Are you willing to do that for 13-more appearances as he is said to be contracted for?
AKA: 3-5 movies and about 6 solid years worth of affleck-man? Seriously, a generation of children years from now who will look back on their childhood, and recognize goddamn BEN AFFLECK as Batman?
Ugghhh…feel dirty thinking about it. Its one thing to give him a chance but they’re really putting all their eggs in one basket.
Those of us who were once children also and collectively look back on Michale Keaton fondly as Batman, while regarding George Clooney’s rendition of the role with disdain, disagree with you.
You’re also trying to shallowly place modern day comic book movies as mere “kids stuff”. Times have changed yo. These movies get as much adult & mainstream attention as ANY other movie released these days.
Furthermore, Batman himself has also sorta become the closest thing to James Bond. In that EVERYBODY pays attention to who the new Batman will be in each generation of movies.
True Grave: YOU are the one who just raised the point that CHILDREN will one day look back on this time period. Not me.
And if we as adults are able to look back on movies from when we were kids with a greater level of discrimination, what makes you think that future adults won’t do just the same thing?
Whose arguments are flimsy here?
We don’t need to worry about micromanaging children’s taste in movies. They’ll figure it out on their own.
Just going on what he has shown me. He’s doing good now, you say? It wasn’t all that long ago that he was box office poison and putting out flops. Unlike others such as Bale, Affleck is a very hit & miss actor. One minute he’s doing well and the next he is totally shittin’ the bed on most big projects he is put in.
Does not inspire much confidence when your lead star only has a 50/50 success rate at BEST.
And you’d readily have me put faith on this NOT being one of his low points?
Edit: And yeah i just don’t feel he is right for the part altogether.
And you were the one that implied they won’t give a damn so long as its Batman. I was setting you straight by reminding you of what history has shown us.
Kids aren’t brainless idiots anymore than we were. Anyhow, whatever. I’ve said all i need to. Going to retire from this miserable subject. Damn you Dc-hollywood.
While I agree Ben is a bad pick…the sad truth is that modern comic movies are kids stuff and most likely always will be.
The comics themselves fluctuate between PG-13 and R ratings especially with the modern marvel now and new 52 books. It isn’t just in violence and sex though that makes the comic more mature. Unlike comic book movies most comics are action comedies via iron man 3 or avengers style. For as much as I love comic books even I can’t pretend comic book movies have elevated them as respectful pieces of cinema…if anything they make comic books embarrassing.
I went to Fan Expo today, and most people there were raging about Ben Affleck. I even asked Stephen Amell about it and he just laughed.
I did however ask him about whether he would be portraying Green Arrow in any of the movies, or if he’d been talked to about JLA, and his response was that they had to get permission from Chris Nolan for Flash to be in the series, and that it was highly likely that whoever plays Flash in the show would be in the Flash movie as well, and that he had extremely high hopes that he would be in the JLA movie, or possibly cameo in the Supes/Batman movie. His exact line was that he had talked to Nolan and co. and told them “Lets make lots of money”
That’s right. And I bet when you were in elementary school, you got excited when new Batman came out no matter who was playing the role. I’m not saying kids are stupid. I’m saying their priorities are different.
Goddamn niggas just watch an animated Batman flick or some shit. I considered those better adaptations than movies anyway. You know, cause its drawings to drawings, not fucking real people.
At least Ben got something to prove to all you nerds now.
