I recommend it because it touches heavily on the theme of the world being ready for someone like Superman, and what it means for him to coexist with humans. To see his origin, and who this version of Superman/Kent is as a man and a god, helps build his character and context for BvS. It’s easy to just say, “He destroyed shit, hur dur,” but you’d be missing the point. To actually see it unfold really makes you connect to the character and his internal conflicts with trying to find his place among mankind.
No do not watch Man Of Steel unless you like wasting 3 hours on boring contrived bullshit that you will probably fall asleep watching.

So after reading through these comments all i took away from it all is that BvS was so shit it made Affleck look good. They need an Oscar for that at least.
Nah man, Affleck was legit good. Most of the acting, barring the godawful Eisenberg was honestly really good. The thign is everything else is fucking garbage.
Lex was awful; I don’t think Eisenberg had much to do with it. I feel any other young actor given that material and direction would have turned in a shitty character as well, because this Lex was garbage going in.
In MoS, he becomes Superman and the next day he is attacked by a group of Kryptonian soldiers with the same abilities that he has. The fact that he won at all should garner him praise. Superman is farmboy, he doesn’t have any military training. Seriously one of the Kryptonians was built like fucking Hugo. I never understood the MoS, criticism. Dude saved the entire world on his first day on the job.
I’m not saying Man of Steel was perfect but it’s far better than BvS. The strongest part of BvS is Batman. However, if I didn’t know better I’d swear that Affleck was playing Thomas Wayne/Flashpoint Batman. Thomas Wayne’s version of Batman was basically the Punisher. He used guns and had no problem smoking criminals. Bruce Wayne’s Batman has an aversion to guns and killing. This is no slight on Affleck he did a damn good job. He should be praised for making chicken salad out of chicken shit.
The one thing BvS did do that was positive was make me look forward to the Aflleck directed solo Batman film. Affleck is arguably a better director than he is an actor. I’d feel better if DC put him in charge of their cinematic universe. Whenever The Batman is released, I’m going see that the first day. Affleck and Irons did a great job in BvS. I’d like to see what they can do in a movie that doesn’t suck.

Lets say your end goal was achieved you convinced someone who like you wasted their time on this movie that they could not and should not feel any joy from watching this movie. Well good for you you’ve not only managed to waste a bunch of time on something you do not like but you’ve also managed to manipulate someone out of their own happiness.

Do we really need to argue about fictional historical inaccuracies, about fictional characters, who even within their own medium of origin, have been jerked around and shifted,and re characterized like the plot devices they are, to entertain in the way the creatives working with them want them to entertain at that particular time?

The point isn’t that Bats and Supes kill some bad guys… It’s the why, and that why goes to the core of their characters.
Batman typically avoids killing because he is super self-aware that dressing up as a Bat and beating the shit out of thugs isn’t something a mentally healthy person would do- So he gives himself the no-killing restriction to keep from going over the line and becoming the very thing he fights against.
Superman does everything he can to solve things peacefully because he knows his powers put him on another level… He doesn’t want to lord over mankind as a god, but rather as an example of what humanity could be if they stopped being douchebags and did the right thing simply because it’s the right thing. If Supes were so inclined, he could conquer the planet Injustice-style in about a day, and make people do right, but that misses the point of what he’s trying to achieve.
THIS is why so many people take issue with Snyder’s interpretations. They are gross perversions of these characters and their moral codes. Why the fuck did Supes spear that terrorist through the entire block, when he could have used 879 other non-lethal measures? Why did Bats cause all that property damage, and kill all those smugglers, only to let the truck full of kryptonite get away? I don’t even take offense to him slaughtering the thugs holding Martha Kent hostage, because of his vow to never let another mother die, no matter what.
You can’t show Superman and Batman doing hero things one minute, and then have them mercilessly killing people the next and expect me to just go along with it. I have a brain, and I know what these characters are supposed to be and represent.
Snyder does not understand these characters at all, and I really hope DC/WB goes in another direction with Justice League… As it stands, the only things I’m still interested in are Suicide Squad and the Bat-fleck stand alone, because those won’t have his hackneyed hands all over them.
Saw it last night. I really wanted to like it but it was honestly one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.
Snyder and Goyer are the true villains in the WB/DC universe. They will ruin DC for us as long as they are in power.

That’s not entirely true. Jon Kent was concerned that the world wasn’t ready for Superman, but when the time came he wanted Clark to be prepared to make a decision on the kind of man he was going to be. I think Jon knew that eventually Superman was going to be inevitable, but he wanted to nurture values into Clark before it happened. The Kryptonians coming to Earth kind of forced the matter, whether Clark was ready or not. I don’t think the world was ever going to be ready, though.
Also when I’m on a giant helipad in the sky, I’m certainly not going anywhere near the edge for any reason let alone when my only companion is a crazy psycho. I understand they needed to make Amy Adams a damsel in distress repeatedly, but three times stupid is a bit much.
