Avatar: The Legend of Korra - Book 4

The bitching about the romance has been really funny to because we get about 5 minutes of it per episode and people are acting like it’s taking over the show when it’s been so far away from doing that. The only people bringing up shipping in this thread are the people bitching about the incredibly minimal amount of it.

Shut the fuck up.

who wants to see more of the same. The spirit world has only had the surface grazed and so there is a lot of stuff they could create and flesh out in that area. I mean how did the facestealer take the face of an avatar’s wife? The spirit world seems to be fairly detached from the real so seeing how it does effect the real world could definitely create some drama that could be cool.

Also the series definitely could have been continued as literally less than 4 min. of footage would need to be altered to allow a continuation. I like what I got, but would have liked to have it drawn out a bit more. Wanting more of a good thing is hardly a complaint.

Fully realized avatar’s have avatar state … so no human is a legitimate threat. It’s like Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen, the best firebender in the world is no competition against a fully realized avatar. There’s definitely angles they could go that could be interesting, but petty crime against the avatar isn’t one of them (except for comedic purposes).

Yea but we haven’t seen a Avatar be an Avatar at all. That would be brand new.

We got flashbacks of Roku, Aang, and Kiyoshi. You know what they did when faced with adversity? Avatar state -> win. Besides that it was mostly bureaucratic nonsense. I mean they could make stuff up for Korra, but they didn’t show a lot of Aang being a fully realized avatar because doing so would be pointless except as fan service.

Aang -> Yakone.
Kiyoshi->Created an island for her people.
Roku->Sozin (Scared Sozin into submission by displaying the power of the avatar state).
Roku->Volcano (only reason he lost was he DIDN’T use avatar state : / nub)

On that note, I want to see if Bumi is as awesome as his name sake.

I’ve been thinking that too I think next season would go into the “job” of the avatar and see if Korra can handle it. Kind of like Rodimus after getting the Matrix of Leadership.

Sent from Hueco Mundo using Garganta Talk.

Right. wouldn’t it be nice to see them expand on a role that is apparently so fucking important to the world instead of just dodging the Avatar actually doing their job?

I sure would. Even with 4 seasons under their belt it’s hard to see why people care about the Avatar so much cuz all we know about their proper duties is “They represent the people” but how? That doesn’t really tell us anything as we haven’t seen any of them do that. Some of the best parts of Korra was the politics. Watching Tarlock using his influence to strengthen his position.

They didn’t show much of Aang being the Avatar because it’s Korra’s show, not his, so use Korra too show us what they couldn’t with Aang. The Avatars real job is mostly political. Show us that. Don’t show us stuff that has very little to do with them doing their proper job.

Spirit Relm is like…Side Story stuff to me. I wanna see an Avatar being a proper avatar. Not chasing ghosts. I’m not saying they shouldn’t show Korra getting more in touch with her Spiritual side because they definitely should, but I don’t think it should be the focus point of Season 2.

it was a fast-paced show, i’ll give you that. however, the jump into perfect spirituality due to a traumatizing event was just completely off-putting. not only that, but it was literally a 5 minute barrage of tying up every single loose end in every single mental and physical conflict that carried itself through the entire series. some of it made sense in the context of closure (e.g. tarlok’s saving grace, korra’s ability to only airbend), but other events just got rushed through to such a large degree (e.g. avatar state, love triangle, restoring the bending of everyone who lost it).

such a brief interaction with aang granted her the ability to solve all of her own problems. i don’t want to call it a copout due to its constant existence in both series (contact with previous avatars/the avatar state provides the knowledge and power of all previous avatars), but it was conveyed as such an easy action to her, even though korra herself was described as a spiritual failure.

i believe that, in the context of how the show could progress, this “training” you yeasayers speak of would have been very interesting, especially if it forced her into an environment that neither she, nor us as fans, really understand. it also could have been cool to have some sort of second “revolution” stemming from anger from those who had lost their bending during amon’s time as an OP bloodbending asshole.

the characterization that was so amazing throughout the series was just sort of thrown away in the finale, in my opinion

I really want a Kuruk episode. It seemed like dude REALLY FUCKED UP. Talk about an Avatar failure. Do it just to show what can happen to Korra.

And why wasn’t the Northern Water Tribe living in their Palace? Did I miss apart where they migrated or something?

I think most peoples complaints about the ending could’ve been addressed with an extra 5 minutes of show time and a few months time skip between finding out Katara can’t restore her bending - Korra getting her bending back. Time skips solve everything.

