Ugh. Spent 3 hours in training mode today practicing a new combo, then the moment I get online to try it I can’t pull it off. Maybe I should blame it on lag because there IS a link there, but damn it’s pissing me off that I can’t do it.

I remember my friend telling me about MK1 and I completely ignored him for a month because there was no way any game could be better than the original Street Fighter II. Then we were at PV Mall and my friend dragged me to Pocket Change and I saw MK1.
I stuck with the series for years. I even took the bus out to some arcade in Glendale that had MK3 before anywhere else in AZ. I also stood in line for an hour to play MK4 at the loc test at Castles. MK4 was the death of the series for me though.
I’m really, really hoping MK9 is solid. I will buy it day one (something I did not do with MvC3), but I won’t be surprised if I trade it in on day two. I want the game to be really good, but it’s MK. I know two people testing the game, but one I have no faith in at all, and the other would tell me it’s good just to get me to play it, so I have to wait until April 19 to be sure if it’s solid.

MK9 seems like the perfect opportunity to take advantage of peoples’ rose-tinted nostalgia glasses. I’m not saying it’s going to be a bad game or anything, but you’ve gotta wonder when peoples’ arguments in favor of a game are based solely on anecdotes of childhood wonder. Many of the people who picked up SF4 because they mashed in SF2 as kids have already moved on to the next Call of Duty game, I wonder if that’ll happen for MK9?
