am still grieving over this news, like theres some seriously demented people in hollywood. josh brolin looked like he would have been brilliant in the role but now the movie is fucked by pre determined hate.
To be fair the movies Kilmer and Clooney were in are still being dogged on, and rightly so because they were the wrong actors and the movies were shit.
I dunno how ill handle this new movie, first they made superman a murderer and now batman is gonna be an asshole. Bruce Wayne can be an asshole its his job but now Batman is gonna be an asshole… this movie is fucking done.
With the Kilmer and Clooney movies you also gotta keep in mind that they were just awfully fucking made movies in general. Idk about Clooney, but maybe Kilmer could have been better if the material itself were better.
Might be my age but I really don’t give a fuck about any of this.
Has Affleck demonstrated decent acting ability? Yep.
Does Affleck have experience as a celebrity and socialite that he could apply to the Wayne character a la RDJ/Stark’s substance abuse problems? Yep.
Is this at the end of the day another brain-numbing Snyder movie that everyone’s gonna bitch about after watching on opening night? Yeeeep.
EDIT: A lot of people kept saying “remember Heath” “remember Heath”… well what about “remember Keaton”? I know some folks didn’t like Burtman 89 because… well who cares nobody’s talking to you. If you thought Keaton portrayed Batman/Wayne well, that casting choice was also a major WTF after he just played Beetlejuice. So I can have an open mind about the Affleck casting even though it’s just another loud stupid Snyder film waiting to happen.
Still wishing for Scott Adkins as Batman…we need a buff dude who is a martial artist, not just “show-muscle”. The movies stress his pseudo-ninja training…which appears to be completely forgotten once he starts fighting crime. Will we ever see a bigscreen Batman that can move like the Animated Series or even the comic version? Every fight he gets into becomes a lumbering brawl. Ditch the bat-armor and go with a suit like New52 Batman.
Good to hear Affleck helping with the script, I’m worried if he also helps direct because we might end up with the same problem Man of Steel has, 2 movies in 1.
Best case scenario: Snyder does what Snyder does, while Affleck ghost-directs the actors. Basically the same division of labor as George Lucas and Irvin Kershner in the Empire Strikes Back.
Just because he wouldn’t make that great a Batman doesn’t mean he isn’t a hell of a writer and director.
I mean, for all we know he could be a Batman Comic Junkie. Still wouldn’t make me like him in the role but I’d sure as hell trust him writing a script and telling people what to do.
I rewatched the town yesterday and take back what I said about Ben s physicality, he got ripped there and will likely do more with batman. at this point I just want Ben to put out a YouTube clip of how he would act as Bruce and what his batman voice would be like. this would be easy for him and likely help a lot of people understand better what happened in that audition room.
Affleck did star in a good movie, it was Dazed and Confused and was awesome, was also out in 93 and he only had a small part. Seriously though he is wrong for the part not because hes a bad actor (which could be argued all day) but he just doesnt have that batman impression. Hes too well known for the comedic romantic bullshit, he has that pissant vibe which makes you not take him seriously. Never in history has there been an uproar like this over somebody getting the a movie part and its all down to him being too much of a well known bitch to pull this off.
Keaton got away with it because aside from Christoper Reeves there was no bar set for a good superhero actor, and the way Burton made it his own thing everything worked out.
Kilmer coulda done better but the movie was shit. Clooney was a joke choice and the movie was overwhelmingly a piece of shit.
Bale rocked it because it was a different kind of take on a superhero movie and the role called for a methodical actor. It was ironical so serious.
Now we have Synder pulling a michael bay the fans want somebody to capture the badassness, the attitude, somebody who can stand next to the man of steel and be his equal. Ben Affleck? gtfo. His voice is god awful, no doubt he can go on the juice and get the muscles but as an actor hes never had the gravity to make you believe he was actually the main man.
Ah well, Batman and Robin was pretty funny, just need to lower your expectations to zero so you can enjoy this next movie in the same way lol.
