Avatar: The Legend of Korra - Book 4

Hugs Proud of you for this. Don’t see it a lot on the net.

I remember watching Korra and LOVING every episode but feeling it was rushed with a lack of development. I was disappointed until I found out it was locked in to have limited episodes, now I’m actually impressed they did what they did with what they were allowed to have.

I don’t get Nick though. Why couldn’t they trust them to make a new trilogy? These two men made one of the most successful shows ever aired on the channel. Why would they go “Thanks for making this show… buuuuuuut we don’t really trust you for more than just a mini-sequel…” then are shocked it does so well? I mean did it really surprise anyone that the sequel was actually compelling?

Had they been given more trust, it’d have been even BETTER~ and yet, what has those two writers done to break that trust? What have they done to show they couldn’t make a quality show? They have nothing but a good track record, and a firm understanding of good storyline and character building… even handcuffed as they were… they turned Korra into something wonderful.

I hope this shows Nick to back off and show some more support to these guys until they actually fail at bringing home the bacon… if they want to do a brand new show, starring whatever in whatever, they should let them do it, because honestly, why the fuck not?

Justice League was tits from beginning to end.

They where probably nervous because the movie was a bust. While that wasn’t the fault of the guys who make the show, try explaining that to a board of directors.

Okay, no problem

Board of Directors…M. Night Shymalan made that movie. I rest my case.

They’d still feel uneasy. Probably need to hire hookers to give BJ’s while you did that longwinded and technical explanation so they feel relaxed … Just a suggestion.

52 episodes … fuck yeah!

Naw, they’ll just tell you no one has interest in the IP. They don’t know names. Only numbers, and only the most recent numbers.

When will you change the title of this thread?

cliffnotes

[details=Spoiler]

Book 2 is called Spirits and we will get some nice Spirit World trips.

It takes place after a 6 month time skip.

Mako’s part of the Republic City Police.

Asami has taken over Future Industries.

Bolin is trying to find himself and might be gathering a new pro bending team.

Season 2 will still primarily be in Republic City, but will now expand a bit outside the city, like with the Southern Air Temple and most featured, the Southern Water Tribe (which admittedly, we’ve seen in a grand total of what, 4 episodes in both series combined?).

We get to see more Bumi, and we get to see the last of Aang’s children, Kya as well.

Korra’s family gets some focus as well.

Implications show that yes, Korra can indeed enter the Avatar State at will (which means she’s pretty much Fully Realized).

And the first enemy she faces is a black, reptilian ghost of a creature. No shortage of spirits apparently.[/details]

my take

[details=Spoiler]

Pretty much the things I thought they could do, they’re doing already. Spirit World niceness, keeping Korra as a Fully Realized Avatar, more Bumi. A time skip should be pretty interesting, six months is a good deal of time, but not too outrageous (looking at you Young Justice with your 5 years).

I’m pretty interested to see what they do with Bolin. With Asami, Mako and Korra all having full time duties to attend to now, I wonder what he’s gonna do. Yeah, a new pro bending team is nice and all, but I want to see him go further than that. Training with Lin would be awesome, or hell, train with Bumi.

Mako as a policeman seems…pretty boring…right in tune with him in the first season. It also brings in a cliche opportunity in putting him and Korra at odds considering Korra’s knack for collateral damage.

Asami taking over Future Industries is…nice I guess. It could possibly stress her out.

Can’t wait to see more of the Southern Water Tribe. We never got to see too terribly much of it over both series, and I think it deserves its own shine. Korra’s family getting some focus is great too. I wonder how they handle all of Korra’s dealings in Republic City.

No mention of Lin though…interesting. Actually, no mention of Tenzin either. That worries me…I want more Lin. [/details]

I like that season 2 is gonna focus on the Spirits and the Water tribes. Water tribes must be the least developed of all the cultures in the series.

Yay, thread title change!

im curious the differences about the different tribes.

in father water tribe you learn to bend water but in mother water tribe water learns to bend you.

boooooooooo

I’m interested in knowing how misogynistic culture of the Northern tribe came to be and if still lingers.

they seem very traditional it probably exists maybe not as bad as before. and how it came to be is probably like every other tribal culture.

Oh, saitsu beat me to it, was gonna post the comic con stuff. This has me very excited, for one it means we might not have to deal with mako and korra dating since its set 6 months later and she proll realized he is a complete dirt bag. Seriously though, im excited to see how they expand on everything this season, plus I guess putting korra in the spirit world should help alleviate “balance” issues and not make her seem too powerful. Overall, everything they said at the panel makes me a happy korra fan, can’t wait to see some art.

