Very nice piece. It’s nice and dark and captures the feeling and essence of Darkstalkers very well, imho. I love that Aulbath is a solid shadowy color, instead of his normal green. I hate that color. xP The red eye is a nice touch too.

This, to me is the most eye-catching of the bunch. The aura around Raptor just seems to draw you into him. I also love the use of the blue and red silhouettes behind him. The opposite colors clash together and look all the more interesting.

why do you have to knock on the AV’s man? i know you’re giving your honest opinion but you as an AV maker should know ppl put a lot of time into making one. saying majority of these sucks? how are we to grow when you discourage ppl to focking make AV’s. i haven’t said anything from your negativity in av battle 2 and 3… but that’s going overboard.

30 entries and probably some of the makers are newbies including myself. just be more thoughtful when u post some stupid shit like that.

The thing is, if we praise you too much, then you stagnate. You think you’re great or actually good. I agree with Chibi and it should be pretty apparent in the what I mentioned in my comments about the avs. I mean look at the avatar rating thread. It’s a joke really. Half the shit I post up there shouldn’t be even a 10/10. It’s about as useful as the Premium Circle Jerk thread where we just rep each other for doing nothing. Personally I think that the consideration of what should be good and what shouldn’t should be revamped in that particular thread.

I give my share of praise, but I also give my share of citicisms of what is bad. That’s where the progress should be made. Am I the right person to suggest it? Who knows, it’s just my opinion I can be wrong as with all opinions. But even if Chibi overly harsh MC is right. We aren’t going to instantly say these novice taggers are beasting when they are just learning the basics. But it shouldn’t be discouraging, it should be a motivator to do better. If we play with kid gloves all the time, it’s like track and field in elementary, 4th-8th place ribbons. The olympics don’t hand out that type of Mickey Mouse shit.

i’m not saying praise av’s when you know they aren’t good. Like you said, chibi was overly harsh.

if you think it helps to say all these av’s suck or whatever without giving an constructive criticism, then i say you’re completely wrong.

you give a thorough explanation why it didn’t work, what could’ve done better etc. with each avatar. chibi, on the other hand, just bashes av’s without really commenting but being as degrading as possible. i’m sorry if i’m the only who thinks this way, but honestly his negative attitude needs to go.

No he doesn’t. Aside from that like, one post, Chibi tends to give honest [and good] criticism. He’s not the type of person to post something mean for the sake of being mean.

Yeah, I definately agree w/ Master Chibi + OrangeCat, there’s been way too much positivity in these recent battles. Seriously, if we all just say everything is great there’s really no point to having a battle or discussing them at all. If someone wants to say an av sucks (as long as it’s for legitimate reasons/not just flaming,) that’s fine with me, we can take it. Just because it’s “for fun” doesn’t mean we should censor criticism – if someone gets discouraged enought to quit from a few harsh comments then they probably weren’t that into it to begin with.

For me, it’s certainly always fun to get a positive reaction to an av or something else I’ve made. However, I find it’s when people have negative or, at least, less than :wow:+:clap:-type comments that I actually benefit the most. First of all, this helps me to rethink and re-evaluate my work (particularly if they mentioned specific points.) Also, and perhaps of greatest value, a negative reaction (while dissapointing) encourages me to try harder and to continue improving much more so than if everyone just really loved what I had made.

It also helps keep you humble and prevents you from getting too self-confident and thus not improving. Finally, if there aren’t any negative points of view expressed, it really diminishes the value of a genuine compliment.

For example, I was pretty happy with the av I entered here (especially considering I made it relatively quickly for me and while extra sleepy) and, to be honest, I still think it’s quite good compared to most of them + I’m a little surprised it was ignored by all the judges. However, the fact that it wasn’t too warmly received has caused me too look at it again more critically and to think about new ways to approach things next time. It’s left me feeling enthusiastic and excited about entering the next battle and, hopefully, proving myself more successfully.

You couldn’t be farther from the truth.

I’m only negative towards the author when it’s clear that they’re just being a complete jackass about it (ie PerfectCell, PsychoClown, etc). Go pull out anything I mentioned in the avatars I voted on that in anyway degrades the author for what they did. I would have happily gave constructive criticsm on all the avatars, but I simply chose not to. Once the votes have been tallied in full then the entire lot of us can sit down and discuss them.

Speaking of which, you’re proof of what Blodia was talking about, content over presentation, your still avatar in the last contest is proof of that. So relax.
