her blocked pinwheel was -2 (like bison’s blocked sk) so only very few characters could punish. -5 is now punishable for all characters
Pinwheel never seemed like a move you should be able to just throw out haphazardly to me – but I’m not a Juri player.
My memory is iffy atm but wasn’t it -4 on stand guard?
I said nothing more or less than that Ryu wasn’t a master of team synergy. Even so he can’t hitconfirm into any of those moves other than a chained st.hk because all of his special moves will leave his incoming teammate with a juggle situation, which nearly any character can accomplish. He’s average, like Sagat, whose EX TU does the same damage, overhead switch cancel combos as well, pretty much has the same tools except he deals more damage.
Compare him to characters like Ken, Law, Xiaoyu, Nina, Juri, etc. and he’s got weak team synergy. Compare him to Abel and Marduk and he’s good. He’s somewhere in the middle. He’s certainly not good enough at it for you to be asserting that I’ve never played a good Ryu simply because I don’t think he’s a master at it.
I actually expect the rufus pool to dry up real fast
but more worrying I think they may jump to raven
I’m glad you brought up Raven. Why was he untouched? He still keeps his ridiculous mixup and all of this uber good tools. And if they didn’t want to nerf him, why didn’t they buff any weaker characters? How about giving King a grab that doesn’t lose to mashing jab?
Ryu is not so bad where bad players are beating good players simply because the character is too good. If you’re bad Ryu you are going to lose to the better player, period. Ryu is good, but he has a lot of issues too. He’s not particularly good with boost combos. His main hit confirm takes meter. He donkey kick lockdown isn’t a true block string and is easy to alpha counter. Fireball card off a Darrel is okay but not good enough to base your game around it.
Overall if someone us better with Ryu, meaning they have better spacing and better footsies than you they win. But generally if your practice your whiff punishment game and know your ranges you can beat Ryu with anyone. Some people will be good enough to make him work well, but this is player not character.
There will probably be more adjustments that hasn’t been announced yet, is my guess.
I want Cammy to have a faster cannon strike. And I hope Kaz can still restand via tag cancel. I feel that massively opens up the character’s team synergy options.
I wonder why they made Pinwheel unsafe? It’s not like SF4 where it was a go-to option for damage at the end of combos… she has much better tools now for damage when she hits her normals and now it can’t be used as a poking tool. Really strange.
I wager they just changed the abusive / brain dead stuff. As much hate as raven gets, he’s still not that hard to deal with if you know the matchup. Rufus dive kick cross up was pretty brain dead in this game.
I think it was -2 on stand block(LK Pinwheel). I dont know the exact frames on crouch block, but it’s more punishable .
…
Its comparisons like these that make me think you’ve never really seen what he can do…
Juri shouldn’t have been pinwheeling and diveKicking like crazy anyways, so I just see it as making her less abusive while keeping her real tools intact. I’m okay with that.
cMP, cMP, cMK takes meter now?
Well they didn’t change her dive kick so she’ll still be doing that as much as she wants, no? But it’s not like her dive kick is particularly good either so I don’t mind that part.
because, relatively speaking, no one plays him. Look at the results of any tournament or weekly and compare how many Ravens are in the top 4-8 (you’ll be lucky to find one), and how many are Ryu, Ken, Rufus, Kazuya, Hugo, Jin, and Rolento. Huge difference. I think Online Tony is the only person I’ve seen place in tournaments/weeklies on a semi regular basis that uses Raven.
For whatever reason, it seems most people haven’t caught onto the insane BS-ness of Raven yet.
I’m trying not to be offended here. I think you haven’t seen what some other characters can do, because you think that building 1 bar while spending 3 is impressive. Law, for example, nearly builds 1 bar before it’s even time for him to switch cancel. He spends 1 bar and builds 1 1/2 off of his bnb, and that’s if you don’t have meter gems (he can activate a 3 special requirement with one bnb before switch canceling.) That’s an example of a master of team synergy.
What can Ryu do with a switch cancel that the average character can’t? His hitconfirms lead into switch cancel juggles, while a lot of characters can give their teammate a full grounded combo, possibly with a jump-in (Ken, Law, Chun).
Because I compared him to Sagat, that means I don’t know what he can do? It’s a pretty easy comparison to make. Overhead switch cancel combos for both characters, Sagat’s does more damage. EX DP is 200 damage for both. Solar plexus strike is slow and hardly better than a two-hit Tiger Knee, or even st.HK from Sagat. I consider them both average in terms of team synergy, the only difference being that Sagat does much more damage off of a switch-canceled anti-air.
One setup I often see is Ryu EX DP, switch cancel into Zangief who can connect all hits of lariat while Ryu locks them in place. Tested in training mode off of a simple hitconfirm (c. lp, c.mp) this does 473 damage for 2 bars. On my average switch cancel combo with Sagat (c.mp, c.mp xx TU, switch cancel into Abel or Law) I do 427 for only 1 bar. If I want to spend more I’m going to clear 500 easily. This is average in SFxT. Why would you spend 3 bars on switch cancels when you can Cross Art and leave them with no grey health, especially if you’re using a zoning character like Ryu?
Ryu’s overhead into tag cancel: 16 frames startup (Too fast to react to unless you are really expecting it) + 4 on hit (That is the scond hit btw, and you can tag on the first hit, so It’s very easy to combo from)
Sagat’s overhead into tag cancel: 20 frames startup and +1 on hit (Can you even combo from that using a tag cancel?)
I really don’t care about this conversation anymore. Think whatever you want about Ryu and how he works in this game.
