Robb: I’m guessing due to the tight schedule 3sO will not be included among the official games?

Ninja edit: found what I was looking for

From your website about the rules for SSF4AE: The winner may change his Ultra Combo but must do so before the loser chooses his character

This is an awful rule. Winner should just be able to change ultra without this stupid stipulation.

Jesus Christ not this shit again.

Hey man, he is asking for feedback, and I am giving it. You can change order and assists in marvel, but you can’t change ultra in AE without being psychic. It is a pretty bad rule.

From EVO’s rules: “Winner may change ultra, but has to pick ultra first after loser picks character.”

http://evo2k.com/player-guide/additional-rules/

You may not have been around but this has been argued since Super has been out. Similar arguments going back to 3 strike maybe even alpha. As Gunrobot pointed out this is the rule in other tournaments as well.

I understand why people do and don’t like it but it’s really nothing new. That was my point.

Before I comment directly, everyone should just go double-blind every time to avoid ANY counter-picking

So, there are four ways to do this, besides the Deus Ex Machina of Double-Blind:

  1. Winner cannot change his Ultra
  2. Winner can change his Ultra but must pick his character AND Ultra before the loser selects his character
  3. Winner can change his Ultra after the loser picks his character but before the loser selects his UItra
  4. Winner can change his Ultra after the loser picks his character and his UItra

That is it, no other combinations are available.

So, Evo’s rule was number 3, meaning:

  • Winner picks Character
  • Loser picks Character
  • Winner picks Ultra
  • Loser picks Ultra

Now, the whole reason that the loser gets to change his character is to have a chance to counter-pick/adjust his options… remember, he just lost. It would seem counter to the idea of an adjustment if the winner, ultimately, has the last chance to adjust before the game. It would only make sense that the winner select his character and Ultra before the loser does simply to offer the chance to counter. Sure, the winner can still change his Ultra, however, the momentum of change is ultimately decided by the loser, as it should be.

The first-round winner always has the advantage as he gets to have the last counter-pick in the set.

Personally, I could care less as 95% of the time no one is going to balk at the situation. Most of you are going to sit down and select who you are going to select and with what Ultra and that is the end of it. For the few that it really matters for, this system is the most fair.

Further opinions?

Oh, I would not say that… schedule-shmedule. I just do not like most of the people that play 3S.

Kidding.

Mostly. mostly.

We are working with Capcom, as I mentioned before, and should have an update on that post-gamescon.

Ok I talked to my friend, he is down to host some AE tonight, we have two sticks, one ps3, one copy of AE and Marvel, but only one TV (Phillips 48’) so if anyone is down, text me at 602-295-0829, my name is mike for those of you that dont know. Yo Robb I just had some questions about the H:Reach event… Is there going to be stations to plug in Astros? Is it going to be Zealot or Arena Zealot?

Great questions!

First, the headsets: we are working with both Creative and Astro to secure headsets and the mixers so that you can use their own. Barring an announcement to the contrary, you will need to supply your own headset and mixer. You will be allowed to use the optical connection on the Xboxes or, if it sounds good enough for you, the stereo jack on the monitors.

Second, the map: it is vanilla Zealot, disc-version.

Let me know if I can answer anything else and I am going to add the headset item to the FAQ, thanks again.

I was pointing out that EVO’s current rule is in line with brainpipe’s suggestion and is contrary to Dev’s rule.

Hey Jedirobb, I was wondering if you were able to add Heroes of Newerth into the mix, I know S2Games is listed a supporter but HoN isn’t on the registration list. It’d be great to know with a good amount of time ahead since getting a team 5 together and practicing on short notice isn’t easy. Excited to see SC2 there though.

You are telling me!

I can only say hang on… but it would not hurt to scouting a squad out though.

:dp: :hp:

My bad I guess I should read things first.

I actually miss read Brainpipes post, yeah Robb your rule is stupid. Rule number 3 is the best.IMO
either way it’s been debated a million times.

The funny thing is very rarely do people catch this stuff while playing in tournaments. People which ultras when the aren’t suppose too but during tournaments there is so much going on that it is missed. I saw it a numerous times at devastation last year but it’s up to the players to call it before the match start. Most people just don’t know the rules.
