I think its more that the Japanese vs. American metagames tend to have distinct differences, personally. That aside, the Japanese have already said that Raven is S tier, I don’t think its really a question of whether or not he’s recognized as being good.
I think modifications like evening up the extreme edges of the tier lists will be things that have to be handled delicately so they are going to give it a bit more time. Paul, Yoshimitsu, Raven, Kuma, etc won’t get changes for a little while.
I’d call those minor wrinkles. Those aren’t real issues at all:
-He needs meter for hit confirms? So what? He can gain a lot of meter while zoning. Some other characters don’t have that luxury and still require meter for average damage BNBs.
-Not good with boost combos? What the hell does he need boost chains for when his links are brain dead easy?
-Donkey kick lockdown not being a true block string? Yes, let’s ignore the fact that the hole can serve as a frame trap to keep your opponent from pressing buttons after they block one of Ryu’s cr. mks/hks. That supposed liability you’re pointing out actually works to Ryu’s advantage.
-Donkey kick easy to alpha counter? News flash: Everyone’s lockdown options are easy to alpha counter. But does everyone have lockdown options that deal chip damage and leave you at frame advantage? Hell, no.
I suggest you go play a character with real issues before claiming Ryu has any. Thing is, Ryu has a full set of effective tools while some characters have an incomplete set of seriously flawed tools.
I’m not saying Ryu needs a nerf, but if Capcom leaves him as is, they’ll need to buff a lot of other characters so they can stand even against Ryu.
Rufus divekick at -4? As much as I want to laugh my ass off, in spite of my hatred towards him, I am sad. That seems a bit harsh imo…
Like wishing that dumbass kid doing wheelies around the block would fall off his bike… but when he finally does fall off his bike, he breaks his neck and requires a monkey named KoKo to spoon feed him cream of wheat for the rest of his life…
not sure, i’ll test when the patch hits though…Poison still can’t punish it with her DP, but she can use close :lp: (3 frames) to hit confirm into whatever…
I can’t believe they actually went there and are asking money for Gem packs.
That’s something that affects how the game is played, and should never be DLC, it should be on the game I paid full price for.
Reasons like these are why new releases will see less sales and less interest in the future IMO. I for one haven’t purchased any DLC for this game yet. I don’t mind paid DLC. I buy new custumes, add-on levels and such, but this? This is the reason why I nearly didn’t buy this game in the first place.
Completely agree with you m8. It is like paying DLC to unlock kick buttons for a character. Gems is a core fundamental of the game and the game is balanced around them. Gems should have all been free.
Fixing infinites in a game is alright most of the time… but balance tweaks.
This early on.
And more of them are on the way as things get discovered.
Well, it looks like not buying this game was the right choice. Find some good tech? Well, it’s probably too strong. It’s gonna be “fixed.” Lot of people doing well with your character? Nerfed. Got a move that demolishes scrubs? Better make it easier to punish. Character that’s awesome but under represented? Buffs!
…Balance tweaks shouldn’t happen unless something is swinging every match up for x character by two points.
The hitstun for every move of the same type is usually identical, the only thing that matters is recovery, but since recovery is irrelevant when you switch cancel, it’s irrelevant for calculating frame advantage. The only important thing is that Ryu’s overhead hits twice, which is a big advantage for those types of overheads, since you can switch cancel on the first hit then have a second hit come later giving you more frame advantage to combo after. For this reason, Sagat’s overhead is a much tighter link to combo after than Ryu.
Ryu is obviously not as strong a teammate as a number of others; the fact that he can do extended combos after EX DP isn’t that huge, since you’re blowing 2 bars just to do the combo, and I’m sure most strong characters can produce comparable damage for 2 bars. The real point of comparison is characters like Ken, who not only has a non-EX switch combo with ground hurricane kick, but lasts forever letting you get a free jump-in. Even compare something like Ryu’s DP: after a DP switch cancel, teammates are punishable with a 3 frame move, which is effectively unpunishable for a chunk of the cast, but still means you’re at big frame disadvantage and put your running-in partner into a bad situation. Ken and Akuma, on the other hand, actually put their teammates at frame advantage at point blank range because of their multi-hit DP - this is a really dirty trick if your 2nd character is a character like Hugo, Marduk, Zangief, Heihachi or whoever. Akuma’s even launches them so high you can get a jump attack during the juggle.
From my understanding, these are the Pre-order gems (I don’t know for certain, just have seen a few people mention that). So if that’s the case, it would make sense if they charge for those, to be fair to those who pre-ordered.
(glares at BBCS:EX)
If it’s not… whatever at this point, I just won’t be buying them and would hope that no one would.
After a quick glance, it seems that a lot, if not most of the pay gems are just the pre-order and special edition gems. So, many of us already have a number of these for free.
Pre-order/special edition people would have been upset if they gave these away for free.
