Zuko wasn’t shooting lightning; he was just redirecting it.
Epic episodes were epic though.
Just as an addition, yeah, Zuko didn’t use lighting, he just used the reflect he learned from Uncle Iroh in Season 2, the episode was called Bitter Work. I knew he was going to use that technique eventually, of course, but it happened so quickly and suddenly that I didn’t totally expect it and it came off pretty bad ass. I honestly thought Zuko would end up using the lightning reflect on Azula too which made it more surprising.
EDIT: Just a suggestion, but someone might want to label Spoiler Alert on the Topic of this thread because spoilers are all over the place now.
where’s IROH !@! XD
The Damned: 3 minutes and 22 seconds into The Avatar and the Firelord, his air tattoos glow just like they do in the avatar state. I assumed it was the same thing, but maybe it is not. Even so, I am sure that he will re-unlock the state so that he can beast on the fire nation.
You know what’s an interesting episode to rewatch after watching eps 10-11. Zuko Alone, Season 2, Episode 7. Turns out Azula doesn’t ALWAYS lie.
It was also funny watching that episode again because Azula was a manipulative bitch at like 7-8 years old even.
All the southern water benders were captured by the fire nation. There aren’t any left. Katara wasn’t taken because she was much too shitty before they found Aang, and I think the firenation figured they got them all or something.
And Azula lost to Katara at the end of season 2.
Oh, well I think it may have just come from a different chakra then since I remember that a different chakra allowed him to see the Spirit World/“Past Lives” when he was training with that Yogi guy at the end of last season before Azula beasted him.
Actually, we learned she doesn’t lie when in the second episode of Black Sun:
Azula’s Truthiness
Spoiler
She gladly told them were Ozai was really hiding after the eclipse passed.
She probably just finds lying more fun and useful.
No, she didn’t. Azula was losing, yes, but then Zuko interfered.
That’s why I said she’s never been soundly beaten by anyone since she may have been able to recover from the Chinese Octopus Trap that Katara had her, especially since she still had her left arm free.
Azula (in Juggernaut voice): “I’m Unstoppable!”
Toph: “She’s telling the truth.” :bluu:
Although I have to wonder:
Ozai’s Fury
[details=Spoiler]If he was pissed at Zuko, then I have to wonder how pissed off he will be with Azula for lying to him unless he figured out something was up at the War Meeting and just likes to play favorites.
I also have to wonder what is up with Haru’s goatee. And I don’t remember the Machinist and his crippled son.[/details]
Uncle??!! performed a raging demon, busted out of the cell, fucked up everything in his way and is probably shagging that female guard.
Wheelchair nerd kid and scientist man are from season 1 I think. Aang goes back to one of the air temples and finds some people living there who fly with gliders.
Azula getting away was lol. (reminds me of a certain female character on Heroes) Well we all should’ve known it wouldn’t have worked, not just because Azula was informed but for the simple fact that Aang didn’t learn firebending and the show needs to be milked for all it’s worth with double features and a movie.
I wouldn’t be surprised if after the Firebending arc that there will a Avatar arc or something.
The only real disappointment for me was that I was DYING to get a taste of what Firelord Ozai had to offer. Instead I got just some lightning bending that didn’t do much, even Azula has done more with her abilities on a regular basis.
On an artistic note, the Water Tribe armor and 2-fingered gloves were really nice designs.
Well, anyone awake knew this invasion plan would be Avatar’s, “Bay of Pigs,” what with 9 episodes remaining, Aang not knowing Firebending (sorta ruins the whole premise of the show, you know the Avatar having to learn ALL the elements) and Azula learning about the invasion way back when. But even then it was still an entertaining two-parter.
–Aang finally manning up and kissing Katara full on = win. I’m actually not a fan of the Avatar/Katara romantic relationship (they always seemed more lil bro/big sis to me), but kudos to Aang for having the testicles to just DO IT.
–Yay for Zuko to making the decision he should have made at the end of Book two. Also being able to articulate how and why he made his decision, which is something he DIDN’T do at Book two. The part about caring how people outside the Fire Nation, however, seemed to come out of nowhere. Yes, he has seen the hardships that the war has brought to so many people, but he’s never appeared to reflect or feel guilt about that particular aspect of the war; therefore it was odd to hear him use that as a justification for turning his life upside down.
–Boo to Sokka for falling for such obvious bait on Suki. I think it would have shown excellent growth and leadership skills if Azula had baited them with info on Suki, and Sokka struggled for a few minutes, and then walked away.
For the most part he managed to keep his head in the game when he was needed, but after appearing to move forward with his character development, presenting such an obvious failure on his part sorta sucks.
–Yeah, Azula running rings around Aang was broken. Maybe if it’d just been Toph and Sokka, but mobile-ass flying Aang? GTFO. That’s just them adding to the, “Azula is complete bad-ass” mythos.
–After episodes building up to Iroh’s escape, and strongly hinting at it at the beginning of this episode, it sucks that we actually didn’t get to SEE it. It would have been nice pay-off to witness Uncle beast on that asshole guard and break out of jail for free. I think that was my one big beef for the show.

Well you have to remember Zuko internalizes most of his thoughts and feelings, so this shouldn’t be a surprise. Let’s not forget his interaction with random people who helped him, including girls from other nations.
Even cooler is if he escaped WHEN the solar eclipse was happening!:looney:
I realized that! damn that makes him a beast! that’s like winning with cable not using a single ounce of meter!
