Sean: my a3 scene was a little allover the place. Neil basically gave me a crash course in a3 in like 2 weeks when i was here on leave(i was in the military then). We had like 20+ people that played a3 in north carolina, all together. on top of that, i was travelling to many places on the EC while i was there, all the time. Then when i came back to AZ for good, i already had a crapton of experience in a3 from fighting so many different styles, so i was ready to face the smaller az a3 scene.
You can get good with a small group (tucson proves this). I definitely agree that it’s possible with a small dedicated group. But it really depends on a few things. is everyone in that small group have skills? does everyone truly love the game? and are they willing to travel outside their comfort zone? especially on a regular basis. It can work, but it has its limitations. Online play and youtube help solve problems with online giving you random matchup experience, and youtube can help you prepare for opponents you wil lface in the future. honestly, it all just depends on the players and how they learn. Either way, bigger scene is always better IMO. lots of variety.
also, for those that dont know what the freeze glitch looks like on mvc3. look at part 2 of the finals with me vs armando. at 6:23
you can see the freeze clearly in action and it caused armando to drop the combo. shit was happening all day, everyone constantly saw it after it was pointed out to them early on in the day. before then, no one noticed it.
@ RickDawg
Thanks for the greeting. I’m going to try and make it out to events when I can but between my terrible work schedule, my fiancee and other life shit it’s probably gonna be scarce. Anyone know if anything is going on in tucson during the day on the 9th? I saw the ranbats but I’m only going to be free down there during the day.
I will be out of town. I’m not sure if Marvin (Kyoku) is planning on being there during the day at all. You might send him a PM and see. I’d give you a personal tour if I was in town since I live really close. Do you come to Tucson often?
About once every other month but it’s usually for work. I’ve just got sometime to kill during the day on the 9th so I was seeing if a local shop was running a tourney or something.
First off, somebody that has a lower rank than me, cannot demote me.
And yeah reece, If I would have went with ranbats at haz’s house, would have been a bit different, would have had you and dan help run it, but when the oppurtunity arose to have it at Lan Speed Games, it just made so much more sense, which at that point, made more sense to approach robb about it as well. The game is new, this isnt going to be the last ranbat season, just the first, and we wanna try a new format. I’ve got other plans that will be going on that I’ll get you involved in reece, no worries.
Surf-that Walmart stint was probobly dan and I, but it wasnt the fact we couldnt use them that was the issue, its that we were told by 2 different people, that we could bring our own sticks, one of them being the guy who was/did run it. Then some of the people using pads started to whine, and next thing you know he comes over and tells us he was wrong and that we actually couldnt use sticks, because it needed to be “fair” for EVERYBODY, and we might have “cheat codes” in my sticks. At that point, I got a little irrate, but mostly cause of the idiotic statement that i might have “cheat codes” in them, and the fact that what he said made so sense, he wanted it fair for everybody, which apparantly didnt include dan and i, which i brought that point up.he then just kept repeating himself, about how it needed to be fair, and ignored my comments on how that was fair for us, who never played the game on a pad, vs. all the others, who do, and how it was unfair for us…but yeah, I was pissed.
@ Armando: youve got to really learn your point characters all around. Having one one basic strategy will get you started but you need a back up plan if initial plan fails. You got to find other ways in besides teleports and obvious trijumps. EM disruptor worked for a minute but you have to learn to use it like ryus fireball in 4. I think hagger might be a good character for you. Big damage, easy combos, simple strategy: jump c or jump block and dont stop. definitely keep Dorm as anchor though…
I’ve been rocking magneto/sentinel/hulk recently. I’m pretty scrubby still though. Any advice on magneto because I feel like he is my weak point but I really like his assist and supers. I’ve been having trouble on trijumping and his flight combos.
I think training mode is a good way to learn tri-jumping and flight combos. Or just actual game. I don’t even own the game and I learned to do flight combos during games, it just takes practice.
But, his ROM infinite is hard. I practiced for ~1hour on that infinite and only at the end could I get 3 reps.
Im just sayin. You plan somethin for the community without the its input…how do you NOT expect criticism/bitching/complaining ect. Not talkin shit, but all the bitchin and moanin is your own fault.
Haha, poor corey still cant get a break lol. How’s it feel to be Robbs bitch? Also can you get an original avatar please, also i think we did a vote on casting you out corey sorry your just too embarrassing to have around!
Yeah I was talking with a few people after the tournament about something similar: winning.
They said if I did the winning thing, I would then in turn NOT do the losing thing. It’s like, "Duh, winning!"
I should of definitely pulled that out during finals… but instead I did nothing but lose.
I think you guys are going a bit too hard on Robb and Corey. They just want us to have the same experience that we see others have. Play in a real venue, real sponsorship, some legitimacy to it ya know? I saw ARKIII over the weekend and that place is a LAN center. How is lan speed games any different?
I was actually considering going out to LAN Speed games for the ranbat because of the fact that it’s an actual venue that I can get out to w/o effort. I would love to come out to Hazem’s more often, I was there one time and got demolished by Dan’s Magneto/Trish/Wesker. I was only able to make it there only b/c Ricky went but if I were to go myself, it would’ve been a trek. I used to live out there in Laveen so I know how tough it is (for me) to get from Phoenix to there. If Ranbats were there, I wouldn’t have even considered tbh.
@Angelic: try Jam Session vs Wolvie’s dive kick (as Dante on point)
Jam session is not reliable. Move is slow. He has to anticipate dive kicks. All I have to do is see it once and airblock instead, then just divekick when I get out of blockstun. On top of that, its only going to work(which it won’t work well) if I’m far away. It’s a minor inconvenience for me. And I’m also calling task assist when I superjump to pin him down When I start my assault, making it even harder. In the opportunity where I have wolvie out and I’m trying to get close with sj divekick and I don’t call/have an assist, he can easily try to dash under me then attack. I’m probably going to block it, but that’s not the point. He pinned me down and can now try to mount his offense(if my wolvie is on point, I most likely haven’t powered leilei up) and keep me from superjumping.
Yeah, the freeze constantly happened on station 1, all day. Happens every few minutes. Ever since the sentinel/event mode patch… its completely random, and I’m convinced that sometimes, when you boot the game up, it won’t happen at all, until possibly the next time you boot it up. So if true, restarting the xbox may temporarily squash the glitch. Ed had a Good idea of installing the game to the hdd to see what happens, who knows
