Slight correction: There’s no rule that men can’t blood bend, rather a female bender happened to learn it first (as far as we know) and that she taught it to Katarra. I’m sure you know this, but just wanted to clarify for people who didn’t know.
It’s because water benders get more power during a full moon. So theoretically, a super powerful water bender may not need the full moon to blood bend. Also, most liquids will have water (unless you’re talking like pure acetone or something), so water benders can bend the water part and still bend the liquid as a whole. For example, during the last episodes of season 2, Katarra is bending the muddy water from that giant penis-drill. She’s also bending the dirt aspect of the mud back as well.
And it’s not the amount of water they have in their body, unless they’re going to use that fluid to fight with.

The Avatar series is easily the greatest cartoon series of this generation, hands down. Back in my “day” I’ve always felt that the Macross saga was the cartoon series of the 80’s (plot, character development, storyline etc, etc), and I feel that Avatar happens to be one of those within that genre that shows up once in a generation that simply goes beyond the typical cartoon show.
I cannot wait for The Legend of Korra, this will be highly anticipated by me.
