So… anti blood bending tech is blood bending your own body
The feeling of flat characters might be due to the length of the mini series. I mean… there wasn’t a lot of character defining moments but then there weren’t a lot of moments either. And while in any 10 eps of TLA there could be plenty of character defining moments… there is not as much plot progression by contrast, but then they had 4 longer seasons and multiple sub plots to play with too. LOK could have benefited from a full seasons worth of eps, but i don’t think it is hurting for not getting it.
yeah, that mask zuko wore… although if Iroh was Irohman he could suit up and bend all blue flames and bend arcs of lightning from equality gloves.
Irohman 2.0… he breaks when bending just isn’t enough.
I’m not familiar with the stuff after the TLA and before LOK, but i thought it be hard to get a small cult of prodigy benders (breakers) without ties to a TLA master bender.
key point: i need blue flames in LOK season 2
Side notes:
Amon thought the avatar (aang) was a bully to his dad
Amon thought his dad was a bully to his bro and him
Amon bullied his dad
Amon bullied the avatar (korra)
Amon thought his dad and bro were weak
Amon thought he was stronger than both
Amon thought the avatar (aang) was stronger than him
Amon wanted to be equal to the avatar in strength
Amon hated his dad for his over bearing ways…
Amon hated that his brother was weak and timid
Amon wanted to equalize the playing field…
Amon wanted to please his father (destroy the avatar)
He can have kids, you know. Teach his kids how to blood bend just how his dad taught them. Plus, it’s not one man ruling, but the philosophy of equality ruling. Once everybody believes benders are “impure” and dethrone them from their social status, then nonbenders will essentially have a higher standing. People with abilities would be shunned and they’d probably hide the fact that they can bend.
But you’re right. He can’t do it alone. That’s why he got a following. Even when he dies, he’d have set in place the belief that bending = impure.
i replied to you last page, so i don’t want to recap so much, but i think its fine that there are possibilities of it happening, but the story (especially now since its closed) never stated any need to expand on his plan besides just bloodbending peoples powers away. you can fanfic whatever you want in that he WOULD have done, but there was nothing stated explicitly and no indication that he was willing to take those steps in order to achieve his goal.
it isn’t so much that it isn’t possible, its that it wasn’t written that he was even the type of person to think about this or follow through knowing that the next generations would be able to bend, and the only reason you know this is because in the same episode the pretty much tell you its possible. seems like poor writing to undermine your own grand scheme in the same episode without closing it out definitively or making amon seem less like a dreamer and more of a person with a plan.
Good interview. Guess I’ll have to add another GN to my collection. I’m glad to see Azula getting some panel time. Hopefully, she hasn’t gone full batshit loco while in the crazy house.
I’m really not into shipping, but damn, Asami really got fucked over by Mako and he gets no retribution at all except getting to tap some Avatar ass. Here’s to hoping Asami takes over the family business now that her old man is out of the picture and can maintain Future Industry’s standing so she can become the Ms. Independent of the Avatar world so she can rely on no man.
We got more Avatar material on the way. After “The Promise” concludes in September we gonna get a new Avatar comic called “The Search”. It’ll tell the story of Zuko search for his mom.
I can dig it. Honestly, I like Mako’s growth in the series, with respect to his abilities, but the way he handled his relationship with Asami just brought him down a few notches for me.
“Like yeah, I TECHNICALLY cheated on you, but she doesn’t have to know. And if she does ask and there’s a conveniently more pressing issue at hand, I’ll just dodge the question and say ‘we have more important things to worry about, like finding Korra and the war with the Equalists!’”
As GDLK as every episode of TLK is I have one big gripe about the series that I hope is addressed properly in season 2, although it’s a flaw in many other shows too that’s rarely dealt with.
Also a preemptive FUCK YOU to those who are so lazy and stupid they can only respond to my possible complaint with a “lol it’s a kid’s show it doesn’t have to make any sense”.
Republic city citizens
[details=Spoiler]So going by season 1 alone and no outside speculation or information we can conclude that the equalist movement is basically dead solely because Amon was exposed and lied about his origin. Hundreds if not thousands of people truly believed all benders to be bullies and hated them enough to be willing to establish a totalitarian dictatorship witch hunt stripping all benders of their natural abilities. After engaging in such discriminatory, immoral behavior born out of genuine hate and fear they simply forget they ever felt that way because their leader lied? WTF?! I can understand how crestfallen equalists would feel especially mustachioed man after finding out the movement is built on a lie however, Amon’s deception in no way invalidates the real fears and insecurities his movement sought to address so it really doesn’t make sense for the former equalists to just give up and forget how they felt just cause one guy lied.
So…what Korra and all other benders especially the ones who had their bending taken away are just supposed to say “hey your leader is dead and Korra gave me my bending back so we’re cool no hard feelings ^_^”? I mean seriously I hope the show wasn’t dare suggesting that all those negatively affected by the equalist movement are willing to just forgive and forget since Amon is dead, that would be truly flawed story telling from both an emotional and logical perspective not to mention going against the tone established by the previous 11 episodes.
TL;DR
Former equalists better be punished or TLK has piss poor moral consistency.[/details]
That is the most legitimate complaint of all, orochi.
I really hope that the bender/non-bender issues continue to be a thing in the next season. I really feel like they dropped the ball by making Amon’s whole deal a farce (it sucked with Ghetsis and it sucked here too). Maybe it’ll turn out that the Lieutenant didn’t actually die (yay for kids’ show ambiguity) and he’ll lead a real revolution and do all the things that Amon should have done in season one.
To be honest Orochi… that problem would never be solved. There will always be people with the “Equalist” mentality somewhere in the world and try to do it again. At least with TLA the main villain was a corrupted Fire Nation which was solved when Aang/Zuko kicked Ozai’s butt and unified the people again. I don’t think something like that can happen in TLK given the nature of any Equalists that remained. It would have to be some sort of ongoing saga of peace to try for benders/non-benders to get along. Aside from eating a Care Bear Stare and forgetting their issues, I don’t think it will be an easy problem to fix. Even for a full fledged Avatar.
Orochi’s issue is that it looks like they are just going to pretend the “these people are still Equalists even without Amon there” issue doesn’t exist.
