You silly fuckers can waste all the time you want learning MvC3. I know where the scene is headed, and I’m already there… waiting… learning. Once the MvC3 craze is over, SSFIV will be boring again, so you’ll all move to the real game that we should all be playing: Castlevania Judgement. Get some.
Arnold is funny, dont hate son! rules were booty, pad only, no sticks, single elimination AND it was played on both 360 and ps3 at the same time…thats right.
we couldnt use sticks becuase they had “cheat codes” according to the manager and it needed to be “fair” for everybody, although apparantly being fair for me didnt count, just fair for the people who already play on pad. And no arnold, you wouldnt have won, dan for the first time in tournament history, got both 1st and 2nd place, thats right 1st AND 2nd place, gotta love these proffesional tournaments.
but i can say, I got a new 42 inch TV in my room, and all it cost me was entry fee and dinner for a friend.
LMAOL, I can only imagine the shit people say when they see Dan enter a tournament…
The real scene is gonna be on that mk9 shit son! cant wait, i wish they had some loc tests or some demos somehwere by now though, kinda scares me that all we have seen, is what they want us to. No hands on demos as far as i know yet, it launches in less than 2 months, when marvel was less than 2 months to launch, the game had already been playable at a multitude of events.
Im just hoping after waiting so long for what may be a playable Mk, they get it right.
i know exactly who you’re talking about. he said the same shit when i said i needed sentinel. i wanted to choke the shit out of him and his phag0t ass friends. that kid FEARS a half way decent sent. he thinks he’s fucking bad ass hot shit cuz he won the scottsdale midnight launch tourney against a bunch of no bodies. don’t worry those type of people will be left in the dust when the game evolves.
I don’t know man, there’s no way MK9 can give me the satisfaction of waiting 30 seconds once I get hit with a combo: . Seriously, that combo starts at 0:47 and ends at 1:15. Who doesn’t want to watch a mini movie in between fighting? This game is the shit, and we all need to jump ship on MvC3 to give CJ the respect it deserves.
What’s that? 30 seconds too short? Check 1:42 for a combo that ends at 2:20. Mini breaks in fighting games is where it’s at… I’m just sayin’. Maybe MK9 will have friendships that can be done mid-round. You know, Scorpion can setup a table with chairs, bust out the good china, fill a kettle, serve two spots of tea, and chat civilly with his opponent a tad before the round continues. A good 45 seconds would be good. (I know, I know… 60 seconds or GTFO.)
Oh shit, I was about to dog on Rob for getting over Marvel 3 too fast and then moving onto MK9, but then I noticed that it was actually Cory! Gettin’ all excited for Devastation, eh? I was downtown today for the Matsuri festival and passed by the convention center, I hope it’s there again.
I guess people dont know that ive been helping run it for the last, 5 or so years? Ive been going since year one, and helped run tournies then (still waiting for my damn guile figure robb!) and actually go to meetings throughout the year, look at the venue, help give input on artwork/designs etc. i am part of the Dev crew homie. everybody seems so surprised when i make dev comments and seem to act like im guessing, or assuming things, when in fact im directly involved. advertisement muji, wherever i post or have posted throughout the years on SRK, now bears the Dev dates and info, and i want dev to be bigger each year, as it has been.
as far as mk9 goes, Ive been looking forward to that since before mvc3 launched. Im not a huge fav of the mvc series, never have been, I dont really care for mvc2, my learning to play it was simply due to my love for cvs2, and the fact that wherever there were cvs gatherings, marvel was being played as well, and cvs2 matches last like an hour each it feels like, so i got bored and would play marvel between cvs rotations. mvc3 is fun, but just as a break from sf4, if mk9 is solid, it will be my game of choice. now if mk9 sucks, i dont know what ill do but be forced to play a game im not totally into due to the sheer number of people playing it. I will still be playing mvc3, with a gusto but my time will be split between the 2.
Apologies if it seemed rude of me to ignore your previous hard work, I remember over the last year you advertised Dev in your signature but you didn’t go as far as to ditch that Transfomers avatar for it. Your posts just don’t look the same without it.
