Batman/Superman movie announced for 2016

Further investigation shows that this was more of an interpretation, than what has come out of the creators mouths directly. But the link to judaism and superman is still blatantly there.

But if comparing Superman to Jesus was meant to “Christianize” the hero, they might have picked a better candidate. Jesus was a Jew, the last supper was a Passover meal, and every minor prophet has a miracle or two tucked up their sleeve. Jonah lived in a whale.
Orphaned at birth to protect him from a world destroying cataclysm, the Man of Steel is most often compared to Moses because they were both raised by non-Jewish families and eventually accessed magic powers to save their tribe. Also presented as evidence are the similarities between the S symbol on Superman’s chest and the Hebrew character Lamedh. Larry Tye, author of Superman: The High-Flying History of America’s Most Enduring Hero, compared Superman’s code of ethics—“Truth, Justice, and the American Way”—to the Mishnaic values of “truth, peace, and justice.”

You are missing my point on this subject entirely. Yes, that is how THE MOVIE made it, but the only reason we’re talking about this is because this interpretation is supposed to be Superman in the real world and that is the justification for why he acts the way he does. The problem with that is that it would be VERY EASY to have a real world justification for him to act like how he does in the comics. I also made the point that Superman is a fictional character and can be written in any way.

To make a long story short, being in the real world is not an excuse for Superman to be the way he is, bad writing is.

I don’t even know what your point is. Once again, my problem has nothing to do with the religious imagery, my problem is that they want Clark to be a flawed human and to be selfish and to not care about anything but himself BUT ALSO want him to be a messiah. My problem is the contradiction in these two elements. Despite whatever acts of selfishness Jesus had, he was undoubtedly a selfless person who gave much more than he asks for and did good for the sake of doing good. Superman does nothing of the sort and they have done nothing to justify the deification he has in BvS.

On top of that, all of the themes they’re dealing with, how would the world react to super heroes, should we let someone like Superman run around with no one pulling the reigns, should we take the good with the bad because when these mythic monsters who can end the world come around only people like Superman can stop them, that’s all fine and dandy. Here’s the problem with that, they ask the question, but what are the answers? Do the writers and directors know the answers? Are there even answers or is every answer valid? It takes nothing to ask the question, asking questions is not what makes your story smart. Providing context and resolving your story, having a complete thought is what makes a story smart. Additionally, if every answer is valid then the question doesn’t matter. If anything can be pulled from the context and be correct then the question has no weight, has no stakes, has no tension. It’s not like these are super philosophical questions that have no legitimate answers, it just comes down to personal belief, they are very shallow uninteresting questions even on expanded thought.

Oh, and as a closing thought, you act like DC is making a higher level of movie because it’s not something you can “turn your brain off” for, but every theme and plot point in this movie is EXACTLY what Civil War is about, so lol.

Yeah. I think the presumption was religious figures only, because in ways its really obvious how superman relates to them, but they have never themselves come out and said it. I think it was a combination. They died so long ago before these types of discussions became the norm though. lol.

I would say its obvious superman has jewish influence, and its religious in nature, but this was also a creation of the mind of two boys who also were influenced by other shit too. Those things just all came together.

Its the same way that its no shocker japanese anime and manga have a bunch of blue eyed, blonde haired saviors in their comics and animes, and they have a connection to the nazis, AND have portrayed their black characters in racist and stereotypical ways. Even though those niggas in fiji are just as japanese as they are, and dont get me started on the original samurai of japan being black. WHICH IS NO SHOCKER,and in a way means nothing, because back than they werent debating race like we do.

But jesus has selfish moments, and was essentially a superhuman amongst men, who even embraced what normal men did not. Samson was a bad guy who god essentially used for his purposes. Not just a bad guy, but the strongest bad guy. AGAIN, superman is based off of religious characters, and their stories are being told in a different version.

You cant be mad at a director for using their artistic expression in telling a story about a character who was LITERALLY created from jewish religious imagery, and has been portrayed as a messiah figure in comics more times than i can count.

The most effective use of kryptonite was not making a spear, but definitely not making a suit or brass knuckles. That is some comic level stuidity. Short of the spear, bruce used kryptonite in the most effective way possible, gas grenades. The spear is a plot point, and also religious imagery.

Im not missing your point. Im replying to exactly what youre typing. We’ll just agree to disagree on a real world interpretation of superman. Superman was definitely raised in a way on these two films to be a GREAT guy, better than you and i, but also still flawed, upset and angry. He almost died twice fighting for this planet. Im confused. What was i supposed to find when googling it. A spear, that they used to stab jesus. So a spear in BvS, a movie with a ton of religious imagery about him being a messiah, a christ figure, in while not dying from a lance, dying by the lance. I aint mad at that. I dont like winter soldier, but im a fan of captain america in general. Movies wise at least. Hes great in the avengers movies, i really liked the first captain movie, and this movie looks incredible.

Finally saw the Batman/Superman movie the other day. Wow. Just wow. I knew DC wanted to catch up but, i severely underestimated the sheer depths of desperation they were in to do so! The ending just floored me. I never thought they’d be this stupid to pull such a card this early.

It was Man of Steel 2, Batman Vs Superman, Justice League Origins, Doomsday/Death of Superman, and setting up Injustice Gods, all CRAMMED into (1) movie!! WTF?!

Despite being a crappy and desperate comic book movie, i still enjoyed it on the grounds of being an entertaining action flick. Ben affleck really proved me wrong as Batman also, and i was one of those who signed that petition a while back.

Oh, and poor Superman and Superman fans!! He got treated like total ASS through-out this entire movie! Poor guy never even got to throw his 2 cents in. He was perpetually stuck reacting to everybody, and never really making any headway of his own, and then at the end…uggghh.
