Avatar: The Legend of Korra - Book 4

tenzin has always been calm and relaxed even when fighting. i want to see him enraged and kick some ass.

It is not Tarrlok that event took place 40 years ago, Tarrlok is 37.

I can’t for this next episode. The last one was so goood. Some major stuff is about go down soon.

Tarlock

Spoiler

Tarlock bringing out his true colors in full force. We all knew it was a matter of time. The rounding up of all the non-benders was some og stuff and when Tarlock ordered the metal benders to grab her friends I was expecting Korra to go into avatar state right then. Her fight with Tarlock was some badass stuff; bringing down the wall behind him and sending him flying through another room. The blood bending took me off guard. Tarlock has to be the best water bender to do it without the need of a full moon. When he walked over to Korra while she was about to fade into unconsciousness it reminded me an awful lot like Amon.

He looks so pissed off (whilst Korra is in the trunk of his car screaming lol).

fuck, you’re right. it was late, i wasn’t thinking right.

Dat “Don’t even think about fucking with me” face and hair.

Spent the entire day watching Book 1 of TLA on Netflix. Going full coach potato mode right now.

That final scene made me think that Tarlok isn’t really a bad guy(as in wants to take over the world type or just want to see the world burn(drown?) type)…a typical baddie would be smiling in this scene, but he had that look that seems like he wished there was another way, he didn’t want the whole situation to go down as it did. On top that he really didn’t straight up use blood bending to begin the fight(in which he coulda won immediately at the beginning).
There’s definitely more to Tarlok than meets the eye, I bet whatever reason he has, it will be a good one.

That isn’t what I got from his facial expression, it seemed more like him being in complete control of the situation up until that point then Korra pushed him over the edge. He reminds me of Lex Luthor in the sense that he does villainous shit whilst maintaining his reputation.

though he was legit surprised by korra’s she-hulk strength. lol. think if aang had all this shit goin down…he wouldnt have been able to survive like her.

he woulda went avatar state(since aang went avatar state pretty easily compared to korra at this point)

Aang wouldn’t have been pinned down so easily as unlike Korra he doesn’t take a rooted stance.

nah he only went that way cause his pussy was in danger. but lets say he wasnt connected to the spirits, wonder what he would have done.

Well Aang was smaller and much faster and more agile than Korra, especially with his airbending. And when Aang gets pissed, he fights pretty damn hard (even outside the avatar state). It’s just that wheras Korra was going to likely kill turcrock, Aang would’ve tried to talk him out of it or something. Because fuck spilling blood.

Also, where’s Naga? Thinking about it now, Korra DID go to Turklok with her. Beardog out to save her owner next episode maybe?

lol good point. appa 2.0 is prob chasing them now.

I was actually thinking something similar. I thought the new team avatar would use her beardog to find her similar to how that June girl from TLA found people using that animal thing that tracked scents.

Speaking of June, am I the only one who thinks Asami looks kinda like her?

You have a lot of valid points here but you have to keep in mind that by writing korra as a extremely weak avatar who is basically free to anyone above average in skill, they are setting her up to be a massive plot device. You see it’s a pretty bad standard in fiction to have the hero be terribly outmatched by a villain only to have some"deep personal strength"come through and excel said hero above the hero. Its a bad writing tool and its pretty damn lame, its the reason Goku ruined the buu saga and why superman ruins his own books. Granted in those cases its a bit more acceptable since superman and goku are intended to be characters inherently a cut above the rest, but with korra we have no such justification to fall behind.

Therefore when the series finally nears its finale we will probably see korra beat amon and all her former bad guys but its not going to feel like a organic progression but rather just a"well we need to leave off on a happy ending so lets just have her beat them all the sudden cause she finally learned how to control her power". By writing her like a giant idiot who’s free as fuck in all her fights the writers are compromising the integrity of "credibility"in regards to her character or the situation. When she beats amon it wont feel like"well she finally leveled up and now she’s a beast"but instead feel kind of lame and seem majorly full of shit…kind of like when goku beat brolly or when wolverine beat lobo. The only way to redeem her character is to have her either just cheat and unlock the avatar state or just make a complete 180 with her skills in the next episode or 2…either way though they set her up terribly and I think any shot her victories have as being"legitimate"are out the window due to her poor portrayal so far.

how is unlocking the avatar state “cheating”?

  1. korra never lost to any average bender btw.
  2. I disagree with this, i think she’s has immense RAW power already. It’s just that her stubborness, and anger gets the best of her when she’s fighting. So if she just calmed down and thought before she moved, she would match Tarlok easy.
She needs to study the chi-blocker matchup, and that’s doable in an episode, since she just got in the city and haven’t encountered chi-blockers before. So control her emotions + chi-blocker matchup knowledge= Top-tier bender.
All the pieces are already there, she doesn’t have to level up her bending at the moment, she just needs to think more.
With the airbending, she already knows the footwork and the forms, so it’s just an attitude change that she needs.

So you think Korra losing to bloodbending is free? everyone would lose to that when they’re not expecting it, even grown-up aang. She had only 1 legit fight so far and that’s with Tarlok, and he bloodbends. All her other fights are either she was ambushed or she just didn’t know the matchups(ie chi-blockers and big daddys).
IMO there’s no OP opponent so far that’s really worth the avatar state(ala Ozai), so I wouldn’t mind if they don’t show the avatar state.