I don’t care for MK9, frankly. Something about MK in general feels choppy and unrefined to me, and I could care less about the flashy gore factor, I just want a solid engine. Chalk that up to inexperience, but whatever. I honestly have no idea what the future holds as far as my ability to play these new fighting game releases. I doubt I’ll get too into 3rd Strike Online, but SF x Tekken is intriguing. And Marvel and Super will be around for quite some time. I can’t see myself playing more than 2 games at a time, however. I played SF4 at Gameworks for shits and giggles tonight and discovered that I still really enjoy the game, I wonder if, for us '09ers, it’ll have that special nostalgia factor that you all get from your first fighting games. Everyone’s always harping about CvS2, I wonder if SF4’s going to be the same for us.
4 AM musings, bored at computer and can’t sleep.
MK has felt choppy and unrefined because its a choppy and unrefined series. All that franchise ever really had was a surprisingly enjoyable movie adaptation, a nostalgia factor, and gore. Maybe MK9 will actually be fun to play, but it will take something better than what is currently out for it to get my attention in the least. And the lack of public demonstrations thus far indicate that even the people making the game don’t have much faith in it.
I’ll definitely be taking part in 3S online whenever it comes around, but I am sure the lack of a real tourney scene for it will make it a bit of a sideline attraction for me. But I do think that since SF4 brought so many new players to the genre, it will definitely have a long lasting appeal for those that it brought in. I still like it a lot more than MvC3, and will probably still love it for years to come.
And as much as I understand the skill involved in Tekken, SF x Tekken is going to have to be something special for me to stay awake while watching it.
The funniest part of this post is the part where you claim you play video games.
There is no way this quote could have come from someone who grew up in the arcades, watched the evolution of MK, and sunk money and time into the franchise. No freakin’ way.
I remember the first time the Sunnyvale Golfland had a loc test for MK1. My eyes just about shot out of my head. I lined up behind what seemed like a sea of people to play. It did not matter how many people were in line, you queued up, and when it was your turn, your eyes popped and your mouth watered. The evolution through UMK3 brought tears with each release. Then, the real tears starting flowing, as the franchise was raped into… blah. If MK9 is able to return to the pre-MK4 (god that game was horrible) goodness, I will be a fan for life. Sadly, I don’t think this is going to happen.
I could still play UMK3 right now and have a blast, I LOVE that game. I never did get that run-crouch-jab-run-jab-throw shit tho…
umk3 is the shit
^game is mad fun to watch. i never played it on a competitive level, but if MK9 is just as good i def will
I laughed when I saw the post about Atomic’s tourney… I am glad to see that people understand the gaming community. Twits.
I will be dragging along some PS3s for MK to the Ranbats when it comes out so people have the option to tinker with that as well.
im just curious who won atomic comics tourney.
Us geezers should throw down on some umk3 sometime, that game was the shiz. As far as the unrefined and choppy comment, of course it is coming from somebody who is used to sf4, at the time that shit was cutting edge, they invented the mocap type stuff, and at the time it was groundbreaking. Hell, mk1 was the first fg I believe to have infinites, johny cage and raiden j.hp,j.hp,j.hp in the corner was too good. Or j.hp,j.hp shadow kick with johny cage.
I remember MK1 blowing my mind as well at first… when I was like 10. Outside of the now memorable, quotable aspects of the game, the only version of MK that anyone seems to even remotely take seriously is UMK3. For a series with that many installations, that is a pretty bad track record.
But I have been an SF fanboy since I first laid eyes on it, so I’ve always been a bit biased. I’ll be checking up on MK9 as it comes out, but I am not holding any hope for it.
@Corey:
Just because I only started playing competitively with SF4 doesn’t mean that I haven’t been playing fighting games for as long as I can remember. I have very hazy memories of playing SF1 at the arcade in my area. Even back when MK1 came out and blew every kids mind with its violence, I thought that animating digitized photographs looked like a lazy way to make a game. Not counting how that method of animation affected the actual game play, it certainly made it age much worse on a visual level than games that took the time to draw their sprites.
Years later, I was always going back to SF2 with friends, but MK1, not so much.
it was the dude who mouthed off to us. wesker, hulk, i forget. …cap’n maybe.
if atomic actually ran the tourney correctly and let losers go up and do the tourney correctly top 4 could’ve been easily different. also the dlp they used is ULTRA dark and blurry so wesker players just picked dark stages all day long. i should stayed and played but lunch with my parents > scubby atomic.
