That’s basically what my sister told me when she saw the “Admit it, you like me” scene between Korra and Mako in the trailer. She said that they couldn’t end the romantic tension that early in the series because the romantic tension is much of the reason girls like the show so much.

Maybe that whole thing with Aang dying in the avatar state caused Korra to have trouble learning Airbending. She probably has to go to the Spirit world and get advice from Aang to reconnect the Avatar spirit with Airbending. Just some thoughts…

If you die in the avatar state then that’s the end of the line of avatars. It’s already been stated that Korra is having a hard time learning air bending because it’s most opposite to her personality.

maybe because even when korra is a water bender by birth, her personality traits are very different from what you expect of a water bender
meanwhile Aang and Roku their personalities when it comes on bending, matched naturally

I noticed that inconsistency as well But maybe it’s not an inconsistency because it can still work both ways I guess. Aang was the opposite of an Earthbending personality as well as it being his opposite element. We didn’t really see enough of Avatar Roku to truly gauge his personality but I guess you could say his was the opposite of a typical waterbender personality. It can still work but when Tenzin said that to Korra in episode 2 I immediately thought that that was not what they originally said in the old series.

It is not odd at all, Aang was essentially raised as an airbender, the same applies to Roku and his respective element so they naturally had difficulties with their opposites. We don’t know how Korra was raised but we do know that Air is the element of freedom, she’s spent the majority of her life on a short leash.

Adding personalities into it just makes things a little messy since we’ve seen characters with all kinds of personality traits among benders of different types. I mean within even the Earth Benders you have people like Toph who is what I guess would be considered your standard Earth bender, but also someone line Long Feng who acts nothing like what Earth benders are supposed to.

Aang’s problem with Earth bending wasn’t really that the element was the opposite, it was more personality for him too. He kept trying to look for different ways to approach Earth bending instead of facing it head on. The problem was rooted in Aang’s airbending being more about adapting to change rather than directly opposing it which is more of what an Earth bender does. Just think about the difference between the training between airbending and earthbending. For airbending, you don’t run straight into the panels and force your way through, you adapt to the spins of the panels to avoid them without using force. Conversely, for earthbending, Toph had Aang stand directly in front of a boulder and try to stop it head on.
