I’ve been playing fighters in the arcade a lot longer than you, over 10 years. I also have a lot more experience running tournaments than you. You right a $.25 changes the mindset from free, but also the mindsets changes every time you increase the pot.

Do you think the mindset is the same in $10 MM compared to a $1000 MM?

Those aren’t exact details, they don’t include where you staying, what time you are leaving, who you are staying with etc. Those small details could determine whether a person enters or not. For example say I win, but find out after the fact Arnul is rooming with me and hate Arnul or I find Haz is leaving on a Wednesday night but I work nights and can’t get off of work that night. That changes everything completely. Those small details change everything.

you have been around the fighting scene longer than i have. so you certainly have the knowledge on what it takes to make a successful tournament happen. but the mindset, I cannot agree. I’ve only been around since the release of vanilla sf4, and happen to understand that the altered mindset doesn’t come from the money. Dan losing to Sean at ranbat, and Dan losing at Dev '10 was the exact same salty mindset. so IMO it isn’t the quantity of the of the pot, but the fact the you’ve won it. It’s arguable, but that’s my opinion

it should be the same. you should be winning more than you put in.

and again, we will keep revising the details. i’ve given the basic rundown of what the prize would be. we will have solid details this week. overall, you got the idea. win, and you’re going to EVO.

You’re right people’s mindset are their own. Many things factor in for than just money. Whether the mind set is changed or not depending on that amount of money can be argued.

I’m not trying to put down your special event, I’m just saying giving some feedback. People take posting your opinion about something as personal attack that’s not the intention.

He said that because he was told to go talk to an old school SF player and he responded that he is one. I don’t think anybody should be calling him out b/c he’s asking valid questions. Questions which Marticio is handling pretty well within what details he has to share at the time.

I don’t think that it was small either. The answers made a big difference in what I thought about the tourney and how things were to go down should someone win. It’s like, “you get the chance to compete for an executive chef position at the grand hotel and resort!” you win, and then come to find out, you don’t actually get the head chef position, but in fact the sous chef position. It’s an important position, but it pays less and it’s less prestigious.

I was going to say something about this but these days I’m not very chatty online (If I am I’m usually discussing technical stuff). But anyways, Devastation came to my mind when the subject of who is doing what for the community was questioned. I also see AZHP and Jacob doing their part for the tourney scene as well. I honestly don’t understand how it got skipped over.

You might not hear this a lot from other people but personally I’m appreciative of what the Dev team is doing. I’ve had a lot of fun coming out and outside of the Mortal Kombat thing, tourneys ran pretty smooth and there’s consistent big turnouts. If it wasn’t for Dev, I wouldn’t have known about Lan Speed. I think it’s a nice place to play games. I own a quad core so PC games aren’t that attractive but them having a PS3 available is quite nice. I am NOT a big fan of consoles so having that capability to play elsewhere is great.

On the subject of nobody not caring about the scene. I don’t think that’s true at all. We got Haz, Dev, Jacob, AZHP doing tourneys and gatherings are all over the place. Most likely if one wanted to play casuals during the week then someone is hosting somewhere. 10 years ago, all I can remember was either Tommy’s, Metrocenter or Rickdawg’s tourneys on weekends. There was Desert Sky where we played MvC and MvC2. Somewhere down the line we did Golfland for Soul Calibur. I’m not saying that’s all there was, but certainly the scene has come up bigtime since then. I think that it should be an achievement for Arizona, not the other way around.

No man maybe what I said wasn’t clear but i said from the people that HOST. I didn’t say we do everything come ooooon. And my talk was pointed to Jacob not to u. I just posted to as a replay to you cause u r the only one who is getting worked up for him on here againest everyone and they didn’t even promise him to go and like u said even u didn’t go so why would you or him even get mad about people not showing up if they did not give him a word that they will show up to his place.

