How’ll I’ll be voting is by listing off the runner ups in order of best to worst, then voicing my opinion for the top three near the end.

I would have put this up higher had it not for one thing, the actual BG colour being slightly (and I mean ever so slightly) off colour with the default skin. I’m usually not a stickler for such things, but it does through it off a bit…I actually tried it on in order to give a better judgement rather than judge it as is on the darker skin BG, but still it’s a tad off. Other than that, it’s done very well if only for concept. What really got it kicked off of 3rd place is that when you look at it…it does look awfully plain. Even when I was wearing it, it doesn’t exactly stand out or wow me. Another problem is that you can’t quite make out clearly the picture in the honey combs.
At one point I had though the upper right cone was another face of a mouth and a nose, but it was the attenae. That created a bit of confusion as to what the theme was to the picture. Such as was it supposed to be random snippets of Q-Bee or was it supposed to be a complete picture of Q-Bee in the combs? Other than that, it’s very well done

All of you are probably wondering why this one is above so many others. Well what put this above the rest is focus. There was a definately point of focus with this av. It’s kinda peculiar because in some ways this av kinda goes against what I find aethestically balancedthere’s something off balance about it, yet that’s part of it’s appeal.
I find it very cool that the tagger had made the av look like a catalogue item and I think that adds to it’s off-balance beauty, it looks like a snippet out of a catalogue. What brought it down was mainly the flare at bottom center which seems to be there to show the shine of the collar, but it really isn’t centered on a specific metal part nor does it look natural. I could understand though, it might have obscured Felecia’s face, but still it doesn’t look that great placed right there.

Simple and effective. Nice homage although I think the BG could have been a bit more street or darker just like the original. It has great focus but sadly the BG did prevent it from being better due to the fact it throws off the balance. The potted plants is the main culprit, had there been something less domineering like a bench or even nothing at all, it might have been better.

Very nice. The BG is great, but because it wasn’t very suitable for the character in the av, it just seems a bit off. Had it been Dimitri, Gallon, hell even Bulleta, it would have made sense, but Rikuo and violent blood like BGs don’t seem to mix well. It’s better than most because of the transparaency that essentially creates a balance of focus to Rikuo as well. But sadly that is the weakness of it…why is the transparency there? It doesn’t help considering there are 4 skins to choose from and it might cause a colour balance problem with different BGs.

Done very nicely. Like the sprite and colours, kinda reminds me of the “Behind the Music” colour scheme. But it doesn’t come together all that well. Perhaps had the red picture on the left actually extended all the way down to bring a bit more balance then yes. The pictures on the right are a bit unrecognizable, it wasn’t after a few moments that I realized it was bats on the upper right. And even though the colour fits well, perhaps a better choice would be a scheme that compliments the character, not just go well together as a BG. Otherwise pretty good.

Very nice with the flare, but thats all it seems like. The BG although elabroate is very plain. The strip of cells to the right just seem out of place and the BG picture of Jedah doesn’t contribute too well to the overall picture. And when you look at it all, thre does seem to be a lack of a direction or focus.
[*]“MMM…Pussy!”
Cute, but once again lack of focus. There’s a bit of confusion what with the actual boxes containing Felecia and Gallon. I mean is the eye a foreground picture over them? Or are they supposed to be together with the eye on the same plain? There’s just a bit of confusion on how the sprites are supposed to look. The eye could have been centered more and perhaps more defination of the space enclosing the sprites to show if they are part of the same plain or some sort of BG.
[*]“Talbain”
Nice BG and awesome font. But Gallon basically merges into the BG looking like a bit frozen popsicle. I don’t quite like that curve of the BG that’s going through Gallon’s midsection; disrupting the flow of the av, and it just doesn’t show anything really. It’s quite plain.
[*]“Pink-Stalkers”
Nice idea, but the fonts are everywhere. It’s kinda hard to read and the bedroom doesn’t exactly compliment the overall pink scheme. I should say that at least the fonts had some notion of style, but because it’s all over the place it really does take away from it.
[*]“Growling Gallon”
The BG is nice, compliments Gallon’s colour scheme very well. Bu tlike the rest, there is a definate lack of focus. The 4 dark spots seem a bit constructed but it’s good nevertheless because it looks random enough. But basically it’s a picture of Gallon on a BG, nothing especially great, but nice nevertheless.
[*]“Etch-a-sketch B.B. Hood”
Neat idea, pehraps even better for animation, but it just didn’t wow me that much. Nice novelty idea, the font is placed very well as well with the Bulleta image. Love the etch a sketch toy. But one thing that kinda throws it off is that it doesn’t really look all that etched a sketched. No offense if someone actually did this, but it looked a bit too good.

Nothing special. Fairly plain really. Font could use some work as well with the placement of the DS symbol. Anakaris text could have been placed elsewhere so it doesn’t run so closely with the line of the picture’s beard.

Victor with an aura. Nice way of actually making it fit to his/her form, but it doesn’t look all that hot.

Hilarious really and very cute. But nothing really that special unless you consider it special ed.

It’s really just the perfect av. Very good balance, the colours are fabulous. Everything fits and it just makes me wonder if this was actually a scene that occured in the DS series becuase it looks soo good. I love the fact that the actual sprite spills out into the borders, but in a clean way. I’m just amazed overall at the production over this.

