray? That’s bullshit.
I don’t know what’s on there, but it takes up a grip of space. I imagine it’s system software and DRM and stuff. I know for the Wii, the HOME Menu and all the “system” stuff is right on the disc (if you have a Wii, try opening the HOME Menu in Twilight Princess and then try it again on a more recent game. The sound is different, and that’s because all that shit is on the disc; this is one reason the Wii can’t ever be updated in terms of in-game system functionality).