I’d say that the Haz & Annie part wasn’t this important to mention right along beside the money thing. It was just not comfy for me to be honest I mean all the married gamers including u knows that our women have nothing to do with what we r doing and if it wasn’t for us “The Husbands” they wouldn’t have anything to do with gaming. Just real talk

I have nothing againest Jacob except for 2 things:

1- Don’t promise a stream untill you really have one running
2- You need to get to know the people and go to them gatherings if you want them to come to ur place “why u think anyone that doesn’t know u this much will go to your place?!!” and you were mad over it too. Get the picture

looking at this from only a player perspective. $17 + you win = free evo trip. Uhm Id much rather pay 17 freakin dollars to go to evo, rather than spend a few hundred bucks.

i understand what mike is trying to say, i get it. Depending on the size of the turnout, just taking the cash in a 70/20/10 format might pay for evo in itself and maybe cash leftover for food/gambling/etc. It makes sense. But at the same time, if no one enters, then the prize pot is low and no one goes to evo.

The incentive with what hazem is trying to do, is no matter the size of the tourney, you are covered. I think that in itself is really nice. If 10 people enter, hey you are still paid for. Sometimes having a FIXED prize payout is nicer than a random pot payout where you have no idea what the prize is until you are already there and know exactly how many people signed up.

i really get the questions. but coming from a player perspective, this is a pure win situation. You know exactly what you are getting, no matter the turnout.

I dunno, i guess i look at it like how paying 17bucks isnt worth it? I would love to pay 17 bucks to go to evo. That is a lot of financial stress off my back.

Its like the evo online tourney. winner gets full paid trip to evo. paid 5 bucks. and there were way more people signed up that having a pot payout would be a bigger prize. but no one cared. they saw, 5bucks, and guaranteed trip to vegas. Whereas, if you just give them money, they may not go to evo, cuz they may blow the money on stupid shit or really poor at planning a trip(sucking at getting plane tickets, reserving hotel rooms, etc).

People are bad with money, I’m sure some people here, if they entered, and just took the money if they won, might not even go to evo, which isnt the point. Haz wants more AZ representation at evo. I know I do too.

as for jacob tourney, fools gotta understand. A lot of people in the scene dont even know jacob, aside from the older crowd. Most people might not be comfortable going over there. Another factor is, maybe people dont want to do 2 tourneys in one weekend, every weekend. Plus, thats 2 ws tourneys within 24 hours. And like i said, i personally wasnt going anywhere that night due to personal issues. but plans changed, armando called me and offered a car pool to arnul’s, so i went. He wasnt going to jacob’s so i obviously wasnt going there. Plus, I really didnt feel like dealing with tourney stress. I just wanted to chill and let some frustrations out, thats all.

Mike and walter are seriously having a legit and valid conversation. Mike doesn’t have the time to get out to a lot of things so this is a perfect way to get his questions out and I think its giving walter so awesome things to keep in mind. If mike could I’m sure he would be talking to walter face to face about this.

So with that said…armando talking against what he is saying cause u think what he is saying is just negativity cause u are thinking with a closed mind. Walter is really seeing his points and taking them in to consideration. He isn’t seeing it as negativity.

And gunrobot- because u only know him by posts, u shouldn’t be saying anything. What does ur post really acomplish?

there hasnt been any misleading towards this tournament other than the hotel issue. I made that clear now. It’s not a hotel room of your own. That would be Gdlk if we can make that happen. maybe it can… depending on the amount of people entering. For now, the rules are very clear: “executive position!!”

Love the idea guys, I would suggest that the prize be 1) Room + Trip + Registration like you have it (but need details of when your leaving and the smaller stuff of course to make sure it works out with the winner. Or if the person winning either already has their own room/cannot room with or leave with Haz+ Arnold to make it “Help pay for your own room/entry” or something along those lines that way its still going to someone who is planning on going to Evo, but in this case would make their trip way easier. Just a thought, either way that’s awesome! good shit guys.
