hmmm crouching mk Head butt gives me problems. Can’t pull that off like i want to. crouching lk Head butt much easier…Crouching lp lp lk head butt again slightly more difficult.
according to the prima guide frame data cr.mk can only be cancelled w/ super. You can 3 frame link to cr.lk or 1 frame link to cr.mp that cancel into HB.
And what was the combo?
HP/EX Overhead Rush ~ C.LK xx HP Headbutt = 258 Dmg, 410 Stun
HP/EX Overhead Rush ~ C.MP xx HP Headbutt = 298 Dmg, 460 Stun
the second combo dont work on some crouchers. c.mp pushes them far and hb whiffs. (char specific)

pretty new to sf… just started learning balrog as my first charge character… so all this constantly charging d/b is making my brain hurt… lol… anyway about his ultra in combos i do …headbutt into ultra… whether its in the middle or corner i’ve been able to connect it pretty consistently… for me i just let the first 2 hits be straights second hit whiffs then do uppers for the rest of em… i was wondering is this viable for all characters?
also do connect his headbutt into super from the middle of the screen i wait a little and just do uppers for all the hits… second last hit whiffs but in the corner i have trouble connecting this… any reliable way to do this?
also i can’t do this myself but can an experienced balrog try this combo and post back please…
jump HK, cr.MK, cr.LK, ex DU, cr.LP, cr.LK, ex DU 4/5/6, cr.LP, cr.LK, hp.HB, ultra…
i know about dmg scaler… but i was wondering how many could u do if u started with a full super meter? and how much stun dmg will this do?
j.hk/hp, st.hk, c.lp/lk xx ex upper, (c.lp, c.lk, ex upper) x3, c.lp, c.lk xx headbutt > ultra.
23 hits. 453 dmg. stun stops at 75x.
oh thx… i was hoping doing all those cr.LP, cr.LK, ex DU would refill ur super meter to let u do more than 3 of them… and sorry for the n00b q. but does that mean the stun is at 75% or just 75??? cause if it just 75 than this is useless… sorry but i don’t know much about this game… lol… i’m generally a soul calibur & king of fighters player…
btw how much stun does this combo give? s.lp, s.lp, s.lp, s.lp, cr.hk? i don’t know y but i love doing this just looks funny…
75x = 750 something. im just guessing.
go try training mode with attack data bro
Thanks a lot for the time put into this guide and information. It’s helped me a lot and I am really enjoying playing as Rog. I am a total noob however and I am still struggling with closing on my opponent. It seems to be that if I am charging quite often the opponents distances themselves from me and they manage to poke me out of a move if I try to dash in. This is mostly a problem of course when I have no super for EX. So any fundamental moves or things I should learn would be appreciated.
Actually something that while of course cannot be followed to the letter but an overall gameplan for a match as Rog would be interesting. Like right after the match starts do you try to jump in? Do you charge and go for a dash? Do you wait and see if the opponent goes to fireball/jump in and then respond?
After the initial bit should you be keeping your distance and charging specials or do you want to try to get closer to the opponent and in their face?
ALWAYS try to maintain db charge, but don’t always require it. When ever you complete a charge special make it a habit to immediately return to charge position so you are ready to follow up with another combo ending in another special. Sacrifice charge to do jump-ins, dash escapes, including FADC. Immediately move back to charging position after completing the non-charging move. i.e. charge db WHILE you are jumping in.
Mix-up your opener, you will find a LOT of players immediately back away from Rog to play zone and charge upper or dash can be a SOLID opener and get you right inside off the bat, even if you exchange hits. I find in Round 2 a Sagat with meter will USUALLY open with an EX knee to 2-hit w/armor break whatever you do, so I often block/charge open in R2 and wait to see what opponent does. If you expect a FB plan for a TAP, HB or jf.HP to beat it.
Most importantly, MIX IT UP. You should open every round differently so you can catch them off guard. Most players EXPECT the same opener to be repeated, especially if you were successful and hit them the first time… Counter by doing something different.
The only opponents you really want to zone are grapplers like Gief and Abel, everyone else you want to get into striking distance ASAP. You can’t hit what you can’t reach, and Rog’s game is dealing damage. You can take a LOT of small combo hits from most opponents and do equal damage with one well placed 2-5 hit bnb combo counter. Combo damage scaling works heavily in Rog’s favor as each strike is stronger than most opponents, and he is still fast and dangerous at a distance unlike grapplers.
For finishing moves I like to throw out something I rarely used the entire match. For me that would typically be TAP, FA, EX-OH rush punch, or if I have some life bar and full EX a Dash-punch xx Super. If you don’t use it they won’t be prepared to block it and it makes a great way to punish complacency.
Thanks that is helpful. What happens to me is when I am charging db they backup to zone me and then pick me off when I close. I guess I shouldnt be so concerned about “wasting” the charge and just moving in.
umm for me i like being defensive with him more… so start of every round i charge d/b and kkk… so i get a free hit on fireball opener users and headbutt jump-ins and dash straight if they are hesitant or dash low smash if they jump back…
to Ephimeral: oh i didn’t even look into that… lol… btw nice avatar…
btw “BAL” & “ROG” in my language means hair and vein… so what a name… lol…
Here’s some advice, HP and HK aren’t your only delivery buttons! use LP HB A LOT to clear fireballs from a distance without retaliation from the whiff. If you want to land just outside SRK/Sweep use MP, and only use HP when you expect to connect as you will get punished on whiff or block.
Use LP dash punches to whiff at a safe distance, or MP to “tip” them with your glove, which usually keeps you out of reactionary retaliation. Just because the H buttons hit hardest, doesn’t mean they are your go-to, you have much better recovery and combo abilities off the lower punches, and you can chain more hits together making them do nearly as much damage.
openers do NOT work at a high level. they can neutral jump a land a jump-in set when all your punches whiff behind them. hp headbutt is easily locked and counter. i wouldnt bet on an opener to win my games.
no. react to see what type of player your opponent is.
every opponent shall be zoned accordingly. i zone everyone in the corner and unload when theres an opening.
everything should be used at some point. dash sweep straight is the most overlooked punch.
do NOT try and ‘maintain’ db. you can start charging at the beginning point of every 4 hit combo. maintaining charge beckons to get crossed up or jump-ins at most points. im an avid FA user too, and i build charges from there
My best opener is down back :o
Works every time.
Also, anyone with two eyes and doesn’t suck at this game can punish a whiffed jab rush. Don’t do it.
This is the best advice.
When I started (which was about 5 days ago) I was getting chewed up for this exact reason. If you bust your hump trying to hold charges your loosing a lot of chances to apply pressure or just stick out some jabs or a fierce punch right in someones face.
helpful stuff here. But does anyone have any links for videos of top rog users im struggling to find any on youtube? they r mostly montages but id prefer to see full matches of really good boxer players. I think this may help my game, cheers.
look for aojiru on youtube. hes the most prominent one around.
i’d only use it for reference however. i play nothing like the boxer videos i’ve watched and im pretty competent in a very competitive arcade scene in hk. (imagine japan but much more concentrated.)
i use FA to keep my pressure up after a few block strings and i dash and throw often. being clones of players isnt a good way to improve your game. one rule of thumb is to dont spam or jump mindlessly
yeah, i dont wanna attempt to play like other people just thought it would be interesting to look at really good players of balrog because i havent seen many. thanks, ephemeral.
i think as you get a basic understand on what moves are best for certain situations you can develop your own style.