Original and very accurate to what it parodies. Why didn’t it get 1st? There were just some thinsg that didn’t come together. It did look a tad be constructed, had the font been cut off for “China Rejoices” to give it more of a fraction of a magazine feel. But everything else is clean, very clear to see aside from the text at the top. But another weakspot is the composition although great, wasn’t as perfect as the 1st place one.
[*]“Prince Of Hell”
Very well put together. The colours are great, very apt for the character and the small Dimitri symbol on the end of the font is a very nice touch. The font is excellent, very suitable and the BG compliments the sprite in such a way, you’d think it was actually part of the sprite. The use of space is very good, although what kinda threw it off was the placement of the name.
It perhaps could have been moved in to the left a bit more, but then again it would have thrown off the entire thing, having to redo the font. It was hard because the Mini-Dimitri was was far to the right it kinda threw the thing off a bit. The other problem is the shadow of Dimitri is a bit drastic, like one half covered in shadow then the other half not, where it should have been a tad more gradual.

Very nice BG, very nice effects added to Dimitri, but the sprite choice is a bit iffy. I don’t quite like the pose that much. Also the analysis part seems a tad long, as well with the text moving a tad slow. I like the effort put into the colour which is VERY good. Possibly one of the best colour schemes in the entire contest.

I like this because of allt he work that wend into it as well with a lot of the colour scheme. It fits very well, and in fact I considered this for 3rd place after my change of heart. However there is something severely lacking from this. I feel that the tagger could have put a bit more effort into bringing together. The colous are great, but small things such as actually changing Karin’s hair a bit more to green, perhaps even giving her a palette change to fit the colour scheme or compliment it or even reworking the surrounding colour scheme to fit Karin’s colour. It’s good but not great.
[*]“Chase the Chuck-Wagon”
Very cute, and I’ve never played the game, but I remember Tiger games in general. It’s a very neat animation and by concept alone is great and genius.
[*]“Air Zabel”
Very good, love the shock of the jam, could have been a bit smoother. But considering the detail of the BG, it probably needs so few frames. Makes sense though. Love it really, but it goes by a bit too quickly to really see the jump.
[*]“Demitri”
Very plain as a animation. I mean all it shows is Bat-Form-Dimitri floating by. It could have been smoother but probably faced the same reasons as above. I had hoped the pause between the time where the bat is actually off screen was longer, it would have flowed better, but it’s just continuous where it shouldn’t have been. But had this been entered in as a still av, I’d put it in the top 3.
The balance and focus and flow is beautiful as a still av, but sadly it was entered into the animation category.
[*]“Raptor Chainsaw”
Very nice, but a bit plain consideirng the pixelation of the actual saw happening. I don’t know what else to say or suggest because it looks good, but there’s nothing really you would work with too much with it any further without making it poor. Perhaps a change in BG or actually making it colour?
[*]“Spinnin’ Lilith”
It’s simple and very nice. Although a bit plain it does have a good flow to it all. The font is a bit boring but it works and the colour scheme is nigh perfect but could use a bit work to compliemnt Lilith’s green hair.
[*]“Strip Poker”
Funny, but once again the lack of BG for the sacrafice for animation comes into play. Sadly the animation quality is poor. Anakaris slapping down the cards could have been faster. Lilith getting naked could have probably transformed all the way instead of that pause during the white energy phase. It’s funny, but not that great.
[*]“Digital Morrigan”
Very plain, but constructed well. Love the balance which is very simple. The digital part could have been done better…even animated better if there were like stats, or scrolling programs or even scans done upon the picture. But it really lacked any sort of real greatness.
[*]“April Fools!”
Funny but grainy. Text is hard to read sometime and it could have been pushed a bit more. But I found the rolling on the ground very funny.
[*]“Come Hoes”
Come hoes flashes on too shortly, the animation is jerky. BG is nice but it doesn’t work too well with the entire thing. Could have been a DS BG that might have worked much better but the idea is good, even if a tad simplistic.
[*]“Emo Public Service”
It’s funny but there’s just too much text to get to the punchline. The idea of having picture accompanying the text is very good and should have gone further with that, to show examples like actually getting the knife. It doesn’t help either that the text is off center sometimes.
[*]“Sorry About This Avatar”
I think that there should be a spelling change to the “fuckin sucks” to something more appropriate. Pretty terrible although the animation is pretty good when the poo flows down to the bottom. The text at the end goes by too fast.

[*]“A Darkstalkers Lesson”
Funny, although there is a severe lack of Bulleta in her usual “vicious” mood. THe use of Talbain sprites are fabulous and the BG fits the entire theme of humour, DS and the weirdness of it all. It runs a tad fast, and the final lesson statement passes by a bit quickly, but it’s very good. I love the basket with knife at the end…it looks like a Chapter picture that you see quite often in books or novels.
[*]“Morrigan’s Eyes”
Very nice, and you could see a lot of time went into it. It’s avs like these tha tmakes me wonder if this was actually made by Capcom or not. I would say that it is a bit plain, but the production value in the av is very high and very good.
[*]“Darkness Illusion”
At first I was about to put this at 4th place because it looks a bit too plain. But it’s simplicity basically grew on me and it works very well. I was tempted to pick something else for the sake of picking something else other than this, but it has a very nice quality to it. It almost looks too simple, and that’s why it got 3rd or it’s almost 4th. The colour is very appropriate as mentioned previously, and works on a few levels.[/list]

I should make it quite clear on why I’m wearing the Q-Bee av right now. Because it’s an av that should be worn with the default SRK skin colour as the BG, I thought it a bit unfair that it should be judged on the dark BG of the post area. Don’t mean any offense for just wearing the av without the artist’s permission, but I just wanted to judge it a bit more fairly.
However I will leave it up to quiche to determine whether or not I should leave it in my av space for the other judges to determine it’s worth or should I just take it off?
