Mako can lightning bend like it’s unthinkable. My iPhone just changed nuthin to unthinkable.
2ndary Traits
Water: Healing, Blood Bending, Ice Bending
Earth: Metal Bending
Fire: Lightning Bending
Air: ???
So far it seems like metal bending is a specialty while Lightning can be done by low/middle class firebenders.
Maybe Lightning bending, a dangerous form of fire bending, is better of being used and taught to lower/middle class for factory work.
Metal bending could be the same, there’s a lot of metal in the city. Idk
Also the way Bolin explained Korra’s bending before (stiff, relies on form), reminds me, the way Metal and Lightning benders were maybe it really does require less thought.
Combination Bending
Water and Earth = Mud/ (some)Plants
Fire and Air seemed odd. Air could make Fire stronger and completely negate it in some cases. There’s no telling if they expanded on this.
Fire/Earth = Magma (not sure if i remember correctly but didn’t Toph bend Magma during the day of black sun at Azula?
I really hope most of the series doesn’t take place in the city. I want to see how the swamp people and the populated Air temple from TLA turned out. Sand benders still bandits and tribes? Are dragons still on the verge of extinction? New firelord could have a dragon like the old ones.
i really like how back in the old series it was like rare for a firebender to bend lighting or a earth bendder to bend metal. now everyone can do it! yay time!!!
also amon intrigues the hell outta me. can he really bend engery like anng or is it all an act? and if so he’s ovbiously been to the spirit world then like aang has. does thhat make him a bender or do that just make him some regular smo that was lucky? think hes gonna be a great characther down the line.
i also want to know if tenzin personally know amon. he seem like he wasn’t all that suprised when korra told him he could take ppl bending away.
I think it’s kind of analogous to how the industrial revolution in the real world led to a bunch of people being able to work crafts that used to take years of research to master (IE textiles).
I think the reason people have advanced techniques is sort of like how the truly great scientists think of and develop new things, while down the line they can teach it to more people eventually. Sort of how Einstein made advances in physics and now they’re a lot of people who learned and expanded upon his developments. Also funny thing was back then, many scientists and mathematicians were so esoteric, they kept many secrets to themselves and just passed it down to certain pupils. Since their is a more exchange of ideas and they were in a sort industrial revolution, I could see more open learning and teachings being passed around.
I just realized something. Amon said the “Spirits” chose him.
Dispite the modern setting, the spirit world DOES exist, but one thing gets me. It’s always been said the Avatar was the bridge between both the spirit and the real world. How was Amon able to learn the Spirit bending technique Aang learned?
My theory is somehow that turtle island (or is a spirit which explains how it lived so long) sought out Amon after the event where he lost his parents.
Amon was probably torn apart like Aang was when he couldn’t bring himself to end Ozai’s life. Maybe he was chosen.
I actually saw a picture that showed that Amon does not use the same technique as Aang and the turtle. He only touches the forehead, Aang touches the forehead and chest. It could be an entirely different technique from an entirely different source.
Isnt Lightning caused when a firebender moves like a water bender? I think that’s how Iroh explained it. The harder part is redirecting lightning.
Perhaps he was able to journey into the spirit world like Iroh did after his son was killed. Iroh had knowledge never else had thanks to that. My personal theory is that Koh, the face stealer is the one who gave Amon his power. He’s the only spirit we know of that has a grudge against the Avatar. Could also explain why Amon wears a mask. He has no face

Amon is really interesting. One thing I don’t understand is now that all of the benders are living together they form gangs and pick on people who can’t bend?
Why not? Simple hood economics. You gonna extort the stickup kids or the chinese food owners?
Also, what if Koh is involved with amon? Like he gave him his mask o_O
Not all benders, just the ones that were already dicks. These are the guys that would have been the Earth Kingdom militia who abused their authority over the Earth citizenry. Forming gangs is just the hip and trendy method for being an asshole because it’s 20’s New York.
It would be wild as hell if the same firebender that killed Amon’s father is the same one that killed Mako and Bolin’s folks.
And due to the law of conservation of narrative it is a distinct possibility.
Hi, sav. Long time no see.
I’d like to praise the show more, but a lot of people already did so and it’s well deserved. Not much of a theorist about future plotlines either, but I’m still very interested in seeing how it all pans out.
Korra is a much cooler protagonist than Aang and also hot as fuck.
Just wanted to throw that out there.
BITCH DON’T NEED BENDING SHE CAN JUST PICK DUDES UP AND THROW THEM
Nah, lightning is caused when u split positive and negative elements or some shit like that, it was lightning redirection that iroh learnt from imitating water benders.
Loving this show. No gripes at all. Like Aria, not much for theory/anticipation of plot lines but I enjoy reading all of this thread.
Looking forward to flashbacks of Old man Aang raising his kids in a future episode.
Good lord… I forgot all about the face stealer.
