There are a LOT of newbies with potential at these conventions as well as the occasional player already involved in the community. Even if you’re not a big fan of anime, I urge you to attend and help some of these newbies get more involved in the more hardcore fighting game community.
Marvin/Dr Koku and Alonso will likely be in attendance with Juicebox being a maybe (He was at our last con “TaiyouCon”). I always invite some of the guys from AiaB to the Tucson conventions as well to help promote their location.
Hopefully I’ll see a few of you there.

EDIT - Reminder to Robb- GET ME DEVASTATION FLYERS! AZHP still has 9 conventions this year not including smaller events I’ll be talking about later. I had flyers for 2008 or 2009 and had the small business card flyers out for 2010. Free promo mofo!
Well then I must be blind. It wasn’t randomly dipping frames. It was dipping frames usually during entrance, supers, X-factor activation but otherwise it remained 55-60 frames during regular combat. It’s so fluid that your eye can barely tell the difference. Without the machine they used, you can’t really tell me how many frames are being dropped. That’s why they use the machine. It cannot be eyeballed.
The only dips that you can actually see are the ones that go below 30fps and like I said, I saw that one time and it just so happens that it was the same level as shown in the video (lots of stuff happening in the background). Even then, the framerate actually returned to 55-60. Did I mention X-factor in my last post? It coincides with the video in that X-factor causes a dip in the framerate. In the 2nd and 3rd fights, assists were used (and Dark Phoenix in 3rd) even then, framerate of 55-60 was maintained with very very occasional drops to 40 that you can’t notice w/o the machine AND they were split second.
lets get real aint nobody going to notice the low poll rate lag. Top players played fine on it and not one of them lost because of it. From a thread on here:
Lots of people claim they see differences between 360/PS3 versions and not one of them are to be believed. Sorry but I’ve been in this debate a bajillion times and almost always, every time someone claims they can see a difference, can’t really see the difference. It has to be a huge difference, like Bayonetta or Ghostbusters but otherwise, games like MVC3 require specialized equipment such as those used by DigitalFoundry to pinpoint the differences.
rofl whatever navi. i can see it clear as day when the frames skip, and anyone else with decent eyesight can see it too. im not the only one seeing it, this shit aint sixth sense. I dont have godlike eyesight, shit is so obvious. its been a constant complaint since fucking evo, 9 months before the game ever officially came out. and 10 months before that article came out… you can ask japan3gro, rickdawg, duke, anybody, that i noticed that shit back at evo, clear as day, and they agreed. granted only 6 characters were available, but it happened everytime when hulk assists was called. i dunno if it happens with hulk assist now in final, but its irrelevant, the shit frameskips. i dont need superman vision or a fucking computer to tell me that. its so obvious.
theres also a reason why people didnt like picking diner stage in vanilla sf4 with flame characters. frameskip problem on mainly right side of the screen. same problem in ssf4 with viper mirror on the india stage or whatever the stage is called with the elephants. massive frame skip. it was even called out on final round commentary. but i forgot, we are seeing things, we have to have a computer to notice that shit. gtfo
as far as the lag, everyone knows its there. but most organizers dont want to invest more money into ther venues since they already had ps3’s since the t5dr days. which is understandable. Everyone knows the lag is there, everyone knows the frame skip is garbage, even the organizers, its just they are forced to deal with it at certain events due to logistics. it may be 1-2 frames max. you aint really feeling that, but compound that with lag on some random monitors some events/gatherings use and it starts to become a problem. on top of that, even if you dont feel it, it changes outcomes. i might not feel the lag, but that 1 frame can determine if my dp wins or loses vs another attack. but i guess that isnt a big deal…
bah wthell. 3 marvel/ssf4 tourneys on the same weekend? wth. az remix, aiab tourney, and now the anime tourney. bleh =(
Perhaps Ed can reschedule for next week during the MvC3 tourney? It would make it easier for the PHX/Mesa/Tempe guys.
I know the AZHP one kinda did too. We’ve had the date for roughly 6 months, but I just finalized the tournament schedule today which is why I posted it so late.
I’m going to start posting about stuff we run months in advance.
Also Keith, remember when I talked with you a few months ago when you first started doing the Euphoria Gaming, I mentioned you’re always welcome to hit me up to confirm a date isn’t conflicting with one of the conventions. Since I know all the dates for the conventions 6-9 months in advance, we need to start communicating better so we don’t cross schedule.
I plan to main a DLC character, how do you guys (Con tournament, AIAB tournament, Euphora tournament) plan to handle DLC?
