Frame data plays a BIG part in high level SC play. I can easily tell if someone is mashing because they ignore frame data. Counter hits all day.
Right, right, but to a beginner like me who doesn’t know the frame data, I’d go off of what “feels” safe or unsafe and which of my moves feel quick enough to counter hit. What I’m saying is that it’s harder to discern that due to all the flourish and shiny.
Lol Muji. I hear ya. You gotta get used to the game. Moves are so fucking deceptive looking.
Frame data, to me, is still not mandatory in 3d fighters, its just a lot more consistent. Just playing the game and finding out what move beats what off block is just as good. You don’t have to know frame data to figure that out. It’s just a tool you can use, especially if you are stumped and can’t figure out what’s fast enough to punish. But its far from mandatory

I can never play in tourney, I only have a PS3 and PS3 stick. I am not going to be looking to buy another stick or dual mod when it is rare that I will ever use it at this point in time.
just borrow one from someone at a tourney. problem solved. but tbh, if you want to be in a tournament scene and are serious, you should be prepared to have both
I’m morally outraged that Dan wasn’t included in that star league trailer video…
GGs guys.
Thanks for the one-on-one Muji, feels like it confirms what I always thought my biggest problems were (reactions and getting frustrated). It was also nice to see my resets worked just as well as I’d thought - I am going to practice the shit out of them.
having mad fun playing SCV. I’ll be bringing a setup to Haz’s this weekend.
Also… lets play this at ranbats

I am not spending 300 bucks on a game a may not play competitively for long is the point I was making. If I were actually good I would buy both because I would be getting money back from it. Currently I am in 280 (150 stick, 30 parts, 60 game (mvc), 40 game (umvc)), and I have made 0 in return. You see why I wouldn’t want to deal another 150 at the moment?
That’s why Sabre gave you the other option: Borrow someone else’s stick and figure out if you want to play competitively. There are players here who do that all the time. Nobody’s trying to force you to spend money on a stick or anything so you can stop being so defensive about it.
I guarantee you that 99% of us and everyone else in the country are in the red from tournament entry fees, purchases and stick maintainence. That’s not why we play, either.
GGs! Honestly, you should probably shelve the resets for the time being and practice your pressure and zoning. It’s more important to learn how to start combos than how to finish them, in my opinion. Resets don’t do you any good if you’re never able to consistently start your combos, but pressure is good even if you drop your combos and even lead to more resets.
Oh yeah, I know I would be able to borrow for now. I am saying I don’t want to invest for a little while until I improve.
buy a 6 button pad problem solved. The street fighter 4 ones do quite nicely. You don’t HAVE to play on a stick.
Customed out my stick, check it out…

** very nice. now bring that stick saturday and wear a shirt just like it **
@akuma31: I am aware. I have one arcade stick and enjoy it. I was just saying I can’t use my own for tournies because it is only for PS3. My word choice was misunderstood as defensive and maybe aggressive. I was just saying something that I didn’t think would be taken out of context in the way in which it was. I still want to play in tournies, but I am not buying a second stick unless I see some type of return first is what I was saying.
If you started playing fighting games to make money, you’ll probably be disappointed; even top players often don’t win money at tournaments, especially tournaments with only a top 3 payout. Personally, the fun and friends that I’ve had through FGs more than justifies the money I’ve spent. And even then, this is still probably the cheapest hobby I’ve had in years.
I didn’t join for money, I play for fun with my friends. But I am saying a 400 investment to have 0 return is heart breaking at times. So, that is why I want to wait before buying one.
I guess I don’t understand what type of “return” you mean that you hope to see, if not just fun and enjoyment.