Still doesn’t discredit the rest of the series or make it any less awesome. Enjoyed this series just as much as the original.

Yeah I thought this was weird. I figured it was some random village outside the palace we saw in TLA.

Looked like a compound. Had huge high walls and buildings built for utility instead of comfort.

A great ending to a great season. After all the speculation, the Amon reveal ended up being grounded in the fiction’s reality, and sensible given past events. Looking forward to season 2.

Iroh is beast. Mako finally went full beast like I’ve been waiting for. Asami was beast. Even Bolin was beast.

EDIT - Am I honestly the only one with no problem at all with the shipping and romance angles? Horny teenagers with complicated feelings and stressful responsibilities. Romance and relationships ain’t so neat and tidy.

Good that Mako realistically kept avoiding the topic with Asami.
Good that Mako and Korra still realize their connection and end up together in the end.
Good derka derka, so derka derka Dr. B man moist making.

See that’s the problem. “Expand” into what? Lliterally NOTHING can be a real challenge if they avatar state. I mean the only adversaries I can think they bring against korra as a fully realized avatar are from the spirit world as bending doesn’t work in the spirit world. Humans just get rofl stomped. The end duties of an avatar are to basically be a force of good which entails being a politician that can bully an entire nation into doing “what is best” by being an omnipotent force if negotiations fail (aka kyoshi->Earth King, roku->Sozin, Aang->Ozai). It’s a bit juvenile but literally that’s what the avatar does. Only in the absence of the avatar were the nations allowed to do as they pleased which resulted in the fire nation conquest and annihilation of the air monks.

Only person doing any “politics” was Tarlock and that was only interesting because he was trying to capitilize on the threat that Amon presented. I liked that part also, but it wouldn’t have been as good without Amon. They need to substitute in a new threat and without going all DBZ it’s going to be hard against a fully realized avatar.

Bleh, I’ll just be happy with what I got and hope they make something great with the next 14 episodes. Just think they missed a huge opportunity by tying up all the loose ends in the first season.

Considering the BIG Anti-Bending movement from the first season I doubt people would be very happy is Korra just billied their asses into doing what she wanted by using the Avatar State. Amon may be gone but a lot of the sentiments he stirred up are going to persist. If the writers are smart, they wont let Korra get away with just being a bully. Aang specifically set up Republic City’s government the way he did so that it wasn’t a situation where he could get what he wanted just by going Avatar State. Shits overseen by a committee and a vote.

Besides the shows needs smart villains. Not powerful ones. Need to challenge the goodguys on an intellectual level. Not a power one. That’s how you end up with the DBZ style stuff in the first place.

You can have a powerful villain if the hero finds ways to win that don’t involve overpowering.

I’m not trying to say you can’t, I’m saying we should focus on smarts over power. Amon’s very powerful but a good portion of that power came from how smart he was and not how powerful his bending was (tho it was quite powerful bending). He put himself in positions that favored an outcome that benefited him instead of just going “I’m strong!” Blood Bends people

All of you saying that the Avatar can just ROMFLSTOMP! HERP…X-FACTOR AVATAR STATE! any enemy she encounters clearly haven’t watched this season.
Why didn’t Aang just take yakone’s bending away immediately after someone reported Yakone being able to bloodbend? There’s a due process now, and the avatar has to be fair.

Even aang and all his avatar-state couldn’t have stopped Amon, because Amon represented an idea that many people believed in, and you can’t kill an idea. Amon’s movement is fair, and if Korra just straight up killed him(without revealing who he was), then there would be a lot of people angry at the avatar.
The avatar can’t just avatar state her way into his/her enemies because he/she have to do what is right. The thing is usually, no side is right, and there is the awesome dilemna we can see in season 2.
I don’t know if some of you guys have read “The Promise”, the avatar comic followup to TLA. The best part of the comic was Zuko struggling on how to be fire lord. He wanted to do what was right, but he realizes that there is no right side. Whatever decision he does, someone is going to get hurt/angry about it.
I can definitely see Korra struggling on being an avatar, especially with her temper.

I dont see why having a OP villain is a issue, its more exciting to watch when it comes to action and personally it would be boring to see characters"talk"their way through battles. He can have some wit and good characterization as well, but I was never fond of characters like lex or joker just because it seemed like a lame way to avoid writing action.

Because it’s not compelling. It’s just an excuse to for people to hit eachother and this series is better then that. You don’t really seem to care much about quality writing and just want wall to wall action. This isn’t the show for you if that’s what your looking for. Go watch generic Shonen action anime #99 if that’s what your interested in.
