The thing is that the dark bg makes a valid point…that this av will not look good on other skins…On the other hand, most people view srk in default, so it would look good to most.
Honestly, I don’t know why the artist didn’t just make it transparent…it’s in gif format, afterall.
You can keep it up if you want. I don’t mind. Just make sure to thank the artist once the comp is over…or have the artist thank you…or have my babies…or whatever.

“Marilyn Lilith Monroe”
The simple look of this one is amazing. I mean, you can’t really go wrong with greyscale and a splash of color. I picked this one as #1 because i felt that it could stand the test of time, an av that you can stare at for a long time and not get tired of it. Especially seeing as though there are so many other great still entrees, it had come down to which av I wouldn’t get tired of the fastest. It would be even cooler on the boards if the person that was wearing it, typed in yellow text, and this avatar would look even better on the Xbox live skin over the default skin by a long shot.

“Etch-a-sketch B.B. Hood”
Fucking super. This one was beautifully made, but there was some glaring things that i didn’t agree with, that allowed Lilith Monroe to top it. For one, it’s etch a sketch, and the Bulleta doesn’t look like it was made in an etch a sketch at all. Also, the text saying B.B.Hood is in RED, when did etch a sketch have assorted colors? Aaaand finally how B.B.Hood text is not attached to where Bulleta is drawn out. Maybe i’m an etch a sketch scrub, but i always thought that everything just flat out connected. Otherwise, it easily wipes out the majority of the other static avatars with ease.

“Weekly World News”
Nice play on the old magazine avatar trend. This one BARELY made 3rd however, because Growling Gallon nearly became my 3rd pick(but one thing kept that one down).
With this one the text was excellent(can’t go wrong with Impact), and the style is very convincing to the real weekly world news covers.
Runner Up:
“Growling Gallon”
The one thing that kept this one out of the 3rd spot was that, if Talbain was a shade of purple in the same hue as the background, it would been there. Plus the yellowish-orange belt wouldve made it even better because of that. IMO the blue was a bit out of place on Talbain.
I’ll judge the animated entrees in a bit.
seems that SRK’s “2005: Season Autumn” line have all focused on content (refering to animated) rather than form of which i was hoping to see more of. It would be nice to have a balance next battle.

I like how Slide made the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd look like Gold Silver and Bronze.

Style and substance are unbalanced. Not enough style; too much focus on substance, to be blunt. Too much focus on creative content, not enough on creative presentation.
We’re all doing for this fun, if this was held at TM it’d be an entirely different ballpark, most folks here make ‘avatars’ as a hobby to a bigger hobby, playing fighting games, hence the points you mentioned being what they are.

I have to agree. There has to be something that bring everything together into cohesion, not just “exist”. That’s why there are certain ideas I find funny, but I didn’t say “wow…that came together nicely.”.

“A Darkstalkers Lesson”
I like this one alot. Loved the blue stroke around the bubbles. what would make this one even better was if the characters were desaturated a bit or give the colors a more dry appearance similar to the background. but at the same time, the way it is now reminds me a bit of how yoshi’s island looks. so it’s cool. nothing else though, just crafted very well. it’s not funny or anything, but that’s ok cause a joke can get old too.
2nd:
“Darkness Illusion”
Wouldve easily taken first place, but i just liked the way Darkstalkers Lesson was made, over this one. Nothing else i can really say about this, except that the animation was very smooth and connected. Was this a GIF already? or was this animated seperately?
3rd:
“Karin Aensland”
the potential with this one alone has it sitting in the 3rd spot. now, if there was more effort put into this, it would be #1 easily. first, Karin’s sprite color would be much better in a dark purple and black like Morrigan. second, her hair should be more green. third, she should be in an animation set up that makes her feel more like morrigan, than just karin setting there with wings on her head.
Final thoughts and comments as a judge:
**I’ve deliberately excluded judgement on my own avatar entrees. quiche, i did this because even if i felt that any entry of mine could be in the top 3 even with as high of objectivity as i could muster… i felt that i couldn’t judge my own work because it’s still biased no matter what, because… they are my own avatars.
I gotta say, that having 8 judges is way too many, and having judges enter in the contest, is completely jacked up and biased as shit. however, i chose to remain a judge in your contest because of your PMs asking me to, and how you were saying that this is a trial and error period for you. the benefit of doubt is and was given, but this shit is really hard to judge when your OWN entrees are in. it’s really fucking stupid and unfair to ANYONE that has entrees and aren’t a judge themselves.
word to the wise, judges should never be able to enter. make that change for next challenge, if there is one.**
TM has turned into a landfill of wannabe’s and nonames who suffer from what our Bloody Buddy here is rightfully complaining about, with the regulars not really pushing to change matters otherwise.
I know that, and personally I think the majority of these avatars suck (yeah you heard me), but quiche is making good progress here so all for the better I say.
