I think it could be decompressed to like 3 seasons. It took him a year to learn all those elements to face Vaatu at the harmonic convergence like it took Aang to learn the remaining elements in one year to face Ozai during the comet.
I don’t think it would be as good tho
Crazy that Bryke had this origin story idea since atla but were hesitant on it
While the wan story was great, it was waay to similar to Aang’s story. “have one element, travel for the world to learn all the other elements, and then fight a final boss”
That origins story doesn’t really explain how there are nations with different abilities. You can say that fire tribe, yes. But what about the other elements? Seems the lion turtles always took away the abilities once they went into the village. Just a small “So, we’ll give you the power and then bounce.” Would suffice, IMO. Just to explain it.
That’s only true for the fire lion turtle. The airbenders got to keep their bending when they fled back to their lion turtle city. We didn’t even see how water and earth lion turtle cities operate.
all the lion turtles went to the background after the avatar was born…for all we know they gave bending to whoever wanted it similar to how Wan’s friend’s group got bending when the willingly left their city
I see. Thought all Lion Turtles had the same motto. I wonder what the lion turtles are doing now. Centuries game of poker. Still looking for the 5th player though.
I can’t see Unalaq releasing Vaatu just to see the world go to shit. I’m guessing Vaatu is already controlling him somehow so he can release himself from the spirit world.
Or he can be trying to do what pretty much everyone has been speculating and convince Vaatu to merge with him into some kind of dark avatar.
He obviously has always resented Tonraq. To see his niece with a power he most definitely wants (and probably thinks he deserves) pretty much makes the situation ripe for him to try something like that.
people asking how can such an origin occur…well remember how far the line of Avatars have come and what every possible thing could have occurred in the centuries from Wan to Korra.
that being said, I loved this hour of seeing into the past. Wan was awesome and I enjoyed every moment of it! This is clearly the highlight of Korra’s series.
Scar is probably being tricked by Palpatine’s Spirit the same way Wan was, because it’s clear he’s traversing the Spirit Realm to conspire with something (hence his ability to Spiritbend). Unalaq doesn’t seem like he’s the world destroying type, but seeing how he stole the throne, he might be brokering with forces he can’t possibly control.
No doubt! The only minor gripe I had was Wan bullying people trying to get a damn meal for their village (the catdeer). Are they secretly trying to promote vegetarianism? lol
It had a supporting cast, it is just that most of them only appeared at certain point in Wan’s life and when they all got together some of them wound up killing the others off screen. Yeah, as great as those episodes were, Wan’s life if really explored probably would have been too depressing since aside from beating Vaatu and bonding with the spirits near his old village everything else he failed at or went horribly wrong.
I was thinking the hidden message was break away from life if your situation sucks. The rich had it all and Wan had to rally those together to break away from their control… Leaving the city for a better life… Like how the US is now i would consider what Wan did… If i could be a fire bender too.
Now back to the veggie lovers angle, i guess bonding with all of nature can make a man give up meat but not me. Animals eat other animals so thats natural. Circle of life after all!
