My new team with Captain America consists of Cap (A), Wesker (B), and Doom (A)
With Captain on point, I have an otg, and a way to cover my approach, Doom’s beam can also be used to shut up Sentinel’s drones. Also in the corner, Wesker gives me the ability to do an unblockable with Cap’s J.down+:c:. With Wesker on point. I can do his regular bnb, call out cap’s shield assist, do the bnb over. Pistol, call out Doom, and do the bnb over. Both Cap and Doom’s assist allow Wesker to do his level 3 super after. Also, when not in the corner, Cap’s shield brings the opponent back for Wesker to deal more damage. Doom is usually the loner of the group unless he’s snap backed. I use him more for the assist then anything else. He can do an unblockable with Wesker, and otg+Cap assist is pretty good.
This team is okay with super synergy. If I do a bad Cap super, I can dhc into Wesker’s maximum wesker or counter to keep him safe. Not safe doing it the other way though, which isn’t hard to get use too.
so would captain theoretically become a good character to have with a phoenix anchor? the infinite requires no meter and can kill a character while gaining meter himself eh?
just a thought i dont plan on doing it because i’m not a phoenix fan - but somebody should look into that!
I’m actually looking at replacing sent with shuma - but i’m not sure who’s gonna take my number 2 spot.
captain and wesker are pretty set now - i think wesker is CRITICAL to captain.
I had been searching and searching for a third character and last night I randomly decided to run some mission mode with Capt America. Got to level 6 before my playing partner came and we threw down. At first I was hesistant so stuck to characters I had slightly more practice with but wasn’t good at or don’t care for (Modok, Dante, Mag) and it was pretty much be playing with 2 characters. Then I tried Capt America and even with little practice his moves just made sense to me and worked really well.
My team is definitely Capt SHIELD SLASH, Hulk AA, Sent CHARGE
I gotta learn the guide combos then some of the combos people on here have posted and the infinite but it worked amazingly well.
yes! cap is such a great battery character. he builds so much meter and his combos are pretty long and it’s pretty easy to sneak in aerial tags to get more meter.
i run with cap task phoe. and when i play rank battles i usually run 10+ winning streaks everytime(dunno if phoenix has more to do with it, but oh well).
also when yer opponent gets too smart and tag and kill phoenix before 5 meters, yer still left with cap who gets 3x more dangerous with meter.
Why is OTG so important with Cap? I won’t switch characters but you could perhaps convince me to switch probably Hulk from AA to Gammawave.
I mean I know there are obvious benefits to every character having an OTG assist but you can’t have everything so what makes OTG so damn special for Capt?
with an otg grabs are dangerous and you can’t fall asleep while playing against cap - without an OTG the same is not true. With OTG you can corner YOURSELF and just laugh because of cap’s lackluster corner combos - with an OTG his corner combos are pretty much just as dangerous and are EXACTLY as dangerous with the infinite.
Hulk’s OTG assist is pretty good but it has some strange properties that make it difficult to work with sometimes, comboing out of it is strange because of how far it pushes the opponent. A lot of the time you can do things like back throw call hulk cartwheel H Shield slash to get something going - corner or otherwise
but I think that Cap absolutely NEEDS an OTG that he can combo out of the throws - a lot of them are too slow - hulk’s is not one of those too slow ones though!
Once I get a player in the Corner all I want to do is hyper XX gammacrush and then have Hulk locking the opponent in the corner instead. Captain is for closing those gaps backed up by sent drones.
Sometimes it’s height sometimes its position. I don’t think wesker can otg off the back air throw in the corner for instance as the gun shoots past - likely fixable with a quick back dash before the assist is called.
I completely agree with this, the gun is pretty fast as an assist and lets you do unblockables on the fly once you train your opponent to respect your offense.
Cap is the heart and soul of the team and benefits big from the other guys’ assists. with hulk’s otg, I can confirm into super even in the corner. Magneto helps both Cap and Hulk get in with disruptor. The other thing to not about this team is that if you do a Hyper charging star combo off a Hulk OTG almost anywhere on the screen, it will take them to the corner because of how far both hulk’s assist and the hyper takes the opponent. This may seem terrible for cap since he thrives off midscreen combos, but there are reasons for doing this.
Number one, it lets me DHC to magneto, who loves to have an oponent stuck in the corner. Two, I don’t lose that much damage since I have hulk otg assist. Most importantly, having the opponent in the corner makes it really really easy to set up the most ambiguous crossup with cartwheel I can do under the cover of Mag’s disruptor. Most of the time, i don’t even know where i’ll end up, and if I do it right, I can launch off disruptor.
Mags is great on this team because he is really flexible and can spend all the meter cap makes, or not. Doing his air S combos with flys and airdashes means you can spend the meter for great stuff if you want (gravity squeeze) or you can save it for hulk. Because x factor hulk with lots of meter is crazy scary and can set up some huge comebacks, especially if mags is alive to cover his approach with disruptor.
The other advantage to having hulk as an anchor is that gamma crush will always beat hyper sentinel force no matter where you start it, so if sent is the last char (which happens a lot) on the opposing team, he can’t fullscreen chip me. Also, Hulk absolutely owns haggar and tron who are likely to be last because they are most often picked for their assists. Superarmor on stand H obliterates pipe and tron spam jump H.
So what do you guys think of this team? The only issue is that i can’t find a way to make cap’s assist useful. Like, The bradygames guide reccomends shield slash since the other two lose their unique properties as assists, but I just can’t find a good time to use it.
I’ve been looking for other assists for a couple weeks but nobody’s have been so nice for cartwheel shenanigans.
I’ll keep my eye out - I was actually looking at Shuma for an interesting reason - depending on where you are screen positioning wise the Shuma assist will hit you at different times because of how the beam travels, could make for some interesting to block scenarios - but I don’t know. I might go back to Arthur for the time being, but not really BECAUSE of the health nerf - I don’t find the character fun and I’ve been looking for a new second since like day 2 of my sent XD
How do you get Hulk’s otg assist to hit after the throw? Do you have to call it first? I can’t get it to hit before they get up.
Are there any good OTG alternatives to wesker? I hate wesker but cap is my team and will play him if i have to…
C Viper’s otg knocks them high enough to combo into H shield slash at mid screen but I can’t figure out a good combo starting from there in the corner…
I’ve been working on a few different teams but I think I’ve settled on the Core of my team being Cap and Wesker. I believe Wesker with Low shot is the perfect character for Cap as he extends all of Caps combos greatly increasing damage potential, and Cap greatly helps weskers teleport shenanigans with the shield slash. I’ve been trying to decide on the 3rd character. I want a character to bring up the rear that has a great offensive assist abilities. I love sentinel drones but I don’t like sentinel, I love arthurs spears but I don’t like arthur either. I want something that hits multiple times that can allow me to LMH cartwheel to set up good mixups with cap. Any good ideas. I’m open to anyone but Sent and Arthur but keep in mind this person has to bring up the rear so I really need a decent character to be able to hold their own if it comes down to that…
