Battle Points are stupid!

Someones a little salty. Calm down.

PP actually displays how good a player is while BP doesn’t really matter and doesn’t show how good someone really is.BP is actually quite easy to gain, but trying to get 4k+ PP is really difficult in SSF4 AE.

PP is actually easier to obtain than BP. The only thing is that you’ll only lose 50BP at the most compared to 120PP at the most. What makes it hard to obtain the PP is to keep winning.

I’ve been crowing about the inclusion of this feature since vanilla

What they need to do is give a feature that allows you to see your opponent’s PP and highest ranked character BP total. Then I wouldn’t need to face a person with 3000PP and 15000BP with my best character’s worst matchup when I placed my filter at “same skill”.

options > screen config > hide pp/bp

hi

If you play enough you get to know what different people play who are high ranked.

It’s like playing offline, eventually you get to know who everyone uses and you can adapt and preemptively switch characters.

It only hides PP/BP in-battle. Doesn’t stop it from showing points at the loading screen and after the match.

I miss the champion mode on streetfigher 4 vanilla. I hope the being it back

look away, then mash

I highly doubt that I could predict exactly which character someone is going to choose and there’s no way that I can predict if they are either a total scrub or borderline EVO worthy. If there is I like to learn it.

This thread is full of TROLOLOLOL!!!

You can’t predict what character someone will play offline either, but if you’ve played someone before it’s not hard to make a mental note of what character they play.

Treat it as blind pick if you are so worried about it. Try to overcome your bad matchup.

i dont want to have to look away every time. i’ll be too tempted to look after every loss

im actually thinking about covering that portrion of my tv. assuming that it dosent hide anything i need for matches

One thing I’ve always found odd about Capcom’s ranking system for SSF4 is the fact that you lost more BP for losing to a B+ ranked player than you will for losing to someone with 0 BP after B rank. That seems a bit messed up.

I they REALLY wanted to make it a true “Arcade Edition” they’d have imported the arcade point system. I mean, it being a “straight AE port” was the excuse they gave for there not being trials for the new characters/updated AE trials, so why not go all out and make the ranks the same too?

my solution was to just stop losing.

Also I do the math the second I see the PP and know how many points are on the line each game, so I know whats up.

lol. the view must be amazing from up there on your high horse. haha

but really, im not really having issues with losing, its just that i dont like the mindset i get in to when points are on the line. instead of playing to improve specific aspects like i should, i start playing to win PPs

also, i tend to place too much value into those numbers before the match. i wind up either showing too much respect or not enough based on how high the PP is

EDIT-no homo for my whole post

I have wanted this for so long, even though I try not to worry about points I can’t 100% ignore it. I’d rather not know the points and judge people purely on the way they play.

Problem I have is with PP is simple… its not neded.
I dont care if someone can use multiple characters, most of the players with very high PP only use their mains in ranked so its null and void, they are surely going to be in the high 10’s or even 15’s with thier mains.

Why is the extra PP class needed? I care for neither but If I could choose it would be BP as its more a representation of how good a player is with their character of choice / character Im fighting.

EDIT: I actually have recieved hatemail over PP and BP before lol. **Its almost on topic… **

I tend to try out characters in ranked as I think its easier to sit in arcade mode and have fight request on to get some quick matches than looking for endless games. I was somewhere around the 1000pp mark after another string of losses playing as characters other than Mak/Fei/Guy. I was after playing two ranked matches as my rusty Fei against a spanish Ryu player and lost both, but both were close.

He joined again so I decided to play a game as Guy and completely trashed the poor dude. It was obvious he didnt know the matchup. I was expecting him to join again or maybe get an invite to endless, but instead got a message along the lines of:

“BP shark, cheating with low PP to farm points from good players, shame on you”.
I honestly thought this was funny as hell, but I didnt reply. Im not even high in BP ffs

Why do you think BP is better? Anyone can faceroll their way to high bp with a character, it just takes time. I can’t count the number of times I’ve hosted endless lobbies and some guy with over 10000BP and only like 2000PP joins, and they suck. This almost never happens with PP. If someone has around 4000PP they will nine times out of ten know what they’re doing.

Nah once you get to B+ if you dont have a high enough win average you will drop. Heck I see loads of players with under 5k yet a B rating.
To try stay in the 10’s its not possible outside of some serious gimmicks, and you’ll know if thats the case within 2 matches.

Plus, honestly if someone is going to grind their way to 10k: I’d put money on it that if they spend that much time they are willing, and will get better at the game.
You kinda pointed out my problem with PP:
Its to narrow of a gauge. You have 4000+pp, then 3000+pp and once you go lower then the numbers mean nothing to the majority of players.

I suppose its different strokes different folks but I honestly can believe PP is a better gauge of player ability, because its simply another part of BP unless the said person really can/does play 2/3 characters to tournament ability online.

Also I’ve noticed there seems to be a unconscious affect of PP (and BP) on players, whenever Im in the high 2k’s (Im very rarely higher tbh) people approach me differently in a match, they give more respect and play safer, myself and a friend tried it by playing on each others accounts (hes got 500pp :)) people pay WAY too much attention to the numbers than they should. He was winning games on my account due to “people not doing anything”, I was losing games to things like walk up throw x 2.

Anyway, I say get rid of em all and get the arcade ranking system in.
