AZ Thread: Lots of events! Read 1st posts for upcoming AZ tourneys/events

Ido agree with you Sean. But do you(this goes to cory too) think the area has enough players to segment the scene? I personally do not think so. That’s why I, as well as Rick, always like to find the middle ground. Sure there are lots of players on both sides, but how many regulars are there that actually come out of their holes on a regular basis? Not that many IMO.

I have my doubts if both sides are truly big enough to stand on their own. Of course. I hope I am wrong

Yeah, it is a problem… this is the only way to be sure it does not happen…

Scott, I will say, from my personal experience in playing melee competitively, that 4 regulars is enough to make a scene and produce a top player. That is for my definition of a scene though and what defines a scene in your eyes may be different and I can respect that. I don’t think there is a true definition of a scene, there’s no real line of when it goes from “small” to “big.” When do gatherings become “regular?” Again, no real definition.

I think it comes down to what someone is looking to get out of their gaming. For me, I want to be competitive at MvC3 and become recognized as a top player, or at least top contender, in the country. I think that I could accomplish that if I was part of a 4-12 man group that played 2-4 times a week. That’s just me though, maybe someone doesn’t want to be as competitive as me, so they’re cool with playing once a week, that’s fine, he can show up to one of the 2-4 weekly gatherings I’m at and I would consider him as part of the scene.

Out of curiosity Scott, back in your Alpha 3 days what kind of scene did you have to work with?

I know this is a long shot, but is there any gatherings in yuma during the weekend? I’ll be out there from friday thru sunday. Pm is there is something going down. Thanks

Part 1 is uploaded. This is just the finals right now.

You might want to edit those video titles into something to help people find them easier. But awesome in any case.

Weird, I had a title when I uploaded them.

Anyhoo. Updated.

I was digging on the Cap antics right up until he and Sentinel were murdered… I like the setup.

That was fun to watch. Good shit, guys.

Armando, your point characters are fine but you were playing them more timid than usual against Scott’s Wolverine. Too much backing up and blocking, you immediately gave the momentum away each time with Magneto. Then the moment you didn’t give a fuck anymore with Cap it started working out. Dormammu definitely is your strong point though.

Two guys in my class are talking about the MvC3 WalMart tournament where a bunch of you whined about not being able to use joysticks. Who was that anyway (I forgot)?

Just semi caught up on the forum jibba jabba.

Whats this about West Side earning the right to hold the Ranbats yadda yadda. I keep seein Cory decided this, that w/ Robbs help. Cause Damn…I thought I was on the West Side team too. Was there some sort of West Side voting session that I missed. Seems like some George W. Makaveli type shit goin on there.

Also, who cares if it says DEV on it or not. That seems like a good thing all around. If it turns out well, gets good exposure ect…better for DEV. PLUS, if it really is a DEV thing people caint say shit about it, bc it’s Robb and Co.'s decision what pops off. But if it’s not a DEV thing, why wasnt there more opinions gathered than just Cory and Robb’s (Im sure there were a little more than that, Dan dont count cause he catches a ride w/ Cory lol)??

Also, Arnul…Didnt you demote Cory? ahahahaha.

SO LOOUUD! lmao…
awesome quality ed!

next time, could u stop the other stations from playin… seems only proper!
I didnt even know it was finals till like the 3rd match :frowning:

great matches guys!

Hey guys, I’m new to this community but i’d like to throw in my two cents on this east valley vs west valley debate. The Phoenix area covers more square miles than LA, granted we have better traffic but a 20-40 minute drive can mean a lot. Assuming you drive across the city from mesa to avondale you are talking probably 30 to 40 miles. Now I’m sure most of the players on here don’t drive hybrids so that is about 1 to 4 gallons of gas depending on what kind of hoopty you drive and gas is about $3.60 a gallon right now. So you are talking $3.60 to $15 to get to a tournament one way. Then the $5-10 on the the buy in and in some cases for nothing other than bragging rights and maybe a few matches?

I realize a lot of time and effort goes into the planning of these events for the most part but between $12 and $40 for a few matches that could have been played on line? Not worth it for someone looking to get into the scene. I really like the bootcamps idea and maybe we could set up an east v west rookie league? I know it’s easy to say all this when I’m not the one putting it all together but just some food for thought.

Yo Armando, that level 3 power of the whatever explosion… All I can say is

ROFL
DUDE thats stuck in my head so hard now

Hey welcome! I really really like your rookie league idea and it is making me think of ways to incorporate that idea into my future events, if your into marvel you should come out to Hazeems (sp) on friday (or is it sat now guys?) Super friendly host and a ton of different people to play on 4-6 stations! Hope to see you around!
