Rick - I don’t know how many players you have regularly, but this season we awarded points based on number of participants. It rewards players that had to fight through larger brackets and decreases the amount of points won if the bracket ends up much smaller than anticipated. This is what our point chart looked like:
We also had a situation last season with multiple players running away with 1st place. What we’ve done this year is have a regular season and a Top 8 single elimination playoff tournament. The playoffs work just like the NBA. The Top 8 players are matched up based on seed:
I actually prefer this format because those players who have no possibility of catching 1st place still have a chance to make the playoffs and potentially win the championship. The first round of the playoffs is FT3, second round is FT4, and finals are FT5.
If you want any other information you can find it here:
The above does look like a good idea; only adjustment is maybe for the 8-player playoff make it a double elim bracket instead of single. I feel like having it single would not go well with seasoned players.
Cross Assault is fantastic. And I’m not being sarcastic here. It’s a giant clusterfuck, but that’s what makes it a reality show. Any reality show on television is just a giant clusterfuck with bigger production values.
You’ve got:
-People playing a game that we were already excited for after WNF. So Capcom’s happy because they’re getting their exposure.
-This ongoing debate about eSports and the FGC that got brought up in the Tekken stream today. Shit is juicy drama, especially with that stuff between IPW and Twitch. Haz, I love you man, but that shit is 10x more interesting than a personal spat between you and Arnul. Especially because this issue actually affects all of us in the FGC.
-Well designed events. Well, not all of them, but the fact that they brought in the “pro” players to highlight the game and interact with the contestants for two events really washed out some of the downfalls from a gameplay perspective.
-The contestants. Rockefeller and Bronson going in and saying dicey things about the man really stirs some stuff up. And for me personally, Ty makes the show incredibly interesting and I really want him to do well since I’ve had chances to speak with the guy.
-Fighting game talent as a whole. You basically get to see what happens when players start with a new game on a somewhat even ground and where they go with it. Ty’s a great example of this because even though he was not too great at SF4 or MvC3, when given that vacuum environment and equal playing time with a newer gen player like Sherry or that Hornett guy, he’s just better than they are. Bronson was the same way. Sure, he blocked 49 of the mashed DPs when he needed to block 50 of them to win, but against a player more comfortable with the engine and with more time with the game, I like how it took Bronson only one game to adapt his defense (360 the j.HK, bait the uppercuts) while it took Hornett nearly 3 games and coaching from Valle to adapt his offense. There’s that mindset of “If it works, keep doing it,” but your credibility flies out the window when it doesn’t work anymore and you STILL keep doing it and LOSE because of it. Though Hornett did get the win and I’m sure he’ll only get better if he keeps playing, I think it’s really worth noting the difference in adaptability.
Anyone know anything about hdmi splitters? I’ve started using my pc through its hdmi outlet instead of the vga cable that I was using before due to some screen flickering it was giving me. My monitor only has one hdmi outlet though, and I hate having to mess with cables to switch back and forth between my pc and my xbox. Anyone know if these things can add lag?
Pretty much everybody that streams direct capture footage from a console is using a video splitter of some kind, so while perhaps it might add some mathematical amount of lag (I honestly don’t know the specifics) I’d guess that it can’t be too big of a deal if people are able to play on the stream stations OK.
Edit: I am seeing some differences in a splitter vs a switch. I never really realized there was a difference in the first place, but it seems like a switch is what I should probably be looking into over a splitter. This is what I am looking to be able to do
yeah, im pretty sure that was zaine. we were playing some games, and I felt this vibration accross the floor and up the chair, followed by what sounded like a minor explosion, at which point the hairs in my nose began to singe off…pretty sure a small nuke went off inside zaine, but i could be wrong.
Rolling Dub’s! Check’em again! But yeah the smell was weird. I thought my water heater was gonna blow up. Must’ve been the Filiberto’s right around the corner that caused the smell then.
