i know this will never happen, but it’d be awesome if they re-made this game in 2D. or even 3D now with todays graphics. ah, that game sure sucked hard but it had some of the best character artwork i’ve seen in games.
whatever happened to the company that developed it? i think it was Takara.
Its a strong series with a cult following. You never know what could happen with it in the future. Last game released for it I think was the one based on Eiji’s son, or something like that on PS.
The last game was actually based on Sho’s son, forgot his name. He was taken in by Eiji who out of nowhere becomes the head of his own killer tech company and after that the characters got weirder and weirder. The game had a team system where there were three people to a team, of course there were characters assigned to specific teams based on story. Sho’s son teamed up with Kayin’s daughter and some new guy named Rook Castle. I wouldn’t mind playing the game for kicks and giggles, too bad it was only released in Japan.
Toshinden is SWEET! Aside from some major ballancing issues, it was hella’ pimp. Dude, you can fucking buffer inputs, like DP’s, then like dash, dash and jump, etc. then execute. You could even buffer shit while in mid move, dash, then execute. I’m not talking like 3 for 4 frame buffers, either; I’m talking long periods of nuetral time. It was hella sweet.
You could also do some SICK juggles BAT3. Though, to this day I still don’t know wtf is guaranteed and what isn’t, lol.
Battle Arena Toshinden 2 for PS1 is the only game I’d go back and play. The game had such a bad-ass soundtrack (Eiji’s theme) and I really liked some of the backgrounds in the game (like Eiji’s, Mondo’s, and Rungo’s stages). Out of all the Toshindens, it was the closest to a true Arcade-style game, and it was before the system got all crazy like in Toshinden 3. I think Capcom even had a hand in making the game (it was in the credits).
A few months ago, I bought Battle Arena Toshinden 2 PLUS for the japanese Playstation (it’s BAT2 with some minor tweaks; think of it as “BAT2 #RELOAD”) and I also got Toshinden 4. I just wanna say that Toshinden 4 was pretty terrible, but it was worth it to see how the series went out. Had a nice intro, at least.
I wish they’d pick Toshinden back up; I can’t believe they’d drop everything after all they went through. I just don’t like the fact that all those bad-ass characters like Eiji, Kayin, Sofia, and Duke are never going to be seen again. Out of all the “Ryu & Ken” rip-offs, Eiji and Kayin had to be my favorite.
maybe if they reworked everything that was wrong with battle arena maybe then they could work on a new one…i didnt think it was a great fighter in its prime
I remember some of the moves in the first one, just sounded really strange, Eiji dragon punch thing sounded like “Cyyber rubber duck” and some other guy had a move that sounded like “step in lake” thought the game was cool aside from the stupid inputs for some of the moves.
Which one had the guy with the chainsaw, 3? maybe that was the last one I played, I can remember it haveing lots of chars
Aw man, why did you have to remind me about that!???
There was also a Toshinden game where everyone had giant heads and tiny bodies, like Pocket Fighter or Virtua Fighter Kids. And a Toshinden puzzle game too.
My brother and I loooved Toshinden 1. It was the only PS game I owned for a long time and boy did we play it to death. Eiji, Kayin, Sho, Gaia, ect where some pretty cool characters. The music was great too. I remember when it was new, I think Ultimate MK3 was the last of the big name games out, so Toshinden was like a revolution. Too bad the series got worse with each game.
Speaking of Toshinden, anybody have the theme from part 3? I was never able to find that but I loved it.
