AZ Thread. hAZbats start this saturday! 1/21. Check First posts

When I was first getting into SFIV in '09 there were Ranbats going on. I knew right away after playing a couple of matches with people that I wasn’t going to take the tournament, but I kept going anyway. Tournament nerves exist and I had (still have) them bad, so even though I wasn’t going to win I knew that I was gaining something from my entry fee. Nowadays I find myself being able to execute and apply what I’ve practiced much easier in tournaments rather than locking up and going into a braindead state while playing. I still have quite a bit of way to go, especially when it comes to choking in Marvel, but it’s pretty exhilarating. There’s a point you hit where you hit a threshold and switch from going to be challenged to going to win. It’s easy to tell when that happens to a player because they’re suddenly more active and confident.

I had forgotten there was an event on the 31st, too. No guarantees on my attendance, it’s New Years Eve and I have plans, plus the distance isn’t anything to sneeze at.

Did you say that because PW has a sneeze move?
Just curious,

Happy Holidays all.

top three gets a prize money, and casuals will be going on before and after the tournament

Everybody play KoF13. That is all. It’s pretty much the exact opposite of Marvel.

Exact opposite in that its a dead game vs an active game? I kid.no thanks. No more getting burned by kof, by me

Switching to Modok/Magneto/Sentinel has magically renewed my interest in getting good at Marvel.

the old man with the flashbacks
Too bad I can’t get any practice in that game with my roommate (and his copy) out of town. Kinda wanted to scrub it up with some mix of Kyo/Shen/Ralf/Iori/Terry (who I have heard are all ez to play). And I like how there are usually around 5-8 shotos in any given KoF (Kyo, old Iori, Terry, Andy, Ryo, K’, Kula, sometimes Robert).

If I wasn’t fucking putrid with 8-way air-dash characters (I blame the pad), I would play MODOK just because he looks like more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Dat analyze cube swag

Are you going to be able to make it to the meetup today Zaine?

Even on stick his combos are difficult. So expect me to graduate from basic magic series in about 6 months.

GAAL!

I miss this game.

For those curious, let me describe the ways KoF is the opposite of (and, therefore, imo, better than) Marvel.
-No easy mode comebacks. When you win, you truly earned the win. If you suck, you lose. No random x-factor lolz.
-Combos are harder
-Hitboxes make sense
-Meter management is much more important
-No unblockables (aside from throws and command throws)
-4 kinds of jumps, 5 kinds of cancels, 3 ways to use super meter, 3 ways to use drive meter. This leads to a much more creative playstyle variance.
-No universal combo series. You actually have to learn how to play your characters if you want to do damage.
-Speaking of damage, you’re rewarded for doing the harder more extended combos with much improved damage.

@Git: Oh snap, i forgot. It’s entirely possible. I’ll check the FB group for the address, and will be there if i can. Mesa is a shit-long way from Glendale, so i’ll definitely have to calculate the gas i can spare this week. Hope to be there, though!

see thats the thing. that, to me, doesnt mean its better. its just different. i mean, marvel never fronts with having a hard combo system. marvel games were created to be an easier, more accessible game, to begin with, and it doesnt hide that. its been like that since COTA.

to me, more does not mean better. i mean, if more was better, then games like st would be shitty games.

i never liked kof’s universal systems. especially rolls/dodge, etc. its like, why have fireballs when you can just simply avoid them effortlessly? its the same problem that plagues cvs2. plus you can blow through shit at random. its stupid to me. it also blows my mind to the huge number of dp style attacks there are in the game, and kof has always lacked AA’s. They’ve always been practically non existent. why even have em?

drive meter? no thanks. can capcom(well atleast they have mostly) and especially snk, please get past the custom combo concept. its always stupid. granted, i will admit, kof13 does it pretty well. but im not a fan of em. people front like kof combos are some type of impossible feat. they really arent that hard. i know people think sf4 is super noob friendly, execution wise, and its true. but thats only on a scrub level. a good player, in sf4, can easily learn a combo in kof13. its just simply getting used to kof style. no different than getting used to how to open people up in marvel and so forth. its like people think no one plays kof cuz its harder to execute… what crap. the US didnt play it years ago either when even capcom games were harder to execute. US just dont play kof, just like japan just doesn’t play marvel. I’m kinda sick of the elitist attitude thats risen in the wake of kof13 hitting consoles(not saying you are being elitist, zaine, just making that clear =)). great game? sure.

im not trying to bash on kof13. i think its a good game. i mean, snk has to atleast get their games to play correctly atleast once every decade right? /sarcastic joke. But damn, fools be pushing this game like its for real men, when really, the basics are no harder. just different. and try to shit on players cuz they dont care to play it. I wish it well.

sorry, im bored, ranting. maybe im trolling or something to get a conversation going and not realizing it, i dunno. but its all i see on srk and facebook lately. its almost as annoying as the fanboy stream monsters that constantly bash the game on stream and saying a different game thats not showing, is better, over and over

Milfhunting Troll?

Damn, you need to blow off some steam brotha, I can see it in your post!!

Funny how those who suck ass at the popular games go to kof! Go play juicebox since you think the game is soo good, I want to see what your excuse will be when he and his kof crew rape you and I’m just guessing their decent at the game lol

KoF has a really harsh comeback mechanic

it’s called getting hit by a combo

Streamin some UMVC3 Casuals with Scumbag, Sepulved-Jin, Spiteful, Gio, Alonso & Forward >> www.twitch.tv/teamhazmat

Anyone down for some XBL UMvC3? I’m growing tired of playing randoms.

Not trying to be an elitist about it. I’m just trying to get people to give it a chance. I didn’t think i would like it because i grew up on capcom fighters, and i was surprised to find that even getting wrecked, i was still enjoying myself.

Any takers? I would like to get a decent sessions going in a few mins here.

KoF looks fun. As far as the execution barrier goes, I used to be all on a high horse with my Viper and Ibuki play and how I was good at playing high execution characters. I would then proceed to shit all over people who played characters like Balrog and Ryu, which require significantly less levels of execution (As in physical dexterity, not mental). Then Marvel came out and, while I did take to Zero (You can be as liberal as you want with that, some people say he’s easy and some say he’s hard), people who played Ryu/Rog style characters in SF4 picked up harder combo characters like Vanilla Doom (as in actual loops instead of Ultimate OTG loops) or X-23 or Dante and did perfectly fine.

I think that the same thing applies with KoF. Execution may have a huge role in the game, but just because you can do it doesn’t mean others can’t, it’s just that they haven’t tried. If anything, high execution served as a distraction for me and pigeonholed me as a player for quite a large bit of time rather than learning fundamentals and basics.

There’s also the fact that since the game is new, everything looks hard.
