There is still risk involved though. It just depends on how heavily that console was used before the tourney. Like, say it was someone’s home console they decided to contribute, yeah, that consoles through. PS3 is just leagues above Xbox in reliability. So much so, that you can guarantee it.
Besides, I’ve only seen one massive slowdown and that was Saturday when we had Sentinel and Dormammu (w/ Sent X-factor) on the SHIELD stage. It seems to me that there has to be a lot of factors before it even affects gameplay. Personally, I play both versions (got the 360 one) fairly regularly and have only seen one drop and that was Saturday.
Well you are blind or something, cuz it happens constantly. Hell it constantly happened in the videos from that srk frontpage article when discussing it. The player demonstrating frame drops wasnt calling assists and it was with smaller characters, yet it was randomly dipping 20 frames?
I constantly saw it with zero on friday at hazems on the ps3 setup when watching tsumuji play, and it happened with no assists. Its a much bigger problem when you deal with the problem when fast characters are involved, its much harder to follow. Pretty hard to follow a fast character like wolverine when he has an assist out then trying to see if he’s going for overhead, or low. Its been a huge complaint among the entire th scene.
So we just deal with bad framerates and low poll rate lag for the sake of console reliability? Even tho no major tourney has had any real issues with trod and still continue to use 360… Awesome!
I think were talking about the willingness to carry around a desktop.
If desktops are far more powerful and waaaay more cost efficient… why get a laptop?
If people aren’t willing to spent the extra 30 minutes total of packing it up and setting it up to stream an event that is going to last hours… why bother at all?
If you had a choice to bring a fat sony crt or a flat screen lcd monitor and lug it around. Which would you choose? A fucking flat panel lol. Convenience. Why lug bigger shit around and waste more time and energy when i can use something compact. And it can take up less space. Convenience my friend
yo dude, crts are the shit man.
They can go a stupid high resolution and they never lag or drop or tear or anything man!
million x million res at million hz!
I see your point and I agree that if we were going to travel a lot a laptop would be far more convenient,
but I was thinking more about saving money. Getting the most power for the buck, and my views of transporting a desktop are biast because in my eyes that is always an option.
Just FYI, I actually didn’t ship my desktop to AZ, I put it on a plane with me as carry on
LOL
Dana, hope you’re having fun with those Doom loops, I practiced them for about 3 hours yesterday and I still don’t have it 100%.
Also, this whole keepaway thing is incredibly foreign to me. Anyone have any pointers on where to start? I mainly try firing projectiles at a certain distance with Doom but when I get backed into a corner I get wrecked.
I dunno what Doom has and im not TOO great at keep aways. Im not 100% sure if this works with doom, but Ryu can tiger knee motion to shoot a hadoken in the middle of the screen. This prevents opponents from ducking under, or normal jumping over. Either they eat it, block it, or super jump, giving you a chance you catch them with anything…
In dooms case, i know you can jump back and use C to shoot his annoying gun. this will prevent people from getting in as most characters can BARELY duck under it without getting tapped.
It looks like I can arrange for a gathering late this month or early next. The place available to me could hold up to 75 people and is located in south Tempe. Only own a couple setups so we’d have to have some people willing to bring their own stuff. Could likely get the place for the duration of a day and at no cost to anyone who went. The only catch is that it has to be on a weekend. Please let me know which dates have the most interest and I can set about setting something up, also want to be sure not to conflict with anything already setup.
It’s pretty easy once you realize that getting another rep is all dependant on how fast you hit the M on the way up, and how long you wait to hit M on the way down
i have a setup i can provide (ASUS,ps3,game,stick) i would just need a ride to the location. saturdays are good with me. cant do sundays cuz i work. I just suggest not doing it april 2nd because most of us will be heading to AIAB for the tournament.
@at tsumuji. about dooms loop. what angelic said. you have to time the M attacks. its more important to time the one going down. if you do it to soon, they will flip out. if you do it to late, you wont have time to land, and do the cr. M. You should take a quick look at the doom thread on here. there are some really good combos on there, and lots of videos and pointers.
Yeah, I figured out the dependencies on the j.M after awhile. I still get greedy every now and then and hit it too early for the first one and too late for the second. Gotta land them in a real match too. Strangely, my entire team feels weaker at the moment without X-23, that can’t be good. Practice makes perfect, I guess.
late this month will be your best best, april has mvc3 stuff going on almost every weekend. AIAB is gthe 2nd, and mvc ranbats start on april 17th. so april 9th and 10th and april 23rd and 24th are the only weekends available in april, and you dont want to saturate the month. The scene is hungry for a tournament, why dont you hold a MVC3 tourney or something? there are plenty of casual gatherings going on around town, if you got a place that can hold 75 people, why not use the room for a tournament and take advantage of the space.
