okay, i’ll give you the turtle was a sort of precursor, but in the amon = aang theory, turtle also was able to transfer memories to another person, which would explain why korra could see visions as soon as she first came into contact with amon, and not before.
the lore is pretty fucked up and you can use it to explain anything you want. yeah, it could come up retarded, but nothing concerning the lore can ever take away from any theory.
nah, you guys kept trying hitting me with “well, how about this? how could this happen” i just supplied an answer. your mistake is thinking i was trying to write out a story for you. all i was giving you was what ifs. it didn’t have to be right, it just had to fit.
so of course its not going to turn out great. here you are thinking i’m going full fanfic, but if you read through any of my posts, i’m just deflecting criticism, and you couldn’t do anyhting to definitively stop any theory i had. my intention wasn’t to say “this will happen” it was to say “it could happen”. you guys are the ones speaking in absolutes and how X and Y couldn’t possibly happen, and i gave you reasons. the story tied together was absolute bullshit, but i’m also just one person who’s not a writer. i’m not getting paid tons of money to work with other writers getting paid tons of money to write a story, and yet, i’m over here blowing your mind with some “korra isn’t the avatar” bullshit that you can’t even knock down completely.
it wasn’t even my theory i was defending, and you guys were directing where that story went. yet even in “full retard mode” i could still defend my stances, alot of which with evidence from the story itself, and with just writing in new shit, and made no intention of ever saying “this is what i believe”. i’m fine with whatever the writers come up with, but i’m not sitting around digging in avatar mythology treating a children’s cartoon as if it deals in absolutes, all in hopes to put down other peoples theories.
i had alot of fun just coming up with bullshit, even though all you people acting like i wanted that to go in that direction despite all my claims to the contrary…
Who was it a few pages ago that suggested Aang created an anti-bending squad with help from Ty Lee (explaining the identical fighting styles), then taught one person how to permanently take away someone’s bending? That someone could’ve been Amon, who was playing everyone so he could get access to that power. OR Amon learned the technique from the special someone, either by force or tricking them into telling him.
Republic city cops: “Hey let’s restrain this super powerful blood bender with regular ass plain hand cuffs, I’m sure if he’s found guilty he won’t use his powers to escape he’s just too nice a guy to try something like that”
Whoever Amon is, it’s clear his ability to take bending away is connected with Aang’s. Rock’s theory about Aang training at least one person to do it and then that person passing down the ability to Amon (or Amon being really limber for an old man) is the most logical explanation so far. I still think Amon can bend and/or grows stronger every time he takes away someone’s bending, and as great as it would be to see the show end with Korra in Avatar state fighting Amon I think he’s too strong and cunning to let it go down like that, especially since it’s so obvious that such a showdown is inevitable. I think one of the following scenarios is more likely:
He reveals himself to be a good guy playing the “double agent” trope against an even greater threat, probably sacrificing himself in the process.
He was Aang’s favorite but some personal bullshit soured his opinion of the Avatar and he turned evil like the origin of Lucifer but then Aang appears through Korra in avatar state to resolve their differences.
He convinces the vast majority of the world or at least republic city to willingly join the equalists and Korra realizes she can’t beat Amon without looking like the bad guy.
He’s found out to be a bender losing all support for his cause running away or killing himself rather than fighting Korra out of frustration because I think a cocky leader like Amon has too much shame to lash out like most typical villains although I could be giving him too much credit.
Korra kills Amon but he’s then revealed to be some kind of important spirit or being throwing earth out of balance kind of like how the marvelverse would be fucked if anyone killed Galactus.
Sure these sound unlikely but this is a much more complex and ambitious show then Air Bender I really don’t see the typical “strong good guy vs strong bad guy” thing being what it all builds up to, if anything I hope the writers try to top that somehow.
within canon, it is said when an avatar dies in the avatar state, the cycle ceases to continue, and the avatar will cease to exist. what else does that mean? the powers of the avatar cannot be passed on after aang had died. no avatar was generated at the time of aang’s death in ba sing se. the generation of this “avatar” and this theory creates a plothole in the entire concept of the functionality of the avatar. there is your proof.
sure, you can’t use the circular logic your post provides, but you can use canon, and that states what i posted.
also, some “guy” didn’t say it, avatar motherfuckin’ roku explained the entire process of the avatar cycle.
this dual avatar theory is just fundementally flawed on so many levels.
theory 1: they are 2 different avatars, but only partially. one avatar got air and energy bending, the other one got the other 3. when aang dies completely, the flow of power continues onto a new water tribe newborn.
theory 2: the cycle is dictated by the element of the avatar that died. since water comes after air, and the airbender died twice, you get two water tribe avatars.
this second avatar was born in the new era to an unknowning water tribe family, and grew up in republic city, and never even realized he could bend until his family was extorted and killed. aang saves the boy as he’s flipping out doing avatar shit. aang, realizing that dying in the avatar state doesn’t end the progression of power and instead disrupts a flow of energy that had never been tested before, takes the boy under his wing in order to keep him under watch while he tries to fix the flow of power which had been harmed.
aang adopts this kid in as his son, and gave him the cover as a non-bender to hide his identity as the avatar. since he is a water tribe child, and katara is a water bender, no one questions it. they renamed him as bumi, and even though he grew up the avatars son, living in republic city and watching his father allow the town to corrupt under his reign, he leaves to start a rebellion. he may or may not have killed aang, that is probably a thing.
at which point, either one of the two theories comes into play when aang dies, and you have two avatars since aang died before he could fix it.
For the record Amon is relatively young, no old man can move as athletically or fast as he does.
Also I forgot to include another possibility in my last post. Amon could be the anti avatar which gets passed down each generation too but was some kind of secret known to few which would conveniently explain why no one’s heard of such a being before.
Brah, it’s fiction. Need I recall Bumi, who was well over 100 years old and still kicking ass? Aang as a 40 year old man still moves like a man in his prime. Snake was 42-43 in MGS4 (chronically) and older biologically and still taking down heavily armed and younger soldiers with ease. Big Boss is an even better example of it. Hell, DBZ tends to ignore the crap out of age seeing as they noticably age (sometimes) and still fight like they’re in their prime. Not to mention that it’s not like Amon has been doing kickflipping off boulders and stuff.
Point is, Amon could be younger, but age certainly won’t keep the guy from jumping around the place like Spider-Man.
Also, gaisz, what if…Amon is actually Sokka’s boomerang, having taken human form?! It was there during the battle and could’ve wittinessed everything!! (late night bad joke)
fun idea, two problems with it: aang adopts a kid 12 years younger than him? this is the one time where i think the realism police should be knocking on your door.
also, still not canon, so i can’t fully respect it.
yeah, i didn’t really think of the age thing., so good call. the whole bumi thing was for fun anyways, since i wanted to tie that one in as well. but i guess that instance cant work.
still doesn’t change that having 2 avatars still isn’t impossible. as long as the next person in line is still consistently a water tribe member and knowing that (as a viewer) you cannot definitively know what happens when aang dies in avatar state, actual story doesn’t matter. it could happen, so you cannot say with any definitive terms that korra being water tribe is proof of anything.
though its no way a confirmation, i do notice the young 20 somethings tend to do gymnastics style approach. while older people tend to have a very grounded traditional kung fu approach. every person the age of 30 and up tends to be very grounded in their movements. not alot of flippy floppy stuff. also this may have to do with the fact their taking moves from the sport of tricking which is mostly a underground youth oriented sport with its combination of martial arts, gymnastics and bboy style.
I dunno If you guys are aware of this pic that’s been floating around the web the past week, most definitely a fake though.
Apparently the subtitle says “I am your father”
