yay more drama to read. pops popcorn

I’ll start a New thread when sfxt hits. So not totally following jons flowchart, but close enough

Nah man, DrDogg’s still arguing so we’re still at point 13.

If I wanted to be a real dick, I could end that. But ill get snitched on with power abusal.

Either way, funny, but sadly, accurate list buddy

It’s a ranking system that comes from Karate and Go that I think some arcades started using on 3S in Japan. It’s a different way to rank people. Basically, everyone is ranked 1st-10th Dan with 1st Dan being the lowest and 10th Dan being the highest. Everybody starts at 1st Dan and you can only fight people in the same rank as your or +/- 1 from your rank.

When you fight somebody in your set, you fight until one of you ranks up or loses rank. Each win gives you +1 point and each loss gives you -1 point, if you hit +3 you rank up and if you hit -3 you rank down.

So to give an example, let’s say we both have leveled to 8th Dan and we play a set. You beat me three times. You get +3 points and I get -3 so I would rank down to 7th Dan and you would rank up to 9th Dan. I would then begin fighting people at my rank level and you would fight people at yours etc.

The cool thing about it is you can enter multiple characters that level up at different ranks. I believe Japanese leagues started doing this to encourage people to play more low/mid tier characters. I always thought it was an interesting way to rank players because If you lose then you just continue fighting people at the same rank. You’re never truly out. It’s probably not feasible as a replacement for ranbats or something but I always through it would be a really fun thing to do.

I think that is called an Eiffel tower.

Sounds like the bootcamps were a modified version of this (the ranking…not the Eiffel Tower-ing); VF5 had a system like this, too.

That sounds awesome. I think they use this in Virtua fighter games. It def would be cool to add a system like this. My only concern would be time, and setups, and whos to say i get to play against 5 people, you someone else only gets to play against 3 people. I guess u can still just keep the normal tournament rules to appease that

I’m not sure as far as the logistics. As far as I know each station is designated by rank and there is some sort of organizer who tells who is fighting who.

I have no idea how you figure out who fights who other than you can only fight people in your rank or close to your rank.

When it’s been applied to fighting games in the past, you don’t battle until one person ranks up and another ranks down. To help with the limitations of time, space, setups, etc., you play a 2 out 3 set with someone of your same rank, the winner gets +1, then you play another person in your rank. When someone reaches +/- 3, they move up/down a rank.

I’ve also seen it done where you fight someone a rank above you if you’re at +2, and you have to beat them to rank up. Usually it’s someone in the above rank who’s at -2 and you swap positions if the lower rank person wins.

There are a bunch of ways to modify the system, but it definitely works for fighting games.

^ sounds really awesome. i def wouldn’t mind a system like this being implemented. How would the money play out though?

Yeah, I’ve seen a ton of variations of it. It’s actually hard for me to find good info on it because every time I find something about it on the internet the site is entirely in Japanese.

Watched a good 20 min of Cross Assault today. This game is looking pretty badass tbh.

Any chance at getting a knife fight going to ease this community bs? Breakdance fight wouldn’t be fair… damn Haz had to fuck that up. Hahaha.

^ the beef between haz and arnul is over with. I think there will always be beef with scott and bryan tho

Why yes… Yes I am. Gunna make a grip this time and start making them during SF so everyone can have a heavenly explosion in their mouth… =]

I would totally love a heavenly explosion in my mouth from carlos!!!

no homo =D

Haha nice Carlos, Il be bring my carnitas for you to use as well  see how you like this white boy carnitas lol

I like your ideas for point system guys but for the ranbats I am going to keep it at a point structure for 1-8th I was more looking for input on how you think the points are set now. The ideas you have are great for bootcamp/training style but with a double elim tournament that would be difficult imo.

as far as points go. as long as someone cant win the first 3 and have it in the bag then i think thats fine.

Honestly, if someone were to win 1st place in 4 of the 5 I feel like they deserve the win for the season. I understand the desire to keep things interesting, but I’d completely understand if a winner was upset about some bullshit X-Factor comeback factor in a Ranbat season. I’m too lazy to calculate the exact numbers out for this to happen, but I also feel that 3 1sts and 1 2nd place wins should also be able to seal the deal.

Speaking of bullshit X-Factor ideas, though, that could be something worth considering while completely contradicting my point above. It would definitely keep the Ranbats interesting if you added a small multiplier to the later dates, like the 1st Ranbat being worth x1 points and gradually increasing the multiplier, with the last Ranbat being worth x 1.5 points or something. Anything higher and I’d say it’s stupid, but it’s an idea worth entertaining, I think.

Muji, these fools can’t do decimals. There are periods in the middle of the numbers!
