I almost want to keep it a surprise for the next time I get to play against you, but fuck it. I am going Spencer, Wolverine, Akuma. I still haven’t used it much in an actual match, but I really like how each character plays individually and there seems to be a lot of synergy between all three.
Both Wolverine and Akuma assists (berserker, and tatsu) help Spencer move in and combo from far with his arm grabs. I still don’t know how Spencer’s assists really work with Wolverine or Akuma, but his wallbounce assist helps extend combos for both of them.
So far, almost all of their supers seem to DHC well into one another with a few combination being exceptions. And their Team Hyper combo is decent. Does mediocre damage from far, but does a shit load as a point blank punish.
And then when Spencer dies, Wolverine Akuma is still a really strong combination. So yeah, hopefully learning this team will actually keep my interest in the game.
if spencer is on point, you shouldnt worry too much about his assists. spencer is tough to block at times. using bionic arm to pull yourself across the screen while calling out an assist to confuse the block is really dirty. plus he hits hard. also that super he has, is incredible. it punishes everything.
as far as team supers are concerned, 99.9% of the time, its not worth ever using
Spenser’s maneuverability and relatively simple yet fun combos was the big reason I went to him as point man. But those assists give him great options to combo while trying to move in.
As for the THC, I am just glad it functions. I am much more concerned with strong team synergy than I am with playing any specific characters in this game. So, any extra functionality is always welcome.
I’m still trying to get my final team down. Right now I’m rolling:
Team ZIMA.
Zero Iron Man Amaterasu
It has been working pretty well for me but I have been having a lot of trouble with keeping the pressure on without getting randomly poked into a combo that kills Zero during my mix-ups. It has been a lil frustrating but I don’t want to quit on Zero and my team. Having said that, does anyone have any tips or suggestions (strategies, setups, or new team members) that could help me out?
I’ll be on later at night throughout the week so if anyone wants/has a lobby up, I would love to join and get started on developing more in depth strategies.
and btw:
@Armando - I tried to join your lobby the other night but I got the wonderful “Failed to Join Session” error.
It’s XXXX, Zero, Sentinel for me. Though I think Sentinel is there largely for comeback factor, plus his assist works really well with Zero for me. I’m undecided on the 3rd character for now, I’m thinking many characters, been toying around with Dante at Hazem’s, lately been learning Magneto a bit, maybe will learn Wesker.
If y’all gots some advice for me, I’d be happy to hear.
hahahaahah sounds good, as long as your playing a team you like the wins will eventually follow…
when you become more familiar with your team youll start to full comprehend all the little quirks that it has to offer and how to make all three of them work on point as well…
if you havent all ready try watching some of those japanese matches on the front page of SRk, some of their teams look god awful but they play their teams well…
Those jap announcers make me enjoy spectating this game a lot more. But yeah, I spent all weekend trying out the entire roster. This team at least makes some basic sense to me in terms of how it functions, so I figure that is a good place to actually move forward from.
And goddamn, just putting together the optimal DHC combos took forever.
Dana: Thats good stuff on tryin to find those DHC combos. It is very valuable to know what DHC’s into what. Whether it be continuing a combo to finish off an annoying character (Sent, Phoenix, Logan, ect…) or get your bleeding point character out and your next one in SAFELY.
Incase you’re not 100% sold on akuma on your team, chun also works extremely well. Plus, having her in level3 XF is extremely retarded. Her frame data is beyond solid for rushing down though with lots of great jump cancelable normals and instant overheads.
yeah I am. it looks fuckin pretty!! so many possibilities. I like all except the button change… feelin hella scrubby at all times… well… that and lack of rolling or quick getup. aka free otg combos. xfactor is bullshit too. its marvel’s prolonged Ultra. I dont agree with it @ all… but all in due time I guess…
yeppers. found some shit recently too =X
i can just hear raff screamin “THE BOOT!! THE BOOT!!”
This and this!! I hella agree. I keep missing shit in my combos n when i try to assist with a1 i forget n get wonky shit n viceversa…
@ yer P.S. kk. i woulda showed up at the BB thing but i got screwed at werk. aka didnt get monday off. n couldnt call or message ya cuz a) computer was boo boo. and b) i couldnt find my phone for almost a week… (was wedged in between my daughters car seat and seat in my truck.) fun times… when can we meet? and where?
everyone else. its all about weapon-x and viper/deadpool/sent >=]
Sabre: Thanks for playing MVC3 with me last night. Man that game is freaking crazy as hell. Thanks for showing me what’s up. I need to use my assists more often. I went into training mode and practiced the hell out of my Spencer combos and tried to learn some more Chris. I was working on some combos in the corner and working on the Spencer claw loop thing. I got about 2 reps of the loop into the sa into my normal corner combo. I was finding ways to combos his hyper after it and then shifting to Captain to add the DHC. I really like this game a lot. I really don’t see this “scrub friendly” bs. I was getting my ass kicked the f*ck in.
What do you not like about MODOK? I’ve found that he can be played as keep away, run away or rush down.
I can play very successful keep away against anyone who doesn’t have a teleport, and I know how to do MODOK’s rush down, but I don’t know the game well enough to know when to use his rush down effectively. It’s definitely there though.
So it seems to me like you can play MODOK pretty much any way you want.
I don’t think this game is easy to learn, but that’s coming from a 3D fighting game background. Having to cancel into a cancel into a cancel into an instant air attack into a cancel into a super cancel is not easy for me.
I have an easier time doing taunt into Jet Upper, 1 frame links in Tekken. But again, I’m used to 3D fighter mechanics and MvC3 is extremely foreign in comparison.
It’s undeniably easier to work gatling combos into muscle memory than 1 frame links, so I’m sure no one will have on going issues as far as execution is concerned. The game does feel extremely different than any of capcom’s other games though (even mvc2). It feels more like an arksys game. Which is probably why so many people (those who are familiar with these kinds of game engines) feel it is easy to pick up. I can definitely see how someone could have problems jumping in though… I think it’s mostly training your eyes haha. You have to be all over the place.
