Avatar: The Legend of Korra - Book 4

Like that can actually be a crazy storyline
Word spreads the Avatar was injured/killed by a spirit and that she’s a homewrecker to a rising movie star. The paparazzi and media don’t play a part as big as last season. Mako turning into a big detective and Asami being a corporate juggernaut. We might get a spirit world moment before we see Zuko’s daughter and himself.
Toph? Level-Headed!?

Shades of Fullmetal Alchemist going on with this show, I like it.

5 episodes in and the writing for this season seems to be a bit of a mess. A lot of character interactions and reactions feel forced and cliched. The pacing of the episodes are very awkward due to having to split screen time with multiple characters who’s story lines are not directly interacting with each other yet. This season feels very shaky with a lack of an end goal that last season had.

Serpent and Infernoman basically share my exact sentiments. There’s a difference between being surly or terse like Toph/Lin and a completely unstable and unlikable bitch like Korra.

I browsed through the previous season and the character growth she had in the last 6 episodes seems absolutely pointless this season. Why apologize to Tenzin and admit that you’ve endangered peoples’ lives by being hotheaded and impulsive, only to do the same shit next season? Why ignore Tenzin’s tutelage and distrust him after expressing gratitude and realizing he has your best interest at heart? From an entertainment and plot standpoint it just feels unrewarding, because even when Korra predictably makes amends, it will look rehashed and forced by the mechanics of the plot.

Korra doesn’t feel like a main character or “The Avatar”, just some multi-bending character. Fortunately, the supporting cast and humor is carrying the show.

I enjoyed the scenes with Tenzin’s family, it almost feels like their interactions are the only naturally cohesive bonding on the show. Meelo learns a hard life lesson in a funny way, and you get more an insight of Tenzin’s mindset.

Best line of the episode was “Being Alpha Lemur sure is lonely.”

My only way to even provide any logic for all of this is that Aang was 12 thus wasn’t quite going through puberty just yet thus he had in him his childlike innocence when it came to dealing with the enemy by as he himself said being clever. Because of this and how he was raised, it shows that he while did make some choices based on emotion, always knew what the right thing to do was even if that meant doing something that wasn’t what he in his heart wanted. The Air nomads taught Aang very well it seems for him to handle thing like he did. The very Firelord who threatened everything wasn’t killed but merely detained. Kid show or not, for Aang to do that showed a LOT of maturity.

Korra is well into her teens and while thus in a sense should have more experience in growing but well…as some have said before, It’s BECAUSE she’s a teen is the reason why she makes bad choices but for me that is a poor excuse even the writers should know better than to do. Sexist as it may sound a bit but her girly emotions show she’s more bitchy teen girl than Avatar material and I hope that Mako breaking up with her will show her what her place is. Now while she has had her parents raise her, I don’t know how else that or others have affected how she acts but judging on the show and the cultures, Water Tribe folk are true to the water they bend, calm one moment and a raging storm the next. Example of this are well…Katarra, (but she did grow), Eska currently, the Water Tribe Avatar Aang spoke with in the finale when he was conflicted with how to handle the Firelord, The old woman who taught Katarra Bloodbending and I’m sure there’s others I cannot think of at the moment.

Maybe as I look at it, it’s just a water tribe girl thing…The men while some have shown to be at worst sexist, seem level headed somewhat…albeit also dicks if they hold a position of power.

So…thank (blame) Nature or Nurture?

No one is asking Korra to behave perfectly, but when you go PMS’ing to your bf’s work place, start yelling in front of everyone, and kick his desk embarassing him further, you are being a dumb bitch and people are going to dislike you.

I am sure it was probably hard for the writers. They were told to prep for 1 season and had it pretty much done when the word came down they would be getting another 2. Korra’s main character flaw/arc was learning humility and to not be such a hot head. They are now having her relearn a lot of that because a mature, wiser character wouldn’t make for the drama and as we have seen in the previous season and this one so far, the writers of Korra’s show like/want this series to be more personality based drama then The Last Airbender was.

Yeah, it does seem strange and unappealing that the title character seems to have devolved into the least likeable one (and not even trying to be humorous like certain other animated prime time shows) but they are no doubt going somewhere. The problem of course is probably that they seem to have lost the courage they had in the previous Avatar series of focusing completely away from the title character. We never really saw Aang angst much because the writers had no problem shifting the focus from him to other characters. Aside from the flashback at the end of last season and parts where it focused on action Korra has been pretty heavily focused on its title character and how others relate to her. Which why I was surprised they seemed to break up Tenzin and his family from Korra’s story even though it is obvious the two will dove tail into one another at some point, but his whole deal with his family or the most recent cliffhanger will hopefully inspire more episodes where other characters take centerstage and the writers won’t have to rely on her creating or spreading drama to give Korra something to do in her own show.

That’s where those fools fucked up.

I feel like the only person in the world who didn’t adore Aang. Probably one of my least favorite characters in the original show during allot of points.

I didn’t like Aang all that much at first, but, like all good characters should, he showed development and grew from a little kid who ran away from his problems into the true Avatar and displayed maturity and poise like someone befitting the title should.

Korra still has a long way to go to match the beauty of Aang’s character arc. However, she doesn’t have the backdrop of a massive, world-consuming war to force her to grow, either.
Hopefully her little detour into the spirit world will grant her the clarity of perspective to stop being so single-minded and emotional in her approach.

Did the writers want that or did Nickelodeon want that? Those fuckers always pushing teen show BS now forcing cartoons to go that route.

Personally, I’m okay with Korra being her immature-self since I don’t usually criticize characters or the show in general until after I’ve completed it. Because of so, however, I was conflicted with the whole Mako/Korra thing. It’s not that I hated the romance, but I didn’t want Korra to become this lovey-dovey, submissive softie because she got a boyfriend, and it slightly bugged me until they broke up. It seems that so far the show is becoming a character drama, or has elements of one. While Korra is dealing a civil war, her boyfriend dumps her, her cousins are out of kidnap her, and she got rid of her instructor who treated her like his own daughter. With her struggling to find allies to prepare for the war, she’s literally alone again. Bolin’s basking in the limelight and his brother doesn’t really have it easy as a cop. Asami’s putting up a strong front but is struggling with running her father’s business due to his past wrong-doings. Lastly, we have Tenzin spending time with his family due to no longer being Korra’s instructor.

On another note, I hope Asami gets more screentime. It was nice to see her join in on the mission to save Tonraq, and I’d like to see her in a fight scene without her Equalist glove.

And then blames everyone for her mistakes.

LMAO Bolin’s movie

Spoiler

Damn Mako is like James Gordon

Mako HAS to have a sizable d. There is no other redeeming quality.

The Adventures of Nuturk can have all of my money.
Fuck, /co/ called it when they theorized Varrick was the true villain. Please don’t be the villain. I like you too much ;_;
I wonder what Unalaq is doing in the spirit world. And I guess Korra is at that island where the fire sages have their temple