I hope its like Blazblue tournaments, they make sure its available and allowed.
AZHP has (or will have) all characters unlocked and DLC characters downloaded on all of our fighting game PS3s with updates installed for both MvC3 and BB:CS.
We make sure that all of the games go thru full updates on our systems before we do a convention.
As for the allowed part, we’re not banning any characters from MvC3 or BB:CS as of right now and I doubt we will.
Our rulesets (minus MvC3, I need to get that up) are HERE
the reason why I brought that up is because in a lot of comparison threads I’ve been to, there have been cases where both versions are exactly on point, the proof is right there all written out, yet we will have people come in and say 360 version is better when clearly both versions are the same. People will say 360 has better fps, lighting, and all that garbage when the technical analysis proved it was the same. I have to go by the analysis and the analysis is pretty consistent with what I’ve seen.
and im telling you that you are blind as a fucking bat if you cant see the differences. but once again, navi is always right and 1billion people are wrong
I’ve noticed a difference between the two versions. The PS3 version is noticeably less saturated than the 360 version (I think that’s the case for a lot of games?) and yes, there was a drop in frame rate while I was playing. I’m not deep enough into the game for it to affect my execution yet, however.
This is after being exposed to the PS3 version multiple times (Including having my friend bring his PS3 to my house and hook it into my TV, which provided a pretty direct comparison), not just one night.
dont get me wrong. its not a bad version or anything. but the difference is really there, and when theres assist action going on, it becomes a little harder to follow. and who knows what other problems happen. in vanilla sf4, the game did infact drop inputs when there was massive frame skip on diner stage. im willing to bet the same in mvc3.
just as an F.Y.I. its looking like if you got the special edition of mvc3, you can get jill and shuma tonight if you input the code. they are not yet available to purchase otherwise. Also note it may take multiple tries. Lots of people are reporting getting them the first try, alot of others are reporting that it simply fails to install, but some have gotten them even after it fails, so be dilligent!
Also, Im not saying that any drops in framerate arent noticable to the naked eye, but i have both the ps3 and 360 version, and play on both, and i havent noticed any difference in gameplay. I have seen the ps3 version slow a bit, but as stated it was on a specific stage, and it was during a super, at which point i wasnt doing any inputs. Now, if as scott said it causes the game to drop inputs, thats gonna be a huge factor, but at this point that hasnt been proven and is pure speculation, and the dropped frames do nothing to effect gameplay. That being said, I am disapointed that the ps3 has any dips at all considering the hardware is 10x better than the 360’s hardware. I’ve owned a 60gb ps3 since launch, and have had ZERO issues with it, however Ive owned a 360 for a little over a month now, and ive already had the game freeze up on me multiple times, sometimes at just the dashboard screen, and one of my US B ports isnt working now, not too mention one of the times i turned it on, it gave me a 3 rings of death, but i turned it off and back on, and thankfully they went away.
of course I can see the differences. But, like Digital Foundry wrote, it’s not serious enough that I have to stop playing on PS3 copies altogether. The “random” 60 > 40fps dip appears as a slight stutter, is barely noticeable and happens during times there’s no input. I reported one incident where it dropped below 30 and that was on the airport stage with two of the biggest characters on Xfactor. It seems to me it’s just a problem w/ the airport stage. That’s where the biggest dips were shown in the video.
Ultimately, I think the problem comes from V-sync on the PS3. If they took it out then I’m sure it’d run just the same as the 360 version. V-sync is known to cause framerate drops b/c it has to wait before it refreshes the screen. On the 360 version, in place of the stuttering, you see screen tears instead.
I know what you’re talking about. Happened to me on the PC version and only that stage. Still though, I haven’t experienced any input drops on MvC3, not even during the huge <30fps dip on the airport stage. I guess if you can say that being shocked causes dropped inputs then yeah lol
im not saying there is input drops. but its a cause for concern, like cory said. at this point, in certain scenarios, mainly when calling assists depending on stage and characters, its an annoyance when trying to follow the action. is it unplayable? not at all. but its annoying. i mean, if i was presented with both versions in front of me, i would always choose 360 version, why deal with it if you dont have to? its fucking lame that the ps3 suffers from it, theres no excuse not to. and you are right, v-sync causes the problem. v-sync takes up too much horsepower among other things. im guessing they added it cuz screen tearing was really bad on ps3 and they couldnt figure out how to get rid of it or were too lazy. game does feel unfinished afterall.
