People aren’t DC critics especifically. Niggas still complain about AoU and Thor 2. MCU, especifically Avengers and Winter Soldier, rose the bar for super hero flicks.
The Nolan movies are a special case though: The best ones came before the MCU, with TDK out in the theaters alongside Iron-Man. TDKR came alongside the Avengers and we just saw Marvel prove the hard way that you can make great comic book movies while staying true to the source. TDK is still a good ass movie, and Begins is ok, but the time to be ashamed of being based on a comic is long gone.
Golden Age Supes literally burst through reality to smack some sense into Earth 1 Supes for them to stop with the dark shit in Infinite Crisis and get their act together…
You can have darkness in the universe. Gotham is generally expected to be a brooding, dark place, but you need something bright and colorful to clash with it and say that their universe isn’t completely like that. Marvel started with the silly shit and Civil War now has a similar gray filter to Man of Steel in some scenes, yet nobody bats an eye. Why? They earned their right to bring their that darkness and more serious tone to their universe because we are already invested into what will happen to those characters.
DC is just rushing things instead of making sure the audience, that’s not tumblr kids that project themselves into anything, actually gives a fuck. It’s even worse when you are messing with cultural icons like Batman and Superman.
Is it hard to get ready for the day when you live in a house without mirrors?
Yes, you’ve been extremely firm in your complete blind prejudice against anybody else’s concerns about the movie. Thanks for sharing your own, though, so we can now know which concerns might possibly be valid.
That type of discussion is *incredibly * ugly.
That’s a disappointing lie. I’ve been pointing people to further information and industry discussion about the movie so maybe I can try to figure out the hell they were thinking and how we got into the weird state they released this movie in. The movie sketches in so much that it’s hard to figure out what they were trying to do… I apologize if my actually pointing people to useful data was “no discussion”.
But sure, RottenTomatoes and almost every other critical source on the planet do strongly back your assertion that this is a flawless movie, that “who gives a shit about this”, that I “have a stick up [my] ass”, that I’m not “mentally coherent” (which is entirely possible given I had a severe fever), that “[my] audience must have been filled with jaded shit heads with horrible opinions about everything, especially movies”, and so forth. Alla that seems like a healthy and honest attempt at a discussion. One wonders why one would be generally politely ignored.
This kind of shit - people that act like the asshole you’ve been acting like here - are exactly why I didn’t even want to see Batman v Superman until my friend begged me to go with her. It’s not that I can’t stand Snyder’s movies - I’ve seen all the major ones - it’s that you get complete asshats doggedly trying to trash anybody not subscribing to the glorious groupthink. I had a major problem with the second act of Man of Steel - it’s fucking CGI overkill garbage that leads to an incredibly illogical climax, and people would act like I shat on a baby if I spoke up about it.
You enjoy your movies, I’ll enjoy my movies. I find Batman v Superman an interesting failure of a movie, and thus I talk about it. If that bothers you so much that you can’t treat other people with any respect whatsoever - or if any worse that this is how you normally interact with people - maybe you should get out more.
Im sorry, but avengers and winter soldier raised the bar? Ehhh. The movie that is all over the place, and doesnt even come alive until the aliens invade, and the movie where the plot is that hydra wants to shoot dissenters by their internet post is raising the bar? I would argue iron man1 , ant man, and guardians of the galaxy are raise the bar movies. I can discuss that in detail in a different thread.
Like nothing happens in avengers until the little forest scene, which was dope, but short. Then next is the hellicarrier thing, which is highlighted by hulk vs thor for sure. Next is like 20 minutes of nothing, then the invasion. Avengers really doesnt have a lot going on at all outside of the invasion. Its a movie that you fast forward to the good parts, and when they arent fighting, there arent a lot of good parts. Age of ultron at least has some non fighting moments that you dont mind watching, and are fun/funny.
I mean, clearly golden age superman is a reference point for the easter eggs, but son, that ended like 30 years before i was born. loll.
The rest, word. I think DC got caught up with having super successful tv shows, so now theyre writing around that. Im not sure if they expected the flash and arrow to do as well as they did, and spark such a major interest in the franchise.
Now i think they decided, well lets speed this shit up to catch up. The reality is, no one wants a batman reboot. We complain about marvel comic movie reboots ALL THE TIME. We hate it! The easiest thing is to write the obvious, batman v superman, base a lot of it off of frank millers dark knight (well most of it), which was a very very popular book, and kinda fast forward into the dc comic universe.
Marvel has what, two shows, that no one watches. It can do what it wants. DC now has to kinda balance the dc tv shows with its movies, and im not sure they expected that. Nor am i sure they expected that in hindsight fans would not really be fans of the nolan series as much as they turned out to the theater for, so they have to redo batman again for the like 5th time. lol
I do think that dc’s comic movie lineup is all over the fucking place. Maybe wonder woman will be randomly good, but we’re not getting anything until november 2017 with justice league 1. Which makes no sense, because no one will know who aquaman is, or cyborg, or the movie version of the flash.
