Why are people so adamant about the actors being Asian? I just want them to look like the characters they’re portraying.
A better question is why can’t they be Asian? That’s kind of the vibe Hollywood has been giving off lately in a lot of movies with Asian based leads.
I have no problem with them being Asian; if they managed to cast an Asian that looks like Katara/Sokka/Aang, awesome.
Edit: Katara and Sokka look like brown people with blue eyes and black/brown hair. I don’t give a fuck what the actual ethnicity of the actors portraying them are, so as long as they fit that description.
…but Sokka and Katara look Thai to me…
My bro just finished watching the entire series and he loved it.
He too became an Iroh fan by the end (I was a fan of him since Season 1), and was hoping for more Iroh.
you mean besides following the story? besides the fact that the entire show is based around asian culture? besides the fact that the martial arts in the show looks like kung fu and other asian arts? Besides the fact that if all the characters look like the people they’re portraying, then they should be asian?
lol dood, just about everything about the show says MAKE DEM MUFUKKAS ASIAN
just bought the ‘book one boxed set’.
gonna sit down and watch it this week sometime.
Irrelevant. Character race is never brought up in the story. The only “races” ever brought up are Air Nomads, Water Nation, Fire Nation, and Earth Kingdom. And even then, the only nation that seems overtly “Asian” are Fire Nation citizens.
So?
So?
Highly debatable.
Except the characters’ appearence themselves.
Nothing about this and this screams that these “mufukkas” are “Asian.” At least not to me.
thank you
Monk council from the Southern Air Temple look asian. Look like they could be the older version of the Shaolin Soccer team.
As for the actors playing the characters, I think the choices are poor. Zuko being played by a brown guy, seriously? For Aang, I’d prefer a kid who has the same build as him (sorta on the scrawny side), but this kid is pudgy in the face.
Like I said; I don’t care what ethnicity the actors are, so long as they resemble the character they portray.
Water Tribe isn’t Asian, they are eskimo.
I guess Eskimo is kinda asian? Now Earth Tribe, they are obviously Asian and the Air tribe are obviously monks, who are probably asian.
I mean no one had blonde hair. I think it’s kinda lame that the Zuko guy doesn’t have a horrible scar. He is supposed to look all fucked up.
Good. now with that it mind, remember how adamant Hollywood is about not casting Asian American actors in leading roles due to not appearing American enough. So when a movie like this comes along with a lot of potential opportunity for talented Asian American artists to shine, only to have it pissed away by not even giving Asian Americans the opportunity to audition, what does that say about the production?
It’s not complicated. Asians do have a good reason to gripe, particularly those working in the industry right now.
:china:
How disappointing. He looks indian to me plus I agree with the scar needing to be more pronounced and he needs to have that cool yellow eye. Booo
PROTIP: That’s probably because he’s played by an Indian.
That would explain it! :looney:
Oh well, at least he’s got some ethnicity to him.
I wouldn’t mind him playing Sokka instead. He actually might be able to pull it off better.
Ah, Canadia prices. gotcha, that is still high, imo.
Well, IMAX is worth it, but not the regular theatre.

Yeah the scar definitely needs to be more pronounced.