The biggest question is…what are they gonna name the last two seasons? We’re running out of names.

Anything they want?

(Anyone keeping up with that side-comic to fill us in? I’m totally ignorant of it.)

Heard/saw the announcement that they were getting 40 more episodes total when it was originally posted. Saw no reason to post about it, especially since I’ve been trying to think where they would go (read: where I would/could go) the series/first “season” ended and unlike Avatar: The Last Airbender there’s no overarching “Bigger Bad” in the form of Ozai that’s going to take all episodes to confront and take down.

However, now seeing just the cliffnotes that Saitsu posted, I noticed quite a few eerie similarities:

In Before Fanfiction

[details=Spoiler]1. Book 2 is called Spirits and we will get some nice Spirit World trips. - Seemed extremely obvious. However, now I’m unsure what they’ll call Book 3. “Avatar(s)”? “Energy”? (Anyone saying “Heart” can go hit themselves in the balls.)

  1. It takes place after a 6 month time skip. - The idea I had in my head was there would be at least a three month time skip. I figured that 6 months would probably be the “limit” before it started to feel too “extreme”; that and before the most “delicious” of the left-over drama from the Asami-Mako-Korra triangle potentially dried up.

  2. Asami has taken over Future Industries. - Again, seemed extremely obvious, especially due to the above dumping and the fact that she’s pretty much the only Sato left. As much as she might have issues with her father now (due to the whole “trying to kill you” thing), she’s always seemed responsible and reserved. I wouldn’t be surprised if we got evidence of it stressing her, but not necessarily (just) for reasons of having taken over as acting President.

  3. Season 2 will still primarily be in Republic City, but will now expand a bit outside the city, like with the Southern Air Temple and most featured, the Southern Water Tribe (which admittedly, we’ve seen in a grand total of what, 4 episodes in both series combined?). - I had anticipated this, though more the (Southern) Air Temples and not the Southern Water Tribe, which is admittedly a welcome surprise.

  4. We get to see more Bumi, and we get to see the last of Aang’s children, Kya as well. - Also expected this given how Bumi got no speaking role last time and how Tenzin just had son that was born, so I figure Kya would come down to visit for that. Also potentially for other reasons, but I’m personally expecting her to be the “deadly serious” one of the three siblings.

  5. Implications show that yes, Korra can indeed enter the Avatar State at will (which means she’s pretty much Fully Realized). - While my version of Korra was/is probably going to be weaker than the canon one, I expected her to be able to go into the Avatar State (almost) at will, if admittedly only when pissed or stressed though.

  6. And the first enemy she faces is a black, reptilian ghost of a creature. No shortage of spirits apparently. - While I didn’t expect Ghost Reptar, I expected some more spirits, if admittedly mostly concerning myself with Koh and previous Avatars (and dead Amon and/or Tarrlok).[/details]

Maybe I thought about only the obvious shit (and not even all of it).

Besides what Saitsu pointed out about not seeing, I do have some other reservations:

In Before Mako Hate Fics

[details=Spoiler]Well, besides the whole “Mako becomes a policeman, Bolin does/did not” thing coming out of left field for me (even if it sort of makes sense on poor Bolin’s part), I’m feeling rather…odd about no Equalist mentions. If they’re just nonchalantly mentioned as having been taken care of in the six months in between because they were probably shambles after Amon, Hiroshi and the Lieutenant (that guy seriously needs a name) “left”, then I guess I’ll just have to accept that.

However, if all the bender and non-bender tension is suddenly taken care of in that same time (partly) just because Korra can turn her eyes all glowy and white now, then I’m going to probably be forced to call bullshit.[/details]

I wouldn’t take the lack of Equalist mentions too seriously. Even if they still have a presence, I doubt it would be too much of an issue. After what happened, I doubt any new leader would try to take them to extremes like Amon. Also, like I said, Tenzin and Lin also didn’t get much mention, but I figure they’ll be around, so that’s a wait and see thing.

As for the side comic, yeah I’m keeping up with it. The Promise will soon finish with Part 3, which I assume has Aang someone averting the spark of a new war, and then we start with the Search where we finally get down to the mystery of Zuko’s mom, Ursa…and psycho crazy bitch Azula returns even more psycho and crazy than before.
