AZ Thread. hAZbats start this saturday! 1/21. Check First posts

I’m going! I don’t know how to play all that well but it’ll be fun just to mess around!

If it dies, it dies. But it was definitely a good gateway into fighting games and competitive gaming in general, I learned how to think a bit more while playing it. It was really apparent in this last tournaments, seeing all the new people making the same mistakes I did. I hope to help them out with that if I ever see them again.

I feel like it’ll carry over alright to the next couple of games. It did alright for Marvel, at least. Maybe not 3D games though, those things confuse the shit out of me.

I’ll play whatever is big in the AZ scene at the current time, provided that I don’t hate it. I care more about the community and the competition moreso than what actual game is being played.

The 4 series is definitely better than Marvel 3 as far as design. Marvel is without a doubt way more fun though.

yea you 09’rs would say that lol. some day you guys will look back after a couple of years and realize what a shitty game it was . I started off with tekken5.0 to TekkenDR and I can admit how stupid shit was in that game with Deviljin which was my main character. I did learn how to calculate frame data, whiff punish or punish stuff that was unsafe, break throws, understand match ups ect… I can see some of you who have adapted the similar experiences to the newer games and the obvious who bitch and complain about every other game besides the 4 series( rolls eyes) have failed and are stuck playing 4. I believe there are smart fucking players like Dana, Reece, Alonso, luey to many to many to mentions but are too stuck on that wack ass 4 series mentality! luey really sucks unless he drops frank then he’s godlike!

Let the 09’s unleash their wrath

What exactly is the 4 series mentality?

Choosing the less of two evils? I think Marvel is a fun game to play and watch but it doesn’t suit my style when playing it seriously or competitively. What if you don’t like Marvel but you still want to play against a strong community that has ongoing tournaments? hmmmmm seems to me like the only other game worth playing is sf4. I’m sure there are many other great fighting games out there but it feels like there are only a couple relevant games in the community, or at least srk.

Hey guys, I’m a little late in posting this but me and Juan from Anomaly Arcade Sticks wanted to thank the guys for purchasing some Arcade parts, installing parts, playing some casual matches and just plain out chit chatting with us at Super Marvel Madness. Big thanks to Euphoria Gaming and Keith for setting up the tournament.

If anybody wants to play some Soul Calibur I’ll be on today and tomorrow. PSN: coffeerox
Please note that I won’t tolerate harassment. Last time I posted my username up, people harassed me, I blocked and reported

It’s posts like that that help make you s target

Scott, last time I didn’t say anything but welcome people to a friendly game and I was still a target. Damned if I do, damned if I don’t.

Ill add u akuma. i should be getting my soul cal later tonight. The online looks pretty darn good

So, how did the Soul Calibur event go?

Pizza, drinks, artist drawing cool pics
tons of set ups and each of them had 2 soul cal TE sticks, super nice.
The tournament had plenty of people, all playing different characters so that was nice

I pressed buttons and got to like semi finals or some crap!
Finals were boring, between some guy who didnt know how to play and dr.dogg
1st place was just a copy of the game

the game itself is actually pretty fun at a casual level

Learning how to play new characters in a match is pretty fun but it sucks when you lose. -.- I was sad. Z.W.E.I was pretty badass. I didn’t know how to bust out his werewolf.

Other than sc1, I just enjoy sc on a casual level. Im sure Dr dogg or someone will come in and blast me for saying this, but I think the game is too button mashy for my tastes. That’s just IMO

You tied for 5th. Top three were all Soul Calibur 4 players. Also, I got any game I wanted. It didn’t have to be SC5.

I’m sorry you thought the finals were boring, but since none of us had played the game before there wasn’t much we could really do. Things have changed quite a bit since SC4… at least for my character.

The guy who got 2nd also played SC4. I don’t know what his skill level is in that game, but he definitely knows what he’s doing. He knew way more about SC5 than I did.

Here’s the bracket if anyone is interested: http://challonge.com/013012_microsoft_scv

Any fighting game can be called “button mashy”. I am a bit confused as to how you can say SC is button mashy and not think Marvel is.

For the record, I don’t think either game is button mashy.

I think at the higher levels of play SC is not mashy seeing as how there is so much unsafe stuff and just guards and stuff like that.
Last night was definitely funny though, baseball swings for everybody!

Hitting random buttons in marvel gets you absolutely nowhere. And I’m not saying sc has no skill. Buy I feel its too random. I just remember at evo2k3 and sc2. I didn’t like sc2 so I never learned it, and yet I was taking random wins on some of the top players due to ring outs and just hitting random buttons. It shouldn’t be like that. Ever since sc2, I frowned on the series as being scrubby yet having plenty of high level stuff, but the gap is small. Granted to be fair, that sounds like sf4 and mvc3. I dunno, sc just rubs me the wrong way these days, no homo.

I remember playing sc4 and just losing to button mashers at random. High level tekken and vf, ill never beat them, but sc, I feel like I have a chance. It’s just weird

Ah. A little disappointed that I didn’t go, but I probably wouldn’t have made my meeting this morning if I had.

Every casual player I knew for 2, 3, and 4 picked Kilik and swung the stick around randomly. I wonder how far that would have gotten me. Maybe I’ll pick up the game sometime but atm I’m happy with The Old Republic for my casual play.
