Bay Area Stick Builders/Modders

I’ve actually cut boxes out, but the top panels are angled. So what I need to be able to do is to cut a straight, 13 inch cut at 6 degrees on BOTH the Plexi and MDF top.

Maybe I can clamp a straight edge… you still think the circular saw will still do the trick for the plexi?

this man is serious!!!

You can still do a straight cut at an angle. Just use the straight edge as an acting fence and a couple of pieces of scrap wood to guide it.

Acrylic, plexi-glass, plastic will melt pretty fast with most blades. Also, you also risk cracking it. Hit up a Tap Plastics near you, should be one in San Mateo and San Jose. They can pretty much do anything with your projects.

Thanks bro. I’m going to call TAP and ask if they can cut what I need. The last thing I want is cracked plexi.

If not… my last resort is just to delve into it and try myself.

Plexi is really cheap but if you ask tap plastics to cut it for you they’ll charge you an arm and a leg. Some absurd amount. Better just to buy a few pieces and experiment.

A circular saw cuts plexi like nothing with smooth edges. Make sure the saw is spinning fast before it hits the plexi/polycarb.

I’ve had better luck with cuts 1/4" and thinner with regular wood cutting tools like router/jigsaw/circular saw… 1/2’’ made it okay but anything bigger, I had a rough time. They make bits specficially made for acrylic.

Hi I’m a lurker but I stumbled this thread by chance. It’s a funny coincidence because I was just talking to my friends about modding sticks as a little side project.

I’m a graphic designer/artist, working in Dublin doing design as a day job, and I’m thinking of modding my own stick as a fun little personal side project for myself. I have absolutely no experience with this, but figured what the hey this will be a fun one regardless. I don’t know if I can help anyone at this point, but I figure I’d plant the seeds of future modding relationship while I found this thread.

I don’t have much work up, my portfolio site is mostly corporate stuff, but you can check it out http://jockystar.com.

As the fighting game scene expands, I hope the modding scene gets big as well.

Thanks albert and vestax. I’m gonna go for it after all the GDC craziness this week.

Jstarplus: Crazy coincidence indeed. I do graphics… but the fucking economy has this brother searching for jobs and hustling to get by. Your website and illustrations are cool. You’ll have a fun time doing your stick art… however, your journal page is down :looney:

i can use a soldering iron… hit me up if you want me to mod something.

Please Pm Me If You Can Help.
FYI- Will Pay

I’m building a couple of sticks myself. I had an old hanaho stick, and demolished it for parts to build individual sticks. I’m doing this more out of curiosity and challenge. Hopefully, you’ll get to see some finished works soon!

Anybody willing to help me fix a problem I have that involves fixing a Wii HFS and knows how to do trace soldering? Willing to pay, I’m from Pittsburg in the east bay between Concord & Antioch.

Here’s my thread with the info:

Have any of you guys modded a Fightstick SE yet?

Hm, Do any of you do light up buttons? Or maybe, Know how to mod a T5 stick and make it wireless for the ps3? If so, lemme know by replying to this post. Looking into getting one done, I cant ship, Since for some reason shipping out of stockton is retardedly expensive, But if you go to mgl/svgl I can drop it off for you.

i’m just about ready to mod my SE, once all my parts come in. adding a jlf, seimitsu buttons, and replacing the art. what do YOU plan on doing to yours?

Hey folks, who wants to help me dual-mod one of my Xbox 360 Tournament Edition sticks for PlayStation 3?

I’d like to order a Cthuhlu and slap that in there, but I’m pretty sure I don’t know the first thing about how to do it.

^
Someone help dat man! He’s good people, but I’m booked for the next few weeks. Gotta work to eat!

Some reference for the job.

Hi guys, I’d like to mod my T5 hori with sanwa parts. I got my hands on a sanwa jlf, but did not get a harness for the stick unfortunately (specifically the 5-prong socket that goes on the 5 pins on the stick). Is there a substitute for the harness socket I can get at an electronics store, and if so, what’s the name of it? My thinking is if I could just get the harness socket, I could attach the socket to the stock wires from the hori and avoid having to desolder the existing joystick wires and solder in new wires. Thanks.

I’m down in Gilroy and I just started actually building sticks out of MDF, but I used to go to school for robotics until some financial stuff came up. I can do pretty much anything that’s floating around tech-talk. I have another week before I can attempt to do some RJ-45 modding, mostly cause I don’t have hands on MC Cthulu yet. If anyone needs help in the south bay send me a message.

i can do dual mods, parts swap, hack pcbs, whatever.
