what u guys think of meaty TAPs when opponent is waking up?
i’ve had a lot of success with it, but also been punished plenty of time by ultras.

i dunno… i dont like any kind of non-cancelled dash punch on wake up… eat too many reversals…
i guess this is ok on non-uppercut opponents and opponents who do not have ultra…
if you do this tho, you can also FADC this and surprise throw/go into combo on hit/block
remember if you do a meaty TAP on wake-up be sure it is only LVL 1, as anything higher than LVL 1 is punishable on block… (LVL 1 is -2 on block… LVL 2 is -5 on block which can be punished by shoryuken which has a 3 frame execution)
i prefer…
safe jump-in with j.hp/j.hk… key word safe… meaning if they do shoryuken or ultra, your jump in will whiff and you will land in time to block
FA mix ups (regular FA, FADC backdash feint)
max distance c.mp xx dash low…
whiffed jab on wakeup, throw
empty crossover jump w/c.lp combo string or throw followups mixups
nothing… but stay close and continue applying pressure safely (sometimes the best option imo)
all depends on how the opponent is playing tho… mix it up, mix it up, mix it up :looney:
i dont do meatys unless im leading/losing in lots of life. the only meaty i really do are overhead punches (well timed of course) i dont recall missing the timing and it always looks as if im smacking their corpse on startup but on impact they’re crouching.
TAP is a terrible meaty. u cant follow it up, its generally unsafe, and its definitely punishable. i wouldnt put such a big hole in my games.
i dont even jump anymore. im not a true believer of safe jumps tbh. i’d take an educated guess when i jump in and punish accordingly
Is there a real cross-up from boxer?
lies u nuetral jump bison!
i meant like AT people. neutral jumps i do quite often to zone. i do jump back fierce as a psychic counter to jump-in attempts. i wanna land a whole set when i jump in at people and i got that mentality out of my head. i also used to do ex-loops in hope that it’ll land and i can do a an upper or two.
im pretty patient nowadays. doing jab jab roundhouse combos all day. (apparently my friends find that combo look cooler than any dash straight combo + hits like a truck)
Yeah i think the only character i’ll do jumpins on is abel and bison right now. But usually after mixing some c.LP or something.
i keep getting hit by lariats, what are its properties? how to beat it? thanks.
in before c-trap flames you.
PPP = startup (first rotation) + upperbody invincibility + projectile negation.
KKK = lower body invincibility + projectile negation.
you beat it by not charging in like a moron lol. its near stationary so if you get in it, you either
1.) did a dash punch
2.) did an ex dash punch
3.) DIDNT BLOCK
jump back/forward fierce beats it clean if you smack his head. c.hp beats it if he rotates near you. c.rh loses to it most of the time so its not worth it. exRU is great to punish after initial rotation, followed by the usual jab jab headbutt. you can headbutt it using any strength given that they will hit him.
this stuff is already written tonnesssss of times and we will never improve as a balrog community when we’re still struggling with MOVES and not playstyles. zangief is almost a one trick pony. see past his 3 patterns and you win. no matter how good the player is his depth is very limited. every subsequent post regarding gief will be referred to this post, because i think this is as clear as it gets.
Hi guys, im new here to ask a basic question about boxer’s cross up move(if there is any). I know the same question might be answered before, but i’ve searched threads, nothing mentioned. Please help me out, thanks
boxer doesnt have a crossup unfortunately. That’d be one thing though that would make him even better.
True. No standard shoto j.MK for balrog.
Only thing I’ve really seen suggested is after knockdown you can headbutt to the other side and attempt to create ambiguity. I don’t use it…But figured I’d throw it out there
wait jabx2, rh combos? time to go to training mode!
thanks for the crossup info, does boxer have a normal move that can only be blocked either down or stand ? eg: RYU’s forward MP (be blocked stand only). I do know c.HK is quick and be blocked low only
No he doesn’t have any overhead normals.
yeah, it spaces you out perfectly, does good stun, and usually puts me in a range where i can jump in. i dont really like the sweep version, because seriously, i dont believe in safe jumping (its not my thing).
c.lp, (far) st.lp (x 1 or 2), st.hk (c.hk has the same startup)
the far.lp to st.hk is a 1 frame link, so its unmashable and must be timed. its great though.
it kinda seperates me from typical bnb rogs who just use jab to dash straights when i have this to call my own. landing it is style + skill IMO.
of course u can always start from a far.lp to st.hk as a keepaway. puts them back to a short distance guess game. when i use this at a wall’d opponent, they’re forced to jump out and can be countered with c.hp.
to my knowledge i havent got mashed srk out of this string while blocked.
you can also try
c.lp c.mp xx (special)
j.hk, st.hk, c.mp xx (special)
c.mk, c.mp xx (special)
c.mk, st.hk (or c.hk) <-- another one of my bnbs
c.lp, st.mk xx headbutt <-- hardest. this is just for style points and teaches you how to cancel a down charged special with a standing normal.
just doing these things kills so much time at the arcades. kinda seperates youtube clones from my own rog
j.hk can be used as a cross up apparently.
That’s awesome, gonna try soon, thanks
Are u sure about this? please indicate how it’s gonna work, cause Azn Ink says:" boxer doesnt have a crossup unfortunately. That’d be one thing though that would make him even better. " A specific video thread would be great helpful, many thanks in advance
apparently as in your kidding right? :wasted:
