Iron avengers into raw tag works and gets you level 5 almost no matter what, costly on meter though but worth noting, especially because a TAC from zero into Ironman should be a near guarenteed level 3, just have to make sure you don’t kill them. Outside of that his only hard/soft knockdowns are repulsar which is far too short, even to x factor cancel raw tag, and Proton cannon which will never hit them high enough for the soft knockdown to give you time to dhc and camera.
I’ll have to try out Iron Avenger tonight. Between Zero being Zero and Ironman second for TACs, I’m not too worried about meter - especially if it can net me lvl5 Frank. I tried Repulsar last night and you’re right, doesn’t last long enough. Thanks.
Been lurking the IM forums for bit. I’ve borrowed your team and made a few slight tweaks to it. I’ve been running.
Dorm (hole) / Iron Man (Repulsor) / Sentinel (Drones)
I’ve been away from UMVC3 since like a month after release and decided to get back into it since its basically the only game that my local scene has any interest in playing lately. I’ve discovered some pretty wacky stuff so far in my 2 nights of Training mode / Online matches but looking for any more tech with this team. Been studying Fchamps and Masta CJ’s Dorms for tech also.
One notable thing I’ve been trying to get is after a hard knockdown I’ll flame carpet, call Tony Repulsor then teleport behind for mixup. Repulsor stays out a fair amount of time and I would sometimes get people to roll right between the carpet and the repulsor, on wake up I would just fly in for an easy overhead start to Dorm’s combos.
What kind of stuff are you using with Beam / Missiles Newsburger? I haven’t started working on Drones tech once Dorm is down though. I’ve got a capture card so I might try and get something recorded for advice later.
I’ve been trying it out and it works great. Thanks again. Think I’ve got my team.
I’m pretty sure zero/Frank can get Frank to level 4 off of one combo and 2 meters (which shouldn’t be too hard to get with zero)
None of us in the Zero forum have figured out a way other than TACs which I don’t want to rely on. If you know of way please feel free to share. The ways to get him leveled the better.
Oh wait you’re right now that I think about it Frank would have to be on point my bad
I know people talk a lot about Iron Man and Sentinel but I was playing around with them today and they really go so well together. You can do things like repulsar, jump jab (call sentinel drones) dash forward, and the opponent is forced into a situation where they have to guess/block and deal with a mixup, and if they get hit initially then you can combo off of it. Obviously everyone knows how it helps Iron Man create pressure in the neutral game, but you have so many options if the opponent is blocking the drones. Plink dashing back and forth infront of the opponent is pretty amusing while the drones are out.
Of course I’m not an elite Marvel player but what are the thoughts on Iron Man and Sentinel?
@Danke Thanks for the response as well, think I’m going to leave Vergil for the moment, he isn’t really exciting me much
So my team at the moment I think is going to be Modok/Iron Man/Sentinel. I think they could work really well together.
Great team will always catch the opponent with a surprise because Modok is a tricky match up the team seem like is can either get blown up or you will OVC.
What iron man assist are you using because for a team like this both repulsar blast and unibeam is great
Ah, that’s good to hear. It’s funny you ask that because I found some really good stuff with Modok and Unibeam, but after watching some Modok combo videos repulsar assist might be better for Modok because Unibeam might have too much scaling?
Unibeam with Modok seems to work so well because it’s so easy to pin people down, using body slam/unibeam or st.m/unibeam
Modok and Drones seem to go great together, and Iron man Drones seem the same, also the TACs for this team must be pretty awesome, haha.
I’m doing Haggar/Deadpool/Iron Man again. Iron Man anchor is sub optimal (and that’s pushing it) but I like this team a lot and Unibeam assist is godly for Haggar since it holds people perfectly in place for THE PIPE, and he has a really good super meter positive TOD using Quick Work and Unibeam assists in his combos. Plus I actually enjoy playing Iron Man as anchor. Maybe I was dropped on my head as a kid or something.
Hopefully I can get this Haggar junk down before EVO. I’ve gotten S meteor smash instead of Wild Swing in my bnb so many times I want to throw my stick out a window.
If you’re gonna use that team, why not just play a Deadpool anchor? Fast as balls, great XF chip / runaway, crossup overheads in XF, Haggar still has access to both assist and he also gets a strong TAC option.
I might end up doing that.
I’m pretty set on Iron Man (Repulsor)/ Dr. Strange (Eye)/ Akuma (Tatsu). Messed around with it a bit in casuals and really like the neutral with it. One projectile assist that locks down and adds a lot of durability to his unibeams and repuslor blast and another fast lockdown assist that helps him deal with start of round neutral, absorbs projectiles and a solid anchor also. I’ll have to see what combos I can set up with those assists but I prefer the strength in the neutral over most of the other IM teams I’ve played regardless.
I played similar team for a while Iron Man (Repulsor)/ Dr. Strange (Bolt of ballssack)/ Morrigan (meter) very good team but loses to rush down morrigan meter building is really good for both, iron man and strange i also use skrull as point sometime opponent calling assist vs skrull and strange with morrigan building meter easy Tod + assist.
Hey guys, thinkin about picking up Iron Man. I dabbled in him in Vanilla, but I’m not sure if picking him back up would be worth it because of… Tony Stark’s reputation.
Right now I’m running Joe/Ammy(Ice)/Hawkeye(Arrows). If I put Tony in there, it’d be Joe/Stark(Unibeam)/Ammy. I feel like Hawkeye is a better character, but Unibeam would be a better assist for Joe (Voomerang spam), and Ammy would be a better anchor than Hawkeye. I love me some Clint, but arrows don’t enhance Ammy TOO much, and his anchor game is a little gimmicky.
I know Tony is considered low tier (not that I care much, I use Joe), but it seems like Ammy ice would make him at least functional. Do you guys think my team would be well served by the change up?
I’m completely biased considering how thats my team. I can’t argue against the fact that Hawkeye is possibly a better character but Ironman has a really strong high/low game with his airdash down j.A which Ammy will help him use really well. Plus Ammy is really strong with unibeam behind her if you’re ever in the situation. She can run a quick high/low game while the beam is hitting.
Mmkay, I think I’ll take Tony to the lab and try him out next time I play some casuals. Do you think I should run him in the back or go with the original formation I had planned?
Well to be honest, I haven’t had the time but I’ve been really wanting to experiment with running Joe/IM/Ammy. I for the most part have always done Joe/Ammy/IM.
There are too many pros/cons for me to choose which is better.
Pros and Cons of Joe/Ammy/IM:
Pros:
-Joe is backed by 2 amazing assists that allow him to do 850K with just one meter (see bomb combos)
-If joe is low on health it is much safer to DHC into Ammy than ironman
-Ammy becomes really dangerous with unibeam assist. (After an air throw or okami shuffle, call unibeam assist to lock the opponent down as they are getting up so all they can do is just block and airdash at them to keep the pressure).
- THCing with this team is really good. Everything comes out so quickly after the flash.
Cons:
-If you want to abuse Joe’s ability to do a dodge into a THC you have to have 3 Bars if you want abuse the fact that IM’s super hits at the super flash.
-Ironman is not the best anchor but if you have the life lead you’ll be in good shape. IM shines when the opponent has no choice but to run into his normals.
Pros and Cons of Joe/IM/Ammy
-Joe is backed by 2 amazing assist that allow him to do 850K with just one meter (see bomb combos)
-Ironman on point with Ammy assist does much better than solo Ironman obviously. His high/low game is much better than Hawkeye’s.
-With Joe on point all you need is 2 bars and then your opponent will have to be very careful at getting close you because you can THC and smack them in the face with the first hit of IM’s proton cannon. Its fastest if Joe’s THC super is Mach Speed (I use Joe’s uppercut as an assist).
-Ammy is a great anchor with a Lvl 3 x-factor infinite.
-If joe is KO’d, Ammy can give Ironman a safe DHC option so you can bring in Ammy if Ironman’s health is low. Then you have Ammy with ironman assist.
-DHCing in this team order is much easier than the other order.
Con’s
-I would say the Ammy w/ IM assist is better than IM with Ammy assist. the latter is what you’ll have most of the time if you play this order.
-Can’t safely get Joe out of the fight if his health is low
-DHCing to get Tony out of harms way into Ammy is harder since Proton cannon has no invincibility and long startup.
All I’m gonna say about anchor Iron Man is get used to using THC Reversal Proton Cannon to save your ass A LOT and don’t underestimate how good it is at stopping teleport and rushdown. Its really your only option in a lot of cases because Repulsar Blast gets stuffed by so much stuff its embarrassing. Plus it does a shit ton of damage and blows a lot of stuff up.
This is the first time using Iron Man as anchor for me, I run Haggar/Deadpool/Iron Man, and I really think Iron Man’s best spot on this team is last. I think if you are going to run anchor Iron Man you need to be able to kill off a Repulsor Blast xx Spread xx Iron Avenger by finding some sort of combo to do afterwards (after the OTG L Smart Bombs pickup). There is one that is listed in the Iron Man combo thread that’s good for this specifically because its literally the only time you’ll want to do a combo involving c.M, S in it (besides maybe an air to air combo). I think someone once referred to it as the “air fuel” combo, it involves a c.M, S and then some air dashes and flight before a launch at the end. It seems like it would be a good combo to use in that specific instance. Also find some good incoming character mixups for him (there are some in the threads here), and learn some good resets by using the large blockstun of his air normals (j.L or j.M) after a L Smart Bomb OTG to keep opponents from teching out of the corner. Anchor Iron Man has no way to loop Repulsor in the corner for more damage since he lacks assist extensions so resets are crucial. Another issue is his bnb into Iron Avenger only hits 970k instead of one million which can be an issue if you lack another bar to spend on a Proton Cannon for a kill. Duck Strong has a better corner combo for Iron Man but he hasn’t shared it yet, I’ll have to ask him to share it in the other thread.
I mean at the end of the day Iron Man isn’t that great a character, people are either playing him for the assist or because they genuinely like the character (or both), I don’t really think anchor is that crazy of a position for him. You see the giant trash can Sentinel played anchor all the time, and at least Iron Man can OS his air normals to stop air throws and doesn’t have to worry about dying to Wesker jumping and doing Samurai Edge shots.
That being said you need to work your ass off because this character is pretty limited. You are basically playing a footsies character that has to make comebacks against derpy ass teleport anime sword bullshit.
