how’s that for SRK to grasp?
all this bender talk has got me thinking about abnormalities w/ bending or exceptions to the rules. ex if a metal bender magneto style came around and just owned the place or a kind of kung fu art where you can neutralize all types of bending. Then I was thinking if fire benders can do lightning what other kind of alternative powers other types of benders could do.
Also on the whole going underground spike attacks. Not everyone is toph so they can’t see while underground so how can they throw spikes up at a target they can’t see or most likly hear either. They can’t just throw up random spikes or they’ll drain their powers quickly. Then there’s the fact that the underground trick seems to be a damned advanced technique since only a handful of char’s can pull it off and not any grunts. fire nation is just too destrucive in nature and has all the good generals and fighters.
One thing that bugged me tough is throughout history travel and communication is always the biggest means of victory so how could the water benders possibly fuck it up. There should be no excuse why they can’t dominate the waters. They must have some seriously bad generals. Hell zuko freaking infiltrated their best defended base so easily.
the southern water tribe was quickly decimated early in the war (like the air nomads) and was regularly raided to keep it in check (one such raid killed katara and sokka’s mom)
the northern water tribe decided to maintain an isolationist stance and pretty much scared the fire nation anyway until someone as ballsy as Zhao, with prime info from the spirit library, decided to chance it
I thought that was kinda retarded too. How could the FIRE benders beat the water benders in the ocean ???
The show made up the Sunny Day/Rainy Day cause to explain the retardation. That was a good two parter though, even with the dumb plot hole.
And when I think about it, the Fire Nation did Zerg rush the Water Base with tanks and ships. But still, one water bender, in a city made of water, on a the ocean, should be able to take out like 100 firebenders alone. Easily. That is like so many stat uppers for the Water Bender it’s not even funny.
I think the creators realized Water bending’s advantages were a little too broken and purposely tried to tone it down until later arcs so that Fire Benders can have their moment in the sun… so to speak.:razzy:
Yeah, I wonder this too, but I know for sure that airbenders can run really fast, waterbenders can heal (but only some of them), fire gets lightning, and I guess earthbending gets stone armor?
Also, as was already said, it seems like the water tribe has the wrong idea. They need to be out on boats hunting down the fire nation’s ships and sinking them. Water Tribe Pirates FTW.
While Fire benders do have lightning, water benders also have the ability to freeze water in mid air so there is that alternate form.
Earth benders may just have the strength as part of there powers, although with Toph you kind of see that a earth bender could have insane senses to see any enemy coming.
But Zazz is right, on the analogy, Aang especially early on used his abilities to run away from everyone.
^ I think each element relates back to the people who use it, and since the Airbenders are monks, then it is only reasonable that they would use it to avoid and run away instead of maiming and killing like the firebenders.

Haha, looks like the subcontinent is finally represented on Avatar. I too am going with the guess that the guy isn’t a bender but a kind of spiritual/Brahman dude. Maybe “Heart” is the hidden 5th element that has to be mastered before you can become an Avatar?

Hmmm…that’s actually an interesting theory. It makes sense, given the whole Spirit World thing and the Swamp episode.
Speaking of The Swamp, when “the Swami” traced the path to Ba Sing Se (I’m sure that I spelled that incorrectly), the trail reminded of something the same trail in “The Swamp” to that central tree. Unless I’m imagining things…
Does this mean that sokka’s girlfriend is dead or captured??? They ended the fight off as if she was going to die IMO… I mean they were severely overpowered by azula and her peeps, so I hope they are ok
I never really thought about what happened to Suki. I just figured they were like “This is going to be a boring fight, lets just show Appa flying for a while instead.”
But it makes sense if she was captured.