**So either dc is going to shoehorn in the jla in a way that makes what you guys call shoehorning in BvS look like light work, or JLA is going to be an all over the place disaster film. **
Do people really still care about DC vs Marvel? Don’t we just all want everybody to make excellent movies and shows? DC peeps can crow about how awesome the Batman movies have been, Marvel peeps can cherish one of the most impressive shared world series of all time.
I think competition is good as it breeds clear expectations and doesn’t allow you to sit on your laurels. So although in the overall scheme I don’t care about DC vs Marvel, I do think even Marvel cares about DC vs Marvel.
Capcom came out with SFIV, it led to a new age of fighting games.
Marvel came out with the MCU, led to a new age of super hero movies.
Thats not true, and you can open up your paypal right now, and i’ll give you 10 bucks if you can find an instance where i backed up some shit that was so bad, id be a damn fool to criticize. I dont know if i can say that about the rest of you.
Whoa now!
A) I’ll go check out your previous post. I clearly havent been here in a while, while you guys circle jerked over your hate for the film. Again, you were the TLDR guy at the start. No, i didnt pay attention to you, as i abandoned the thread for more saner grounds.
B ) Ive never once claimed in any way shape or form that the movie was flawless. EVER!. Thats why i cant have discussions with you people, because you make up shit more than donald trump supporters. How the fuck is rotten tomatoes a source. Rotten tomatoes has some of the most bias, and ridiculous ratings from critics i have ever seen. People have shitted on rotten tomatoes for over a decade, and its somehow becoming a source.
**ALSO, GUESS WHAT. Rotten tomatoes has a 29 percent rating from the critics, and a 70 percent from the actual people. Thats a 51 percent difference in opinion. If you think that is normal, i have some piss flavored lolipops to sell you too. **
Every critic site has a higher rating from the people vs the critics for this movie, and be fairly large margins.
C) I havent been acting like an asshole at all. There is a dude in here on this page that literally stalks every post that is for batman vs superman. I havent done that. Ive questioned some of the logic for your hate for the movie, with little to no retort. The TLDR guy, who is now making excuses why he couldnt type something up as a proper retort is now calling me an asshole. At least i have the common decency to respond to my detractors, not act like a 14 year old. If you were so sick, than shut the fuck up until you can make a decent reply, but yet, it didnt stop you from typing about the movie at all. Sad face.
D) Ive treated everyone with respect until they treated me with disrespect. Do you want me to call the SJW’s to help you out wittle buddy. Is this too much for you to handle. Just reply with TLDR. Its the best you can do, im sure.
Of course they do. Its why it was one of the first things mentioned here, and why it was one of the first things mentioned in the Man of steel thread. It will always fall back to dc vs marvel when us nerds are raging, and its always started by marvel fans. Shocker. haha
I believe the main reason people still talk about BvS long after its’ release opposite Fant4stic (where discussions died pretty quick) is that BvS is such a jumbled mess of plot disasters that people can still talk about them today and STILL be flabbergasted about how little sense they made and how pointless they were (and even moreso how they could’ve slipped past editing), whereas Fant4stic was just dull and uneventful. I just found every character in Fant4stic to be incredibly bland and mere shells of the characters they were supposed to be portraying, and just…boring.
One may make the case that “as long as they keep talking about it, it’s OK!”, but not really (the drop in box office revenue is pretty much proof to that).
Again, people can say that, but i dont see anyone actually posting what these disasters were. If i need to be directed to a post properly articulating them, i’ll gladly read it.
FF4 is a horrible example to compare to. Someone else brought that up. I just responded. CA winter soldier has a TON OF SHIT that makes ZERO SENSE, and there has not even been an 1/8 of the discussion about its problems, like there has been for man of steel, and batman vs superman.
Ive even openly challenged everyone to tell me why winter soldier is great, and everyone shuts the fuck up. I pick on that movie because its praised here, and its actually not that good at all. Like, not even close. It was the movie that made me realize SRK doesnt know what the fuck theyre talking about.
Challenge is still open, but back on topic. Yeah, ff4 is irrelevant as a comparison. I was responding to someone else, about something else. Its not really relevant to this discussion in any way shape or form.
I dont care about box office numbers. I care that so called comic fans, and comic book movie fans havent become their own worst enemy. That they havent become jaded and stupid by sitting on their asses behind a computer screen for too long. I care about having proper discourse about the good and bad, and not pretending like bvs or even man of steel were these horribly shitty movies, but yet ive seen these same people for years praise, or be fine with comic book movies that have done far more egregious shit in their movies, with little to no peep from people here.
Dont be a fucking dickhead and try to switch the topic. Thats the ultimate cornball shit you could do. We’re finally actually having some semblance of a back and forth, and your first thought is to be internet guy 101.
Get your corny ass the fuck outta here my nigga. Acting like someones grandma who tries to talk about so you think you can dance, because the conversation at the dinner table got too serious.
Like if we needed any more proof that you are an idiot, lmao.
The only franchises whou could possibly said that were revived by SFIV are MVC3, MK and KI, and MK is doubtful since they were doing great before SFIV came (The quality of the games is another issue)
Everyone else were releasing as usual without the need of sfiv.
According to the SFV subforum, all the games between UMK3 and MK9 were not piece of shit fighting games released solely on the strenght of the casual player’s love for the franchise but well thought out fighting games.