Of course. As I said, we’ve SEEN him interact with refugees and war survivors, so its not a matter of him NOT knowing what he’s talking about. But the way they’ve gone about it is simply poor writing.
If your character has something serious on their mind that will effect future behavior significantly, particularly if its an issue that doesn’t fit into their, “normal” character mindset (thinking of the Fire Nation’s image abroad, for Zuko), you have to give us some serious hints and clues that the character is actually thinking about these things. Otherwise why would we assume they’re thinking about something that they never think about? Therefore we (the viewers) are surprised when Zuko actually uses that particular justification in a speech explaining his new values.
For example, they could have had a clip of him at the General’s meeting last episode questioning a FN attack plan because of the Earth Kingdom civilians that would be hurt. Or a quick scene of him doing calligraphy, writing the name of one of the people he has met during his journeys. Or a dream sequence that flashes back to relevant scenes from, “Zuko Alone.” Those are all cheap tools (there are better options) to let us know of his internalization of this issue while staying within character.
Again, I’m not surprised by Zuko’s choice; its the right one that should have been made last season. But the whole, “War sucks, we suck cause we bring war, we need peace to help the people” bit Zuko threw at his father seemed to come out of nowhere.
He might have escaped right before it happened. His timing makes me wonder: did Iroh KNOW about the invasion beforehand? Otherwise it seems a damn big coincidence that he decided to escape on the day of this invasion.
doing that without the assist of the sun ray lol .
LOL yeah he kicked all types of ass…without a supermeter.:bgrin:
ep 10 and 11 are out, already previewed it as real after getting it from bt
lot of cool things happen in this episode
my thoughts…
-
Azula is freaking broken to the point of stupidity… she has moves that would make Tai Lee jealous… now I realize that Zuko was pretty pimp without his bending skills as well(when he wore the mask)… but way to make air-bending look useless… the added mobility was the only thing that made it par with the other benders… and he can’t even catch up to her…
-
I’m always surprised how well Toph can “see”… did I see her accurately jump through a 5 foot diameter hole? I don’t think jumping long distance is good for a person who sees through their feet
-
Sokko was an idiot… the whole episode made it look like he was becoming a capable leader and he pulls a stunt like that… how much time did he waste on interrogating her? they certainly thought that they had enough time to get Ozai… so it had to be a good 5 minutes… he should have cut off her limbs… but of course, it’s a kid’s show… I just laugh at the fact that after the initial 1 minute of blaming himself, he completely got over it… later on, he just looks at Aang like “don’t worry, it’s not your fault… it’s nobody’s fault, really…”
-
Ozai can use lightening? I guess I should have seen that coming… for some reason, I was under the assumption that only Azula and Iroh could use lightening… I guess that means anyone who is l33t can use lightening… makes you wonder if there are any other metal benders out there…
-
you really can’t be surprised that Aang and crew fucked up… it’s only episode 11… I just didn’t like HOW they screwed up… I would have had more respect for Sokka as a man, if they actually spent those minutes SAVING Suki and the others… instead, they let Ozai live, Azula gets away, and Suki is still stuck in jail somewhere…
-
I really hope they dedicate a future episode on Iroh’s escape… especially because of how the prison guard described it… He must have perfomed a BEASTING of a lifetime…
-
finally, on Zuko’s turnaround(?)… If Zuko becomes Aang’s teacher, I will be very disappointed… It’s starting to feel like Captain Planet all of a sudden… Because it’s a kid’s show that will probably be how it turns out… I really wish they didn’t reveal Zuko’s avatar heritage… it’s almost as if he is DESTINED to be a good guy now… the reason Zuko was my favorite character(next to Toph) for most of the series was because he was such a wildcard… You weren’t quite sure which side he would end up on… and that’s what I hoped the series would continue to do… IMO, it would have been much cooler if Zuko didn’t make his choice until the very last episode… I figured at the last moment, Zuko would appear to kill Aang, but finally does what’s right and saves him… leading to a Aang vs. Ozai and Zuko vs. Azula match-up… I figured he was saving his lightening-redirect for Azula as a KO move, but instead used it on Ozai to momentarily stun him… oh well, there’s still plenty of episodes left for more plot twist, so hopefully they will come up with something badass…
So i just saw day of black sun…yeah i know you all have already seen it but i decided to wait and watch it on TV. I’ll have to go back and read all the posts about the episodes (ive been avoiding this thread to make sure i didnt see any spoilers.
im pissed sokka didnt just stab azula…she obviously wasnt going to say anything…but it is a nick show so i can see how they dont want to just strait show something like that. but who cares about azula now…by the size of the fire lords lightning blast he appears to be stronger than azula and we pretty much know he has that same sort of deceitful intelligent sort of personality like azula but w/e
also im looking forward to seeing a flash back of uncles escape…“one man army”
im disappointed that it looks like zuko will be teaching aang…i always hoped that it would be uncle. though im glad that zuko didnt try and stay and fight which i thought would have been so like him…say one thing get pissed off then do another…this time he stuck to what he said and he left in a pretty bad ass fashion. though im surprised hes not out looking for his mother.
now that zuko has decided to help the avatar is the combustible man not going to be a factor any more is azula now gonna higher him or will he get his revenge on the avatar for what happened
and im still waiting for those other air benders that the special edition nick magazine promised
Geez, don’t jump to conclusions. Just because Zuko is gonna join Aang doesn’t mean Zuko will be the one training Aang in fire-bending. More than likely it will be Uncle. Uncle has the skill and the knowledge.
