How come we couldn’t gotten someone who looked like this to play as Katara?
M. Night is as delusional as people who actually think this garbage qualifies as sound storytelling.
That this film is not universally hated – as in, that there are people that actually like it – is aggravating.
I’m an aspiring screenwriter, and I have a healthy ego, but fuck, I understand the importance of HAVING OTHER PEOPLE LOOK OVER MY SHIT. and TAKING CRITICISM SERIOUSLY. Fuck M. Night; he’s another George Lucas. Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were flukes. How someone can fluke those films is unknown to me, but the facts speak for themselves: he’s a two-hit wonder.
I can’t become a screenwriter soon enough. Write the most epic Dr. B movie ever.
Oh don’t get me wrong man i do feel it was a problem but it didn’t hinder me much from enjoying the movie somewhat.
The best thing that could happen out of this movie is that M.Night won’t be attached to the sequel and someone else directs and writes it instead.
Because Hollywood assumes that the predominately white audience is racist.
Wait, the name “Aang” is never mentioned in the movie? :wtf:
I’m gonna need to watch the show entirely just to cleanse my palette.
I guess people wanted the movie of there imaginations and not willing to accept that a movie may be forced to change based on what can be shown in a small period of time. Eh… I like it. And im copping the blue ray. Enjoy the movie for what it was.
^ the guy above: Did you even watch the movie. They said it MULTIPLE times throughout the entire movie…
I’m asking everyone in this thread after watching the Avatar Fans Hate Avatar Movie link in the previous page. I’m most likely going to watch the movie on Saturday but I won’t be paying to see it.
i think people didn’t like the movie because it wasn’t a good movie.
you don’t get <10% fresh on rotten tomatoes just because there’s rabid fanboys. people who never even saw avatar cartoon think this was a horrible movie.
I’d say watch the movie and come to your own conclusion once you see it. Going to watch a movie after reading a thread constantly saying the movie sucks does slant your view on the movie before watching it. It has some things good, some bad but watch the movie and then come to the conclusion. After watching the movie yesterday I’ve got 3 other people who never watched the cartoon now wanting to see the series. If you watch it and hate it then come on back to the dislike of the movie thread and vent.
^ Hmm I guess this is were the whole difference of opinion comes in. I have some of the opposite experiences than others in the whole “getting people to want to watch the series” category. The ones that saw it while leaving the theater left clapping and were leaving saying that it was a generally good movie. Folks seemed to enjoy it.
Bullshit argument. “Enjoy the movie for what it is” is Nonsense for “Be a mentally lazy sheep who doesn’t question what’s presented to him.”
The movie was badly made, by any standard. Not because it’s different, but because its source material, audience, and plot flow weren’t thoughtfully considered.
Don’t defend garbage like this. Far too many moviemakers present stories with strong dialog and adept crafting to waste your time stroking the ego of an out of touch filmmaker who doesn’t care about criticism.
Read my prior posts for the reasons I gave as to why this film is trash. Read what almost every critic is saying AND compare the common criticisms. Don’t oversimplify the extremely valid hate this bomb is getting.
Dr. B acts believably on any movie he’s in.
I actually want to go into the movie with low expectations. So if there’s ANYTHING positive about the movie, I’ll like it. Happened with Spiderman 3. It’s still bad, but to me not 2 Fast 2 Furious bad.
Thing is though this is a movie that should have been 2 maybe 2 hours and 15 minutes long. At least with that time frame, you cut out alot of exposition and actually show the things that happen instead of talking about it.
Kusanagi: yeah that was my main complaint with the movie. The pacing was a very fast. There was alot of material that was cut out and some I wish was left out and with a longer movie it would of have more time to elaborate instead of just the talk. Personally I wish they could have stretched it out over the span of multiple movies but eh it is what it is.
People have their opinions on the film, some are common. Not saying the criticism is warranted or not. If someone has a difference of opinion than someone who hates the movie then let em have it. I’m just saying, if you want to see the movie then watch it and come to your conclusion after seeing it. But Im not going to bomb it when I enjoyed it.
just admit you loved TF2 and thought Wolverine was “so badass”.
Tomahawk: Again, that’s bullshit reasoning.
Dr. B wins every argument at the genetic level.
It isn’t bullshit reasoning. You made the statement that nobody should defend this movie because to you it was garbage. You’re trying to force people that enjoyed the movie on a certain level to your way of thinking which is stupid.
i’ll have to admit that there are people who don’t care about things like “pacing” and “Story telling” and just want to see a bunch of cool shit and explosions and special effects. but when a director appeals to that minority, you’re not making a movie in the interest of creating a compelling, interesting movie.
Last Airbender, The reviews at Metacritic.com
Metacritic: Worst-Reviewed Movies
right now, the last airbender is the 151th worst movie of all time according to metacritics current scores, and it could possibly go up (or down, depending on who you’re looking at it) because the actual weekend is coming up. Bratz: the movie got better reviews than the last airbender. obviously, you aren’t alone in your favorable criticism, because there are people who are getting paid money to watch movies who are giving it somewhat favorable reviews, but i think if you are going to take that stance, you have to prepare to be questioned.
anyways, io9 review for those who missed it.
M. Night Shyamalan Finally Made A Comedy
Transformers 2 comes to mind.
agreed. and i’ll even admit that i enjoyed TF2, but i know it wasn’t a good movie. everything everyone says is bad about it is true, and i will never defend the movie because i realize that i got bought into fight scenes and such.
but even tf2 had things like character development and (messy) plot progression. the last airbender avoided these like the plague.
This is so damn important. One of the things The Dark Knight had going for it was it did borrow from the comics and brought in things the regular person & comic book lover would both enjoy.
